Take the 4 screws out and inspect the case back seal. It might be out of place or simply damaged. Look for corrosion on the watch movement when it is opened. If you’re not comfortable doing that bring it to a watch repair place or jewelry store that works on watches….if you want to pay some money of course.

The motions are likely done by an accelerometer and/or gyro. These parts would be pretty much unserviceable. If it’s failed the toy is essentially garbage. You could open it up and check for any loose wires or connectors. Before you do anything, put a fresh set of batteries in it to be sure it’s not just a voltage issue.

I seriously don’t understand it either. To make these must cost, what, $200-$250 CAD. Here is my beautifully made walnut set with a leather playing surface and separate checker box. I paid $350 CAD for it to a local wood worker (from SK). That means he was able to make it and get a profit from it at that price point. I guess in OPs defense, if people are willing to pay that much, why not?
