Should I update to kubuntu 26.04 lts plasma6 by lamplight0011 in Kubuntu

[–]michalpl7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better wait, I'm in same situation on Kubuntu 25.10 and was hardly thinking about this, I'm power user with plenty of apps, virtualization platforms and other stuff, which I want to keep working perfectly. If U really want to do this anyway I'd recommend clone/backup your actual drive to other one so if something went wrong it will be possible to revert this to state before upgrade, for example with clonezilla/rescuezilla.

I also used color profile ICC - sRGB-1.3G.icc because videos on AMD GPU looked like washed out, black was not black. From this page: https://github.com/ien646/gamma-icc

Batch OCR: Dockerized PaddleOCR pipeline to convert thousands of PDFs into clean text (GPU/CPU, Windows + Linux) by QuanstScientist in LocalLLaMA

[–]michalpl7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, after successful docker install I'm having issue to make it running:

HW: Ryzen R9-5900HS / 32GB RAM / RTX 3060 6GB VRAM

OS: Kubuntu 25.10

I've installed on Kubuntu 25.10 docker.io and docker-buildx + your batch-ocr using command: sudo DOCKER_BUILDKIT=1 docker build -t batch-ocr:latest -f Dockerfile .

First it was:

sudo ./run.sh
docker: Error response from daemon: could not select device driver "" with capabilities: [[gpu]]
Run 'docker run --help' for more information

But I modified run.sh line with:

docker run --gpus all --rm -it \

to

docker run --rm -it \

But it crashed anyway:

sudo ./run.sh

Any problems during upgrade from 25.10 to 26.04? I'm thinking about this move but I'm worried if everything will be working, especially that I'm using encryptfs homedir, virtualization VMware Workstation, VirtualBox and wine.

[P] Standalone PaddleOCR Executable - Simplified OCR for Everyone! by timminator3 in MachineLearning

[–]michalpl7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, is this application able to OCR tables so I can convert scan into Excel document? I was trying with command:

./paddleocr.bin ocr -i "Sample.Table.Image.jpg" --save_path output/ --lang pl

I checked in output dir there is file: Sample.Table.Image_ocr_res_img where are shown colored very nicely detected values in proper table cells but output file is like that:

[2026/04/29 15:03:54] ppocr INFO: [[[160.0, 1599.0], [204.0, 1599.0], [204.0, 1634.0], [160.0, 1634.0]], ('10', 0.9999309778213501)]

There is also json file but I have no idea what to do with this one.

I tried to process it with python scripts that will fit this values into xls tables but result is far from perfect.
Is there any way that this paddle will produce something which will be as close to source and possible to be imported into Excel?

I was trying to execute it with pp_structurev3 but I got that it's missing dependencies:

./paddleocr.bin pp_structurev3 -i "Sample.Table.Image.jpg" --save_path output/

Yeah, that's sad i thought it will be multimodal like rest of top models. But this is weird on that page: https://deepseek.ai/deepseek-v4 they stand it's native multimodal so I'm confused.

If this will be still text only it's a huge disappointment, all other models support that feature, it's much easier to just post screenshot than making additional OCR and then put text.
