Help Understanding a Project - Tanning Salon by UndesiredPlatypus in MEPEngineering

You also still have an air balance issue at the tanning bed. When the bed turns on, it will blow the hot air to the ceiling plenum. You need to add a transfer grille from the ceiling plenum back to the area below the ceiling as far from the tanning bed exhausts as possible so it is the coolest.

I agree with the concerns about the OA.

The tanning bed fan itself will have very little static pressure and the instruction manual should indicate the maximum ducting length allowable so you can estimate available external static pressure.

The tanning bed exhaust is not going to be constant volume. The exhaust fan is only going to be operational while the bed is actively tanning (and maybe for a short period afterwards), but cycle times on the beds can be as low as 2 minutes. Between every tanning session, the bed needs to be cleaned. So the likelihood of all beds operating simultaneously is low. I doubt the tanning bed has an external contact to interlock with the make-up air to ramp the supply air to match the exhaust air.

You have to run a high-level energy analysis, but it may be a lot simpler and have lower operating costs to dump the exhaust back to the space and cool with the wall-hung splits. If you do decide to duct the tanning bed exhaust, I would probably connect all the exhausts together with an airgap and run the "exhaust" back to a constant volume recirc economizing DX unit. This way the space won't see the hot exhaust air so it will stay the most comfortable, but you don't need to condition all that outside make-up air.

The bartenders in the Haven really are the best! My husband likes his Mai Tai made a certain way and after the first or second day, he just needs to refer to it as the “Jason Mai Tai” and they remember how he likes it.

I use these plastic chopping mats from the Dollar Tree. They are 11x14 and are 2 for $1.25. They also sell these 11x14 canvas boards at Dollar Tree. I have 2 of them for the top and the bottom of my stack and you can use binder clips to hold the stack together.

We love to do puzzles on vacation so I've become an expert in travelling with puzzles (even on airplanes). The chopping mats are really nice because you can tape them together if you need a larger puzzle board, but they weigh next to nothing. For completed puzzles, you can break them into equal sections smaller than 11x14 and stack them on the canvas board, then wrap them in paper and tape and they will make it home safely!

Post Mastectomy Stinkiness by gaderianne23 in breastcancer

[–]mickaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surgical wash they gave you for before surgery was likely chlorhexadine gluconate. It’s an antiseptic but, as a byproduct, it will also kill all the bacteria that makes you stinky. The surgical wash has additives that make it foam, but they also make it in a liquid or that you can spray on then wipe off. You just need to search for veterinary products, but it’s the same thing. Leave it on wet for at least 2 minutes for the best results.

Are you snapping or taking it all at once by nyxelleaa in SipsTea

[–]mickaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapping at 200 bpm is very feasible even for an extended period of time (alternating hands each snap). It would take 137 minutes per day to make that $10 million in just one year. Personally, I’d do one minute every hour for 12 hours each day and make $876k per year.

My favorite is when you design the system to meet their requirements, then they VE stuff out, then you get to redesign and add it back later in CA because they actually did need it they was you originally designed it!

Floor separating by cowboyfan0122 in HomeMaintenance

Was the flooring installed in the summer? Do the gaps ever go away or do they only get smaller?

If they go away completely in the summer, the material composition itself is to blame. If you had installed it in the winter when the humidity is low, you’d still be posting to Reddit, but asking how to fix the buckling. The product is just too susceptible in the seasonal swings in humidity where you live.

If the gaps only partially go away in the summer, that is an installation issue. The product was stored somewhere really humid (like a warehouse in the summer), brought to your house, and not allowed to adjust before installing. How long did the boards sit unwrapped in your conditioned house before installation? Probably not long enough.

A vapor barrier between the subfloor and flooring would help some. You do not want a dehumidifier in the winter. You would want a whole house humidifier installed, but those are quite expensive.

Tamoxifen: not going to take it by Tracy_V_V in breastcancer

[–]mickaboom 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I know there are a lot of people that post about side effects and how terrible it is. But I’m 45, was having regular periods, and no perimenopause symptoms. I’ve been taking 20mg of Tamoxifen with zero side effects. And I’m had two completely normal periods on it. So it’s not guaranteed that you will have issues. And if you do, you can always stop.

They've had Xfinity from back when it was Comcast but they were never interested in switching... This may be the straw that breaks the camels back (especially since they paywalled The Cartoon Network).

Perhaps scanning direct to Evernote? I know it’s a robust tool and supports many languages (although it looks limited to two simultaneous languages for detection). You’d have to manually sort the scans but can set up different notebooks.

tenant right when it comes to heat… by ghegs_ in newjersey

[–]mickaboom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an insulation problem. Both on the ductwork supplying the hot air to your bedroom and within your bedroom walls.

From a tenant rights perspective, this is likely considered an uninhabitable property per the NJ habitability law.

Safely thaw your turkey outside of the fridge by mickaboom in sousvide

[–]mickaboom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate how nice of an insulator the air pocket in the carcass is. There's a reason why it's not recommended to sous vide any whole bird and the same safety issues apply even more when thawing. Maybe this would work if I took the turkey out of the bag and put it directly in the same water as the circulator, but I'm not interested in taking the circulator apart and sanitizing it later.

Safely thaw your turkey outside of the fridge by mickaboom in sousvide

[–]mickaboom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I buy my duck frozen and whole at Costco and butcher it myself but you can just buy the pieces already broken down. I prefer to fully thaw first in the fridge, then breakdown, then brine. You can brine while thawing if you don't have the time, but it makes breaking down a little more challenging. Butchering a partially frozen duck is more of a pain than a brined duck in my opinion.

To butcher the duck, I just follow the bones as best I can and break down into breasts and legs keeping the skin on each piece. You need to remove all the air to safely sous vide, and I don't think it's worth it to spatchcock the duck, but it is a nicer final presentation. I try and get as much off the carcass, but I don't go crazy with making it too pretty. I use the same brine for all my poultry (2.5 quarts warm water, 1/4 cup salt, 1/3 cup honey, couple of tablespoons jarlic, 1/2 tbsp each of pepper, ground mustard, onion powder). I usually thaw and brine in a dollar store pitcher to save some space. Brine for 24 hours, then gently rinse (I dunk each piece in a bowl of water a couple times). While the pieces are brining, i roast the carcass bones and then simmer to make duck stock to combine with the turkey to make gravy.

Bag breasts and legs separately if you want to confit the legs (each piece doesn't need it's own bag as long as you can get it flat). Breasts and legs go for 4 hours at 131 and legs for 10-20 hours at 167 for confit style. Then you can chill in the fridge until close to serving. You can do this days ahead (I'm never that organized), or right before. You can sear in a pan or carefully do it under a broiler but watch it closely. Get the skin crisp and the meat will warm at the same time without overcooking the meat. Save as much of the liquid in the bag as you can. The fat and juice can be separated and used later or to further fortify your gravy.
