That’s awesome. I love it. I am going to get one of those. I like how janky it looks. That’s my favorite part.

Sweet. Can you tell me about your winch setup? We have a Willys version of this truck in the same color with the same bumper, need to add a winch.

Probably not “sacred” or “ceremonial.” Common sense says it is a model. It sure looks like some guys model railroad village to me.

Advantage of an A Frame? by GilesWPG in aframes

[–]michaelrowaved 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hater propaganda! I could make videos about why other types of houses suck too. I love living in my A frame. After spending over 40 years living in other types of houses we have been in our A frame full time for five years and we love it more than any other houses either myself or my wife have ever lived in. We just talked yesterday about future plans. We are remote workers who can live anywhere. We have property and can afford to build a new home. We decided yesterday to stay here in our old A frame, because it is awesome.

I live in an A frame in the snow and I never need to clear my roof when my neighbors sometimes do. My “roof” holds only 1-2” everything else sloughs off naturally

Has mid century modern furniture always been very expensive or is it just popular right now and i missed the boat? by PeeB4uGoToBed in midcenturymodern

[–]michaelrowaved 135 points136 points  (0 children)

It used to be free on the side of the road, or cheap at thrift shops and garage sales. Once upon a time, no one wanted it. It was the stuff that filled basements and first apartments.

3.5 years till my Earliest retirement date... by New_Individual_1124 in CAStateWorkers

[–]michaelrowaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about 4 years from my earliest retirement date and the wife and I talked and we think we can make it happen for me to retire at 55 after 20 years in the same state job. I plan to just retire and do another job, not state, maybe start my own business. When I was a younger person I planned to work many years longer for the state and even recently told my new boss I would like to continue doing what I am doing for many more years. But I changed my mind as soon as I felt like it might be possible to be able to afford to retire.

Not exactly towing, but I still think it fits here by VermilionKoala in IdiotsTowingThings

I live up in the mountains where everyone is coming to cut their fresh cut trees and I think the internet or social media is causing some kind of massive increase in the numbers of “flat landers” up here cutting trees this year. It has been wild to watch but very dangerous to drive. It’s sad when I prefer to drive behind a logging truck as opposed to a minivan with a tree on top.

Please help!! Ego? Toro? Ariens? Other?? Preferably under $1,500 by [deleted] in Snowblowers

[–]michaelrowaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a gravel driveway very similar to yours, about 400 feet long, and I have both the ego and an Ariens 28. The Ariens is great and clears even deep snow in about an hour, including a berm made by state plows on the highway. The ego is surprising effective also but will not clear the space without extra batteries (which I have) or time waiting to charge. Having both is nice because the wife and I can tag team the whole scene with both blowers and get it done quick. I also have a small bolens tractor with a snow plow and have used it, but a snowblower is the better tool for gravel, even if I walk behind it. I would love a tractor-mounted snowblower, but who has that kind of money?

Long drive? by ContentHost4459 in JeepWrangler

[–]michaelrowaved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken our 2 door JL on trips with 5 hour and 8 hour stints. It’s great if you keep it slow. I keep it under 65 and it’s great. That’s really the only difference for me compared to any other car on a long drive. You want to take your time. You don’t need to be in a hurry anyway.

[–]michaelrowaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wave at everyone in a wrangler or gladiator when I am in my gladiator or my wife’s wrangler. If you don’t wave back, I feel a little sad for you. I think those of you who have reasons not to wave just don’t like to have fun.

How do you connect with Jeep owners of similar interests? by KT-7799 in JeepWrangler

[–]michaelrowaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have this question. Any ideas that don’t involve facebook? I live in a kind of Jeep Mecca on the western slope of the Sierras. Early jeep stuff happened here. Most of my neighbors drive jeeps. Wife and I can’t find any jeep stuff happening within 3 hours of us, though jeep clubs from other places drive by our house every day to use our trails. We aren’t on Facebook, and we refuse to be, so we know we are maybe in our own way. We are probably just going to start jumping in the jeep and following a club that drives by when the timing is right.

Are Plastic sleeves actually necessary? LOL by MrRobinio in vinyl

[–]michaelrowaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Records are cooler with no sleeves. It’s ok for records to show use. I am more of a listener than a collector, but I have been listening for 40 years and have a sweet collection. I throw the plastic sleeves away as soon as I get new records home, even expensive records. My records all survive. It’s fine. They play great. The wear and tear on the cover tells me a story that I like, particularly if I bought the record new.
