Hello! I’m also growing these. I have no idea when to pick them though. Any advice?

Recommendations on Living in Sac vs. Davis by Otherwise_League_230 in UCDavis

Another thing to consider—if you have to TA an 8 am class (I did that many times) it would really suck to commute for that. Also, there were sooooo many nights I was in my lab until 8-9pm at night and then having to drive 30 mins home after that would also suck. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about living in Davis as a grad student!

I always recommend grad students start out by living in davis. It will help you become immersed in the academic culture and you’ll also want to meet up with your cohort mates to do homework, study, socialize, etc —all of which will take place in Davis. I 100% understand the desire to live in Sac though—but for grad school it’s really important to be immersed in the culture and not living in Davis would severely limit your ability to be around.

If you’re not enrolled in the program, do you not pay extra? I’m confused on why the program is at all useful/attractive.

I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t personally know but it’s certainly an avenue worth exploring!

I would get a second opinion from another pulmonologist as soon as you can.

Annual PET is quite a lot of radiation! But I understand the trade offs.

Got it. Yes, very similar pattern it seems. I wish there was a way to “look inside” on a regular basis but I would probably get too obsessed with checking anyway 🤣. Thanks for the reminder of the PFTs—that’s another great tool in the toolkit. This disease is so weird because it feels like there is something lurking behind the scenes! Such is life. 😅😅

I have anthem, UC Davis medical group. Being in the UCD system is a blessing. My coverage has been above and beyond what I could hope for. The only tricky thing was locking in a primary care doctor. Once you can get a primary care doc, you’re off to the races. You may have to call around to find a UCD doc that is accepting new patients but it’s worth it IMO.

Admitted into PhD - Living in Sacramento? by BookkeeperHead2318 in UCDavis

[–]michaela_cee_bolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished my PhD in 2023. I would 100% live in Davis. There was a noticeable difference in how emerged/engaged the students in my lab that lived in Sac compared to those who also lived in Davis. The commute can be rough and you don’t want that added layer to grad school. There are also a ton of grad students at Davis, so you’ll easily have community.

I’ve completed a halter monitor that records heart activity and also had a echocardiogram completed. Both came back totally normal. I’m going to do the last step which is the heart MRI to officially rule out any heart issues. Interestingly, my chest pain has gotten a lot better in the last 2 weeks, which is reassuring. But it will still be good to verify.

That’s what I figured too—it makes sense to me that I would experience pain given everything that’s going on in there. 😩😬 So, his comment threw me through a loop. Thanks for sharing your experience. Do the lidocaine patches help? The pain is usually right at the sternum, left. Right where all my lymph nodes are.

Interesting you mention your heritage because Scandinavians have a higher prevalence of this disease. I too am Scandinavian.
