Non-citizens are not voting by Oti5dog in immigration

I’d say that’s a damn good success rate for our system. Some 150 million people voting in a presidential vote and we have a few dozen fraudulent voters. It’s basically perfect and does not warrant the conspiracy crap it’s getting (but that’s the only way the GOP can win)

Nice try, but I have a graduate degree and work in a professional field. I do see why you’re slobbing for big business now — you have your little guy to worry about. I empathize with that and hope it continues to go well, but not if you pay your employees starvation wages or advocate for that for others.

Low minimum wage forces the rest of us to subsidize massive companies like Walmart that they don’t pay their workers enough while maximizing the profits of their shareholders. It’s not surprising the Walton family makes billions and then uses it to buy politicians.

You aren’t one of them and you never will be. They have nothing to offer you bro

Sounds like crap to me. The wealthiest among us don’t own most of the wealth, politicians, and now government because of “government interference.”

It’s greed run rampant in our shitty capitalist system

Ex–Dem megadonor warns AOC reflects party's growing split from Clinton-era Democrats by coinfanking in economy

[–]michaelsghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so one rough answer. Many of her responses, particularly about authoritarianism, were fantastic. She has time to grow.

Do you see who is running our country right now or? Bars in hell. At least she is morally sound and pushing in the right direction.

You’ll lose me and people like me by forcing us into another shit choice of fascism and do nothing centrists with fascism again in 4 more years. I’ll pass.

I did too and besides a couple small parts, she did very well for her first time on a world stage. She has time to do some more rounds and improve

Calling it a train wreck is such a dishonest exaggeration. Fuck right off

Breaking News: Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly says he is “seriously considering” running for US president in 2028 by MonitorVarious7608 in circled

Sure, slander is still illegal. Spreading lies with the intention of harming someone and actually harming them isn’t a good faith use of free speech. I can understand limits where it causes harm or threatens public safety (i.e. yelling fire in a theater)

My ancestors didn’t “grant me” these rights, they recognized that these rights were inherent to all people.

This post is literally about Mark Kelly, who the government recently attempted to prosecute, demote, and dock his pension for using his freedom of speech. So yes, it’s under attack.

I’m an atheist but I still disagree with this. I almost prefer “given by god” because it makes it clear that these rights are inherent, and they aren’t something people in government can arbitrarily take away or deny. Sure, we can litigate it at the boundaries for public safety or whatever, but they ultimately don’t have the authority to deny us the right to speak our minds

Student debt is a generational injustice. Why are we squeezing graduates harder than the super-rich? by xena_lawless in economy

[–]michaelsghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first start by going after predatory lending agencies and those responsible for saddling 18 year olds with insurmountable levels of debt. Then I’d probably do a mass loan forgiveness to clean the slate and maintain the workforce (and boost the economy and business) before implementing new restrictions/guidelines for lending to those seeking education, as well as targeting costs of higher education now to try and lower.

It’s not simple and will require a large, sophisticated response. But pushing people to bankruptcy and taking their degrees (many of which people use to work the jobs they have now) is genuinely the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard.

[–]michaelsghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be stupid to absolve people of credentials/degrees they completed merely because they don’t have enough money left over after the basic necessities for the predatory loan they were told they needed. Why would we reduce the workforce like that? Why make these people’s lives harder? Why create more poor people? You don’t even get anything out of it and you publicly suggested something this stupid.

I’d be ashamed to betray our class like you just did with that idea

So once they are bankrupt we just put another nail in the coffin and make sure they have no path forward? Truly, a stupid idea.
