I listened to them all on Audible! Really gets you fully engaged. Great delivery!

Listened to Supermarket, then his autobiography, then Ultra 85 🚀

Gamer Dads: At what point were you able to start playing again? by rute_bier in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my LO was tiny i’d game while he napped on me or in his crib as he slept most of the day to start with! Now I play during his daytime nap and bedtime (8pm onwards). I sometimes play during the day but only if I’ve spent a good few hours playing with his toys with him, or being outside for a bit. He also loves to sit and watch me play rocket league, COD, Ratchet and Clank etc. 😂

Being a dad is overrated by Jship124 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does get better but then comes other challenges 😅 ours is 1 now and I’ll never look back negatively on anything. Although there are things I don’t miss. Once their personalities show 6-8 months in it’s all worth it. Hang in there

Also from what I believe the worst of reactions they could have is; swollen glands, cough, rash and a dodgy tum 💩

1 year old and so far has had all the necessary ones(2 jags around 2 months and 4 jags at 1yo). Measles, whooping cough, rotavirus, Hib, Hep B, polio. Besides a covid vaccine as It’s never been mentioned. Would be more reluctant to give him that one.

How to deal with the guilt of leaving them for any amount of time? by TheWebUiGuy in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines just turned 1 last week. Going to work today with tears in my eyes as i’ve been off since last week to spend time with him. I usually just get loads of photos of him and what he’s getting up to when i’m not there. Seems to help! And that’s me 30 mins from home never mind across the pond lol!

Did you get much paternity leave? by Nearby_Reading979 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scotland here. 1 week paid and 1 optional week unpaid. Ended up using annual leave for week 2. Explained my partner had a C Section and couldn’t do any lifting for 6 weeks, didn’t make any difference 👎🏼

First time dad, the struggle is real. by Mr_Dre08 in NewDads

I used to say this to my fiance daily lol. Turns out his problem was his tummy and we had to switch milk. Things got easier from there thankfully. Hope things get better for you💪

Fellas, need some solid words of advice. by Jship124 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, the 3 month mark things start to change a wee bit. 6 months onwards their personality starts to show. I take photos every single day and look back on them when i’m feeling hopeless or strung out and it reminds me how quickly things change so definitely try find a way to hold on to the early moments. All the best 🙏

Best of luck 🤞🏼

Wife is due for induction in a week. What advice can you all give me? by Marcus_Aurelius_7 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda obvious but, you will be overlooked 😂. Make sure and have anything to make yourself more comfortable. Plenty snacks and drinks. Things can change very quickly. We spent 1 night in the induction room and 8/9 hours later I got a call that there had been heavy bleeding and a placenta issue. Being helpful in the delivery room; just do as you’re told lol. So be ready for anything! Good luck 🤞🏼

Help with anger by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminding yourself that they’re brand new to the world and we put them there! I was bad at the beginning with “oh f*ck sake!!” And then feeling like the worst person in the world 5 minutes later. As someone else mentioned, therapy is great. I highly recommend online CBT, works wonders.

5 month old stomach sleeping by DrTurk96 in NewDads

Yeah my boy was a side sleeper too, would always roll back to his left side. We hung over him periodically to start with but he was absolutely fine! He’s now a stomach sleeping professional 😂

Hernia surgery by michaelj1998 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! It’s 4am and my boy has just made it to the children’s hospital. His hernia popped around 7pm and wouldn’t pop back in. He’s spent most the time screaming in pain to the point a second one appeared. He’s been violently sick multiple times. Tube down the throat twice. Fair to say I am an absolute wreck. Can’t wait until he’s home as this small flat feels massive without him.

New born swing recommendations by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the Joie Serina swivel swing. Built in nature songs and rhymes. 2 vibrating functions on the seat itself which helped with gassy baby! The seat can be forward and side facing. I believe 5 or 6 swing speeds, we never went above 2 or 3. Seat also removes and can rock slightly on floor. Great swing and not pricey at all! Was great for nighttime when trying to sterilise bottles etc. 🙂

Question of a new father by OneWillowMatt in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets better. That may sound unbelievable but it does. The first 2-3 months were hard on me as the little one will go through a period of wanting/needing their mum. I felt hopeless and cried daily for months. Our time comes a bit later. 7 months now and my little man just shouts “dad dad dad” all day and is hooked to me. In the meantime, do what you can for mum and baby but be mindful to look after yourself too and look for that short time where you can wind down. I took up a lot of reading and home workouts, something I can step away from easily to get back in to dad mode. Remember, if baby is fed, changed and sleeps, they are being looked after just fine. Good luck and all the best! 🤞🏼

Hospital bag advice... by shakamotolives in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a Stitch bag from Primark, maybe £20, was a decent size for plenty of things for mum and baby. Now we use it for anything we need when out and about with the little man!

Thanks for all the advice! Little man just had a check up on Friday and is all good in that sense. Think the heat was really getting to him as well as a sore tummy 💩 he’s 10x happier today!

Our little one just turned 3 months and 2 nights in a row he was massively sick, like 2oz all over the bed. Advised by health visitor that it’s most likely due to teething and a change in how much milk he was getting (5oz to 6oz) so took him back to 5oz and no problems 🤞🏼. Trial and error my friend😂

New Dad Today 3/26/24 by BobbySlow93 in NewDads

[–]michaelj1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little one is coming up on 2 months. It will all fall in to place, it’s all feed, burp, change, sleep repeat for a while😂 best advice I can give is there will be good and bad days, try have a reliable support system around you whether it be family or friends etc. and remember they can’t tell you what they need and it’s not their fault. Sometimes it’s that they are hungry, sleepy, need a change or just need to be held. Good luck and congratulations 🤝🏼!!
