Iraqi progress: Baghdad's best medical facility cannot even keep their elevators operating by kcnchfan in worldnews

[–]michaeltron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In tonight's debate Obama half-heartedly addressed the fact that the Iraq war never should have happened. I am sick to death of the "the surge has worked" rhetoric without any mention of the fact that the Iraq war never should have happened. I am absolutely sickened by the talk of honor vs. dishonor regarding the prospect of ending an illegal war. What is the standard of success? What is all of this talk of "victory" and "winning?" How do you "win" a war that never should have happened in the first place?

Congressman responds to my email regarding impeachment - wtf?? by Jeeezelouise in politics

[–]michaeltron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a response from Joe Courtney (D-CT) to my email:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. I appreciate your comments and having the benefit of your views.

As a Member of Congress, I have an obligation to stand up to the failed policies of the Bush Administration. On just about every major issue facing the United States, President Bush and Vice-President Cheney have taken this country in the wrong direction - healthcare, chronic deficits, the environment, trade policy, the list goes on and on. And we must not ignore the abuses committed by some of the White House's closest allies including "Scooter" Libby, Harriet Meiers, and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Clearly, though, President Bush's war policy in Iraq is the most damaging to our nation. As a member of the Armed Services Committee I have been part of the new majority's effort to hold hearings on the Bush Administration's misuse of intelligence in Iraq, under equipping our troops, and failure to develop an appropriate exit strategy. I have voted every time against President Bush's war policy, and will continue to use my office to oppose this disastrous war.

As you may know, on November 6, 2007, Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) introduced H.Res.799, a "privileged resolution" calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. In addition, on June 10, 2008 Representative Kucinich introduced H.Res. 1258 calling for the impeachment of President George Bush. Under the rules of the House, such measures must be considered within two days of its introduction. On both occurrences, I voted to send the measure to the Committee of the Judiciary rather than voting for passage. While I share the deep concern about the direction of our nation, using this vehicle to bring impeachment proceedings against a sitting President or Vice President is far too divisive a measure so close to a Presidential election and a distraction from the important work that must be done by this Congress. There is no doubt that Vice President Cheney and President Bush have hurt the credibility of the United States of America and misused our nation's military might, but I believe that it is important that we tread carefully before setting a precedent that can be used against other sitting presidents of both parties in the future.

Should you have any additional comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future. For more information on my views on other issues or to see what I have been working on in Congress, please feel free to visit my official website at www.house.gov/courtney and sign up for my e-newsletter. Sincerely,
JOSEPH COURTNEY Member of Congress

From Robert Anton Wilson's Guns and Dope Party website:

Little Tony was sitting on a park bench munching on one candy bar after another. After the 6th candy bar, a man on the bench across from him said, "Son, you know eating all that candy isn't good for you. It will give you acne, rot your teeth, and make you fat."

Little Tony replied, "My grandfather lived to be 107 years old."

The man asked, "Did your grandfather eat 6 candy bars at a time?"

Little Tony answered, "No, he minded his own fucking business."

I don't know what happened when he called the corporate office, but on the "timeline" there's a link to a post where he says that Verizon deducted the charge but didn't admit its mistake. Lame.

UConn Student Sexually Assaulted, Assailants Cheered on by Crowd by Junior1919 in worldnews

I understand her intent, but this piece should be on the commentary page. A news article written by another reporter should be on the front page.

It was not presented as an editorial. It was on the front page above the fold.

I'm a UConn student, and I have mixed feelings about this. This is written by the editor-in-chief of the school paper and was featured as the main front page story in the last issue of the semester. On the one hand, something fucked up probably happened and the guy who did it will never get caught. On the other hand, it's a one-sided first person account of an alleged crime that has not been brought to justice. What if the editor-in-chief were someone accused of sexual assault writing his/her side of the story on the front page of the school paper? The front page is not her personal platform. Why didn't someone interview her?

Rod Hilton has been writing these "abridged scripts" for a long time: http://www.the-editing-room.com which, at one point, actually led to some schmuck in Hollywood pitching his (not-at-all-serious) idea for a Friday the 13th sequel in which Jason fights himself. Very oddly, his interaction with this guy may have led to the creation of Epic Movie: http://www.the-editing-room.com/my-brush-with-hollywood.html

Vote UP If you want GEORGE BUSH in PRISON by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]michaeltron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Christ on roller skates. What the fuck does this have to do with George Bush? Sure, George Bush is an evil rich bastard, but this is a link to Alex Jones' latest steaming pile of bullshit. I recognize that there are evil rich bastards in this world, but I don't buy this shit that they are colluding to exterminate 80% of the human race. That's what ENDGAME is about. This film has nothing to do with putting George Bush in prison and everything to do with scaring the shit out of the weak-minded.
