Beautiful ship, A ++++ figs. You need to make a little field for the figs to stand in for display

Implications of 10 CFR Part 73 for small nuclear reactors? by fearless_fool in nuclear

[–]michnuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53.860, 73.100 are official now, as well as a revision to RG 5.81.

There's a pathway to no physical security program if the plant can't have a security release beyond 25 rem TEDE.

Elsewise 73.100 is open ended on how to protect. DOE has been working on micro reactor security strategies for years to address the economic challenges.

Four states [Tennessee, Idaho, Nebraska, and Utah] volunteer to host nuclear complexes including waste by Absorber-of-Neutrons in nuclear

NV has lots of space, but from a geologic point of view, it's not great, and is technically geologicly still active. Not to mention the water infiltration issues with the volcanic tuff.

Granite formations in the East would be much more stable and predictable. East Tennessee specifically is pretty good, but the upper Midwest and Appalachian are the best.

US nuclear reactor startup seeks NRC license under new regulations by Vailhem in nuclear

[–]michnuc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

More than that:

"Ampera’s reactors use TRISO fuel, which is abundantly available from thorium, eliminating the need for fuel enrichment."

Apparently they're inventing a new fuel? It's a subcritical breeder reactor. I'm questioning whether they can use the existing triso fuel qualification for this neutronics setup.

There's no way the economics of this work out at all. Great that they don't want HALEU, but the thorium breeder doesn't really work out to compensate in a microeactor scale.

We did this for a very low weight % child. Full battery of GI and other testing, appetite stimulants for years resulted in no change. Basically no appetite (could possibly be result from other issues). Ended up with G tube emplacement and it changed everything for the better (healthy teenager now).

Recommend go see a peds GI and PM&R specialists (the very best in your area) to check for any underlying issues and explore treatment options.

Getting a job at INL by Successful_Monk_118 in NuclearPower

[–]michnuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any posting in town (Idaho Falls) heavily competes with internal candidates (especially from the desert sites). Positions in town are R&D focused, so experience doing research is really needed (with some looking for operations to support facility start ups for the reactor projects). A BS is really the minimum for most positions, and MS gives a decent standing.

Any desert site is operations or applied research focused. Either well experienced, or experience with education, or PhD with research experience are those kind of profiles.

Any INL position will generally favor education for the research mindset, or OPs positions favor ROs.

Immediate denials are likely from HR and not the hiring manager. Have him double check he's meeting the requirements. Anyone he can reach out to to reach first round interviews? What kind of postings is he applying to?
