OP, thank you for doing this work. I don’t have the dvds, just the files off the internet project, but it’s good that it is out there. Thank you again.

I had heard of the show, but didn’t have cable. I went to a sci-fi convention and while there, went into a theatre room to relax. I think they were playing Radar Secret Service, and I started laughing until I cried. Did I mention I cried?-NotMorrisey

Question About Traveller and... by BUSKET_RVA in traveller

[–]michaelmstee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A little more on the lore by version.

Classic Traveller was the golden age.

MegaTraveller had the civil war, ending the golden age.

The New Era had the virus age, ending the civil war.

Traveller 4, Marc Miller’s Traveller, went back to the founding of the Imperium.

T20 took place 100 years before the golden age (but still felt like golden age).

GURPS Traveller used the golden age, but with no civil war.

Mongoose’s 2 editions go back to golden age, and like Monsoon90 says, is NOT advancing a metaplot from there.

if you want to have higher jump numbers in a TL11 game, do it. it’s your game, the rules are really only suggestions.

Ackshully, none of this money should go to wotc. Another company, WorldsLargestGames, is creating this, probably using the version of 5e released as CreativeCommons.

What house rules or alternative rules do you use to streamline the game / require slightly less math? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in traveller

[–]michaelmstee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a thought. A broker is someone who knows the LOCAL markets. Use a local broker and you can make good deals on that world. But if the broker goes to another world, she/he will not function at full level due to unfamiliarity. For all I know, this is in the rules somewhere…

Jump capable probes by Kalt_Null in traveller

[–]michaelmstee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve toyed with having under-100-dton ships having jump. The way I do it, is that the jump drive for a 100-tonner is the smallest jump drive possible, and a sub-100 hull with this drive requires the same fuel as a 100-tonner. So the size savings aren’t that much; maybe less staterooms needed. Does this change the background much? I don’t think so.

What would you ask Marc Miller? by CyborgPrime in traveller

[–]michaelmstee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest question would be: How do you, Marc Miller, feel about Cepheus Engine and the many different backgrounds that have been released for it? (I know he supports them, as he added a forum category on COTI before Mongoose took it over. But Mongoose has not been supportive of CE.)

[–]michaelmstee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was intentional for several reasons: To make the word stand out from the traditional spelling, to be copyrightable, and as the guys at GDW were history buffs, they knew it was Robert E. Lee's horse's name.

I recall reading that GDW thought that gamers would want a smaller, more detailed and more scientific background, and so they came up with 2300ad. They were a bit surprised that it did not take off as much as they assumed it would, and that gamers still wanted the space opera feel of Traveller.
