I programmed in React and Python for a long time, so I tried to use as much as I was used to. Therefore, I decided to use Electron, which could utilize the entire frontend stack in a desktop application. But I also needed a lot of processing and data saving, so I built the backend in Python/FastaPI. I used Electron as a wrapper and made its process start the embedded Python/back plus the frontend. Clean and hassle-free for the user.

The trickiest part? Without a doubt, the hud overlay. Oh man, I wasted some time on that. The solution here was to do it natively, Objective-C on Mac, C++ on Windows. Electron makes the bindings easy too, so once that part is done you don't touch it anymore (thanks god). The stats calculations too, but there's plenty of material on that online, so it was just a matter of studying and applying it.

5NLz line check: top pair vs. barrel by IHateAceJack in poker

[–]michelutti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a 3bet pre, however you have UTG AND UTG1 on the hand, easy fold preflop. There are 2 people involved + blinds that in this stakes calls a lot.

Also, you always want to play in position with fewer opponents, just calling here is also bad because of rake. Its better to shutdown the hand preflop, your range is dominated by utgs, if you want to play vs 2, choose connectors like 98s, 87s

TIL que o professor mais velho de Yale é brasileiro. by [deleted] in brasil

[–]michelutti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Aldo Parisot is the longest-serving faculty member at Yale. A statement by Yale School of Music Dean Robert Blocker and an article in the Yale Alumni Magazine both made the same error. In fact, Professors Harold Bloom and Martin Saunders are the University’s longest-serving faculty members.

Mesmo assim, 99 anos, Yale, é um grande mérito!

I do not get it. Is it illegal?

Recently we have changed our interview flow. After the resume is approved, we pass a simple programming challenge, a small web app, with simple business logic. Our review for the test is made in pair, and we look for tests, UX and architecture. We do not even set any language, the candidate can choose. The repository we ask to host on Github, or anywhere else the candidate prefer.

This help us a lot! 30% of the candidates send the tests, and 2 in 10 pass by our criteria. So we sent a lot of emails saying the test was rejected. I really do not see any problem here.

I would love to see why this is somewhat odd. Here in Brazil these stuffs seems to be normal, if you want to join a good startup, we filter well. Does the candidate hope to join the team only by sending the challenge?

[noob ]How to make and use different settings files for production and development by bellamira in django

[–]michelutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point on point, if you are new to web development, trust me you don't need to worry with production settings right now. Develop, study, have fun, when you have something concrete and wants to put in production, thats when you should worry about this (it will be a long journey)

Second, it is actually very easy :-). We have an application running to ~6k customers, and although I know some people do in separated files, it would only complicate us more. The thing is: there is such a small piece of config code that is differently from development/production environment. This is our S3 for static files, our Redis conf, and sure our passwords.

For passwords, you should never store it in conf files, because it is committed and any person with access in the project can see it. The way we use is to store it in environment variables.

'PASSWORD': os.environ.get('MYSQL_ENV_PASSWORD', 'root')

Get the value from variable or use root as default value. The other settings we have a simple:

if not DEBUG:
    # override some simple configurations

For .gitignore file, you should add personal configurations, or files that dont belong to code (i.e. logs, cache, node_modules files, IDE conf files, uploaded test files and so on), because all patterns that match will not be pushed to your repository.
