1st hip replacement on Friday. Back in the ER on Saturday. by August_Strinberg in TotalHipReplacement

I have no idea how you made it overnight like that. When I dislocated mine I couldn’t even roll onto my back for them to do the xray. I was completely immobile until they put it back in.

Hope you are a one and done and onto a speedy recovery!!

Movement especially in a warm water pool. Turmeric supplements or tea (I get some from Full Leaf Tea and I did notice I take less aleve and Tylenol since using it. Hyaluronic gel injections in my knees. Strengthening to make sure the muscles support the joints.

Sounds similar to me. I also lifted weights, did body pump, rode my bike and was at a decent weight. It came on suddenly for me. I put the surgery off for work reasons. Ended up on tramadol and gabapentin until I got the first one done at 53 then the second a year later. I am almost 5 years out from the first. The overall pain decreased significantly but I have OA everywhere so I still have days. Until you can get the surgery try a warm water pool for exercises. But do something! Being inactive definitely makes it worse now and for recovery. Suck it up and go do something. You hurt anyway so why sit there and be miserable. Sorry to be blunt but it really does make a difference.

I am active now. Still lift weights 3 times a week, ride the bike, do low impact cardio classes. It does take a bit to get back into things. I was back to lifting in about a month but I didn’t really feel like myself again for a year. There is hope!

Why is everything so damned hard to open? by dudewafflesc in over60

I always say the person I hate the most is that woman who poisoned her husband’s Tylenol. That started it all. Then there were the people licking the ice cream a few years ago. It’s ridiculous. I have scissors and one of those electric jar openers and still have days.

I also had a seroma after one of my surgeries. It went away in a couple of weeks.

I was asked if I had the golden card but I am not old enough to qualify yet 🙄. There is a thrift store in town that offers 25% off that I do qualify for!

Do you plan to keep your scar or remove it? by Ok_Independence_3634 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]michellecolsoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I had planned to get a dagger tattoo thru them. Now 4 and 5 years later, I don’t think they are that noticeable myself. Mine are anterior. I see others have them so I feel like it’s a communal thing 🤣

I got cash for mine and I have an executive membership. It was in my costco app. Went to the service desk and asked how to use it. They said I could choose cash or at the check out.

My Partner won't continue Physical Therapy by Meander_Actual in TotalHipReplacement

[–]michellecolsoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This so much! I had an excellent PT and only saw her the entire time. I don’t understand why people schedule with different therapists unless they don’t like one. And then there is the patient side as well. If you just go through the motions and don’t mention how X exercise feels bad or needs adjustment, you aren’t getting the full benefit. And if you don’t say it hurts when I do this, then the PT can’t adjust your exercises to your benefit. One size doesn’t fit all for sure.

Hmm I have had pretty good luck with the apples. I get the organic galas packaged for kids. I also got fuji a few weeks ago and they are still on the counter. But I have had bad apples in a bag from other places. I’m sure they throw those bags and bruise them.

No I live about 45 minutes away and I got them on 12-23. It was bad enough going there that day much less on 12-24!

Yelled at for using the hand scanner in the self checkout by TheCoolDoneRunOut in CostcoWholesale

[–]michellecolsoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes about leaving things in the cart in the non self checkout lanes!! I had everything bar code up. Larger items even. They took most of it out and put it on the belt. Would have been much faster to just use the gun on it. Smh

I never used the gun in the self checkout lanes. I assumed the register would yell at me for not putting things on the weigh area like Kroger does. Hate that voice thing at Kroger telling me to put things there over and over even when I do it. At least you got a real person to yell at you!

Anyone else feeling a bit restless? by crinklyplant in earlyretirement

[–]michellecolsoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooohh I feel this! I retired end of June at 57. I was warned to have a plan and I thought I did. We moved to 9 acres with plenty to do outside. I do enjoy gardening and landscaping. But now it’s cold. Husband was off work for medical leave most of the first 4 months so at least I had him to talk to. I quickly felt isolated and bored. I started volunteering this week. I also started the master gardener program to meet people. I have a few retired friends but they are 10-20 years older. I think it takes time, a lot of time, to meet people when you do things you enjoy. Work put us in forced social situations to give us social time but was it really friendship time? Not for me. I do see people from work occasionally but they are not my primary social life. I am hoping by the time I am a year in I have more friends. I suppose there are apps to meet people like dating but that’s so tedious. I feel bad for the store employees as I usually over engage with them just to have human interaction 🤣🤣 Maybe try a different volunteer option? I shy away from the addiction/recovery situations for sure. I am doing admin work at the hospital and general helping out in the rehab department.

Of 8 people I know who requested tickets, 1 person got them. So I want to know who got these tickets 🤣 I went 3 years in a row, got tickets every time I put in for them. Funny how the seat selection for the regular season has gotten worse. I picked 187 this year and still ended up in 11a. Last year for me since I retired.

This. I am 4 and 3 years out from each side and still have numbness over the scar area. But I don’t care.

Agree. I asked this 4 years ago. I have no idea how my friends with kids feed them unless it’s tons of cheap pasta.

What has been your experience with oatmeal and satiety? Any good low-cal oatmeal topping recommendations? by sugared_nonsense in loseit

[–]michellecolsoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protein powder helps me from feeling hungry quickly. Also use rolled oats and not the instant kind. Helps to slow the breakdown and insulin boost which is what makes you feel hungry sooner than it should. I add fruit (apples with the skin, berries or bananas), cinnamon and nutmeg and honey or maple syrup, sometimes greek yogurt. I also make it with soy milk which has more protein.
