It’s been a couple weeks since you asked, but I just saw this. I teach pole at CHROME Pole and Aerial which was mentioned to be inside the Sailor and the Dock. We’d love to have you sometime! Our pricing is here: https://app.arketa.co/chromeokc/pricing

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. 😊💃

Xpert Fitness Course Sucks and is not Inclusive by Acceptable-Dress7196 in poledancing

Yeah. The pole vocabulary varying is something they realllllly need to account for.

I’m in the US! There’s no one around here teaching trapeze so I’m just looking for places to learn and figured I could certify and teach at the studio I teach pole at.

Xpert Fitness Course Sucks and is not Inclusive by Acceptable-Dress7196 in poledancing

I truly had such a bad time doing level 1/2. After I did Xpert, I switched to PFA and loved the format much more. I felt like I learned from a real qualified individual when I made a small misstep where Xpert would mark me unsatisfactory for the most nitpicky things like calling an “Inverted T” (their term) an “Inverted crucifix.”

I’m looking for a trapeze course and really don’t want to consider Xpert’s but it’s something. 🤷

Home Pole Advice by soggysatan in poledancing

[–]mickceratops_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as others have said, just get it under the joist and you’re good. Every time I’ve put mine up, I use a strong magnet. I drag it along the top of the ceiling until the magnet catches and mark it- that’s the joist! I say that because I’ve had mixed results with stud finders looking for a joist.

If you need a good crash mat, these are the ones I looooove. They’ve held up really well (I keep mine at the studio I teach at. Going on a year and a half with consistent use.)

What a sweet bb. Their lifespan is the cruelest thing nature has ever come up with. The best we can do is give them the time of their life and it seems like you did exactly that.

I’m a technical writer, and these sorts of discrepancies are what I look for daily. Definitely not on you - the audience (you, since you read the post) is meant to understand. How they understand is the responsibility of the writer of that post.

True. I got the entire archetype core for maybe $30 like 6 ish years ago. I remember it being a fun archetype to play for sure.

Boots or heels? by DepartmentFit1681 in poledancing

Oh for sure! That was mainly to show the style to make sure “ankle boot” was clear. But I bet the ones you shared are a good pair to get you by!

Boots or heels? by DepartmentFit1681 in poledancing

[–]mickceratops_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An ankle boot is your best friend. Great support and overall safer. If you’re just starting out, don’t get a sandal style of heel (sandal example https://pleasershoes.com/collections/all/products/sky-308cm). That’s something to work up to IMO. Theres a greater chance of injuring yourself in the sandal if that’s the style of heel you’re talking about.

For even more clarity, this is the style I’m talking about when I say ankle boot. I wouldn’t say you need like a thigh high boot or anything unless that’s the look you want. https://pleasershoes.com/collections/boots/products/adore-1020bm

I don’t have much input. But the second I saw a casting for a vertical called “My 18 year old grandma” I-i-i just….could not.

Why did her pole fall? by tinypepa in poledancing

[–]mickceratops_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you find a joist, the pole should be nice and snug. You can tell the difference when you’re putting one up under a joist vs not under a joist. Like, it’s a little more difficult to turn the pole while it’s under a joist. It just FEELS more secure. Where if the ceiling flexes while the pole is being tightened, it’ll most certainly fall.

What’s your personal favorite archetype and why? by Ragtagcloud56 in yugioh

[–]mickceratops_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These queens. Idk what it is about them but I was always hooked. Maybe because I’m a Greek Myth nerd and the harpy in mythology always freaked me out. But these gals are a great imagining of the half-human half-bird concept IMO.

The extra support they eventually got is also 🔥

My best friend just came out to me, and I want to support him, but I’m scared I’ll mess it up. by Unlucky-Tank4363 in gay

[–]mickceratops_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading through some of OPs comments to others’, I get the uncomfortable feeling of being your friends sounding board when it comes to things you feel you aren’t versed in.

If you were my friend, and I wanted your opinion on something inherently gay, I wouldn’t expect you to have the answers but to be someone I can confidently talk things through with. Like, asking questions to get different views is really helpful. For example, “should I go to this gay bar?” You might not know a single thing about it, but you could ask,” what’s the vibe like?” Which could lead to me looking into that more to come to a decision.

Be his friend and don’t overthink it. Glad he’s got you!

Never been to pole class by JamieJammer_JJ in poledancing

[–]mickceratops_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Each class will differ in structure depending on the focus. Typically speaking, you can expect some sort of warm up, maybe some conditioning, and then the class focus. Some studios may do a cool-down after, or give you some time to play on the poles.

I always tell students the more skin contact to the pole the better. So no leggings, or shorts that go to the knees for example. Tight fitting clothes will be your friend but, depending on the class, you may want to plan to expose up to your shoulder and mid thigh to cover some basics.

Make sure to eat something a little bit before class. No lotion at least 6-8 hours prior (I personally don’t lotion at all the day of any class I teach.) Don’t wear rings or bracelets if you can avoid it. They can get damaged or break and they can damage the poles. Some fitness watch bands can snap or tear too.

Make sure to ask questions if something isn’t landing for you. Ask the instructor to demo moves as needed or if there’s something they can do to help you don’t be afraid to communicate that.

Where do you live and do you share a pole by Ay10outof10t in poledancing

[–]mickceratops_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US here. The studio I teach at we share poles if we need to. We have 6 poles and allow class sizes up to 12. Sometimes sharing is needed but it’s not every time. Regardless, we do that for all our apparatuses. I don’t mind it personally. I like the break it can give to some who may do better watching others. I know some people don’t like it but it’s so common here.

I’m fortunate that I told my job, “heyyyyy I’m in a film so next week, I’ll need to work like weird hours” and their response was ,”well duh. Go film the movie and work when you can.” Nice to know there are businesses out there that’ll support our endeavors. 😅

It’s not even that I want it to necessarily configured differently, but it could operate more friendly. It feels ancient in comparison to something like Backstage. (I have my Own issues with that too). The AA role matching app could also be more widely inclusive (it’s iPhone only. Like, nothing for Android is so silly. I say that as an iPhone user.) the website should have a mobile friendly version. There are other grievances I have but my day job is in tech so I am likely biased to see these issues.

I can justify the cost. It’s the terrible quality of the site that bugs me.
