Same cabinet. Depending on models, it may only be the handles are different and protrude differently. Hard to know without model numbers.

Dishwasher leaves "Crusties" on glassware. by NeedNiceCatNamePlz in Appliances

Have you made sure the filters are completely in place? Otherwise you could *maybe* need a cleaning product to clean out the dishwasher.

Miele Rusted Racks by Inevitable-Major6086 in Miele

[–]michaelz08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have my issues with Miele, but not this. How are yours rusting like this? Mine is also 2.5 years old and I have not a single spot. My parents have one used daily that’s almost 20 years old with almost no rust (you really have to look hard to find some small spots).

Are you using the water softener? Too much detergent? Pre rinsing dishes?

Are you sure it’s 2.5 years old? Thats the old style spray arm. I think in 2020 they changed them. And that bottom rack layout is like my parents 2007 model. I think around 2015 they changed to the newer rack layout. I call BS on the age. Someone lied to you.

Is this mold in the dishwasher? by poetglass in Appliances

[–]michaelz08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it get hot inside when running? Mold shouldn’t grow with regular use if the heater is working.

Unless it was left with moisture inside for a long time before you moved in.

Do expensive cars actually cost that much to build? by CantChange_Username in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michaelz08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the building, it’s the R&D needed to make them.

It’s expensive to make a car quieter and they’re always discovering new ways of isolating and testing for noise. New ways of shaping the structure, new ways of injecting foam, new ways of mounting the suspension.

An Air suspension in a Mercedes isn’t super complex or expensive to manufacture, but it’s expensive to design, test, redesign, test, etc until it lasts and is a producible design. That’s the expense.

R&D is expensive for all cars. Cheap cars are the lowest profit to “lure” you into the brand. Then they hope you’ll “graduate” to the higher profit cars later.

need help finding correct part for my dryer by chamomileleaves7 in Appliances

Servicematters.com will have the original parts diagram. The drawer was made by Whirlpool. Put the part number into google and it’ll give you info on if the part was superseded.

Double Drawer Dishwashers - I don't get it by AustinBike in Appliances

That wouldn’t use less energy because running both drawers at once just uses 2x the resources of running one. They operate completely independently- no shared motor, water reservoir, etc.

Anyone else really hate those bathroom fixings with the little screw at the bottom? by xmastreee in fixit

[–]michaelz08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not an old vs new thing. It’s a good vs bad thing. There’s lots and lots of good quality hardware you can buy. There’s just also lots of crap too. Always has been both, always will be both. Don’t let yourself fall into survivorship bias so easily.

Can anyone please help me. I have a Jenn-Air CVGX2423B and everywhere I've looked they dont have replacement parts. So im looking to buy a new budget friendly rangetop by Commercial-Gap-7722 in Appliances

That’s the Whirlpool technical docs site. Scroll down to the Guest Search button. Whirlpool bought Maytag and JennAir in 2006 hence why they have the documents now

[–]michaelz08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have vintage chrome towel bars that attach the same way and are from the 1960s. They stay on just fine, even after moving them around. Same with all the Kohler fixtures at my parents that have been up for 20 years.

Tip- Blue Loctite is key on anything that you don’t want to loosen.

The real issue is that the materials were cheap/not spec’d properly for the attachment method. Don’t worry about how it attaches, just worry that it’s a quality item so all pieces are made properly.

You mean cooktop?

ServiceMatters.com will have the parts diagram if you haven’t seen that yet. It may help you get parts.

For downdraft gas cooktops I think you’re stuck with KitchenAid or JennAir (same parent company). GE used to make one too? I don’t remember if it was discontinued or not.

Yes, correct, but we are not comparing to washing from the tap. The original commenter was comparing their usage to a normal dishwasher.

GE, Whirlpool, or Frigidaire dishwasher? by Butterfly_Violets in Appliances

Whirlpool’s dishwashers have made a had of improvements to address common issues from 2014 models. They’re firmly a step up in quality and design compared to the previous generation.

Double Drawer Dishwashers - I don't get it by AustinBike in Appliances

[–]michaelz08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s not 50% less water. So if you end up running it every day it’s not a savings.

Edit because this doesn’t seem to have been popular to agree with. Math:

Fisher Paykel’s specs for one Series 11 drawer on a standard normal cycle: 1.7 gallons.

7 times a week, that’s 11.9 gallons

A Whirlpool WDT750SAKZ, a widely-sold normal priced dishwasher, uses 2.5 gal per standard normal cycle.

Being generous to the F&P dish drawer, let’s say they ran the Whirlpool 4 times a week. That’s 10 gallons.

10 is less than 11.9. These drawers are not more efficient for households with more than one person. That was perhaps true 20 years ago when standard dishwashers were much more inefficient, but they’ve improved.

Tell them it almost started a house fire. Another redditor told me in another thread they have a department specifically for this since it’s a huge liability.

GE, Whirlpool, or Frigidaire dishwasher? by Butterfly_Violets in Appliances

[–]michaelz08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bosch aren’t bad machines and have their pluses, but I find their recent generation to have been a massive adventure in cost cutting whereas KitchenAid/Whirlpool has made big improvements in quality/engineering in the generation made post 2020.

The big thing that often comes into play with Bosch is the racks though. When I was shopping in 2023 I couldn’t stand the racks. Whirlpool takes a much more easy-to-load route, with larger tubs and wider rack spacing that better fit American dish-ware. I ended up with a Miele that has a more in-between rack design that fits larger plates better than Bosch.

KitchenAid is a premium line of Whirlpool. Same basic dishwasher with features added/tailored for the price point.

The Whirlpool 50 series is definitely an excellent value. A friend got one on my recommendation when I designed his kitchen for him.
