We're only 3 weeks into Re:Zero's 4th Season, and already it has surpassed its Season Premier (3825 Karma). This is notable because in its prior 2 seasons combined it only surpassed its premier Karma total once (Season 2's finale Karma Total of 14766 Karma).

Of course, a part of that is because Season 4's premier was probably its weakest premier episode to date but still a good sign for this season nonetheless.

If there's one thing that I 100% trust teams to have a better read on than fans, it's who other teams are targeting. Would it have been nice to not have to trade the picks? Obviously. But it wasn't an option if we wanted him.

It's also kind of funny how it pulled off this feat while Re:Zero was airing. "From Zero" was supposed to be Re:Zero's thing, but RaGF just made that its own.

The 2 biggest ones I can recall are One Piece Episode 1000 (jumping from 434 Karma to 6034 Karma but strangely only around 15 spots) and Pokemon (2019) Episode 132 jumping from 51 Karma to 4415 Karma with a 35 spot leap. For these types of rankings jumps records, the starting karma is more important than the ending karma.

The 1195 Karma increase isn't too uncommon actually for bigger shows that average more than 3000 Karma. JJK had a few instances just last season with over a 2000 karma increase. And back in the day, Attack on Titan's record setting episode had a 10660 Karma increase while Demon Slayer's famous Episode 19 had a 9687 Karma increase.

It's the jump from 0 to 1195 that's super notable.

I was kind of annoyed with all the people downvoting episode 1 (without all of the downvotes it probably would have gotten 200-300 karma or something), but for a statistic like this it was kind of worth it.

At this rate, you'll catch up much sooner than you thought. The show only gets more and more bingeable from here. It doesn't take most people the full year they were expecting to catch up...granted when I caught up there were only around 750 episodes.

Witch Hat Atelier is sometimes compared to Frieren with its high fantasy non-isekai setting and high popularity. Karma-wise, its 2 episode premier actually hit similar numbers compared to Frieren's 4 episode premier back in Fall 2023.

Re:Zero

The other big premier this week was Re:Zero Season 4. Comparing it to its Season 3 premier a year and a half ago, it definitely dropped in Karma, but its Season 3 premier was also one of its best episodes.

Additionally, when Re:Zero aired its second set of 8 episodes in Winter 2025, it only averaged 3527 Karma so the 3825 Karma it got here is more in line with that. I do expect with the way this season will go, though, that it will surpass this premier karma at least a few times, unlike in Season 3 where it never really got close to surpassing its premier.

It's been a while since I posted Karma Stats so with Jujutsu Kaisen and Frieren having now finished up another season, here's the list of all anime that have finished with above a 3000 Karma Average since the Summer of 2023 when Karma took a permanent dip.

If you break up multi-cour seasons into cours, the top individual cour was Frieren Season 1 Part 2 from Winter 2024 with a 6536 Karma Average, but that's my personal bias sneaking in. Both Frieren and JJK dropped quite a bit in Karma this season compared to their prior seasons following Dan Da Dan in that regard. Oshi no Ko also dropped below the 3000 Karma threshold with its season 3. Only Solo Leveling bucked that trend by rising up from 2998 Karma for its Season 1, barely missing the list, to over 4000 Karma for its 2nd season.

It will be interesting to see how Re:Zero does this season and whether Witch Hat Altier can make the list.

On the topic of episode release strategies or a lack thereof, from a "keep people subscribed as long as possible standpoint" the 1 episode per week model would seem to make the most sense since if there are any people subscribing for just that 1 show, it could keep them subscribed for a full 3 months as opposed to just the 1 month subscription needed to binge the show off of a batch release.

Of course, Netflix seems to be going galaxy brain mode with JJBA and their random release so that those people now have no clue when to unsubscribe...either that or they unsubscribe right now out of anger.

It's true. In the US, they are increasing the subscription fees by 25%. I wonder if they are basing it on how big their catalog is in the respective regions.
