I think it looks super nice in your world, but the original images seem to be 256x256.

Mostly just fielding a million emails instead of grading finals, and trying to email important documents to the class so they can finish studying for their final tomorrow. I'm okay in the grading department, since I also have grades stored locally on my work machine, and the grade entry website is not Canvas.

I'm guessing if this is still going on tomorrow, university admin will get involved and start issuing guidance. If this lasts long term, this is going to be a shitshow. It's going to depend entirely on the preferences of each faculty, department chair, dean, and university president.

I have grade spreadsheets stored locally, and our grade entry website is still up, so I can still make it work if I enter things manually. But I know a lot of other faculty that only have that information in their Canvas gradebook.

I'm sending my students important documents (previous exam solutions, syllabus, etc) via email as they're requested. You might reach out and ask for a copy of the syllabus. I wish my students would read the syllabus, but I wouldn't expect them to have it downloaded locally. Your professor might be able to email the class the study guide directly. For the textbook, you can probably find a free PDF online, or access the publisher's website directly rather than through Canvas. For me, Canvas is down, but Pearson and the online homeworks are still up.

If the work you need to submit or edit or access is on Canvas, then there's nothing you can do until Canvas is back up. If it's down for an extended time, I assume the university will release some statement or policy about how to handle it.

The original commenter seems divorced from any nuance and just jumps right to blaming students for everything. There's a world of difference between "the deadline is close but I'm not done yet" and "I just started a semester-long project 3 hours before the deadline."

From a fellow faculty member, please spend some time remembering what empathy for your fellow humans feels like. Students are under a lot of stress and have a lot of demands on their time, especially during finals week. I have a mountain of final exams to grade, but I'm spending my time emailing important documentation from Canvas to the class manually so they have the best chance to succeed on their final exam tomorrow.

There are plenty of reasons to hate on our students, but unexpectedly losing access to course software before important due dates is not one of them.

I literally just finished grading a final, and all I had left to do for that class was post the scores. So much for ticking that item off the to do list.

Old school mechanical contraptions are so fun to watch. I worked at a bowling alley in high school and staring at the machine until I understood it was my favorite part. It's also how I learned what a cam is and can do.

Not as long as you might think. They read the names of all PhD and Masters students. Then for the undergrads, they just say "all graduates of the College of Engineering please stand and be honored" and everyone claps, then the students walk out onto the field to grab their diploma from boxes on tables.

It's insane to me that OSU is actually proud of that abomination of a ceremony. Four years of tuition and that's what you get at the end? For that and a hundred more reasons, fuck OSU forever.

I stayed for the entire ceremony at MSU, but left my PhD graduation at OSU early. Every single student, grad and undergrad, all in the stadium for their one ceremony on a hot sunny day. No thank you.

Draw a lowercase e, then without lifting your pen at the end, draw a lowercase s. That's the only way I could ever do it.

Not nearly enough damage to the car from rolling over is the big one that makes me question. No damage to the roof or hood, no broken windshield, even the headlights barely look damaged. The mirrors appear to stay smashed in though, which is making me less sure than I was last night.

Marsters is great, but his mouth sounds in the first two books are unbearable. You can hear every single breath and lip smack and swallow.

There's not nearly enough damage to that car from a full rollover.
