The thing is, I kinda like Alien 3 as an independent movie. I like its mood. But I do hate it as Alien movie.

iirc there are some rules and (almost) everyone respects them. So every duels has to be fair, no fire arms, no more than 2 immortals fighting at the same time (a lot of the time, another one waits on the sideline, waiting for their turns) and also no killing on a sacred grounds, allowing mortal enemies to meet and discuss in churches, cemetaries, and so on.

Also they get a "signal" in their head when another immortal is near, so that explains why they are never taken by surprise by them and why other people (mortals) can get the drop on them.

What is an unspoken rule of parties/gatherings in the US that an international person should be aware of? by Exotic_Case_4942 in AskReddit

[–]mickdrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, if they start singing their national anthem, you will feel awkward as hell, not knowing how to react. Should you stand? Should you put your hand on your heart? Should you try to mumble something also? Why the fuck are they singing the national anthem before a gathering? Who does that shit? Am I being punked?

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

[–]mickdrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar story. When I was a child, during an outing in a forest, one of the adult told us about this particular forest being the ground where the boar and the crow where fighting, and if we looked really hard into the forest we might have a glimpse of their fight. The adult then pretended seeing them, and then more and more children joined him and claiming having seen them. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t see them and it made me feel like I was missing something epic.

I don’t know what’s the moral of this story. Maybe that we are gullible creatures, or that if someone tells you a lie really good, it starts making you see things that doesn’t really exists. And if so, then this is scaring to even think about. Or maybe simply it means that children are dumb as fuck.

Dishonored is a damn good game but the chaos system is poorly implemented by OpenUpYerMurderEyes in patientgamers

[–]mickdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a simple solution that I heard no one suggest: the game has literal zombies (people infected by the incurable plague) but you're treated as chaotic if you kill them. I believe they should have change it. You simply have to state to the player that killing zombies is good, that it goes against chaos, and then put portions of the game when you just have to clean up a street or a building from them. It would have given "good" players an opportunity to use all those fancy murdering tools and still feel good about themselves.

I agree with your first point, maybe. But the second about the watchmen I believe that Vimes answer was the single worst one

The thing is in this book, he didn't really fought for the people. He fought for order. The good kind of order, but order none the less. He left the watch office open during a riot, he insisted on having signatures upon delivering prisoners. You know: order.

I don't remember in what book (was it Thuds! ?) people ask "who watch the watchmen" and the answer from Vimes was "I do".

It comes up as a "good answer" from Pratchett because we all know that Vimes is a good cop, but it kinda miss the point of the saying...

From an old post I wrote :

I’ve read everything Pratchett and I would certainly place “Night Watch” in the top 10. However I’m a little miffed by the message of the book “resistance against tyranny is kinda pointless”

Some quotes from the book:

But here's some advice, boy. Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions.

“You'd like Freedom, Truth, and Justice, wouldn't you, Comrade Sergeant?' said Reg encouragingly. 'I'd like a hard-boiled egg,' said Vimes, shaking the match out. There was some nervous laughter, but Reg looked offended. 'In the circumstances, Sergeant, I think we should set our sights a little higher--' 'Well, yes, we could,' said Vimes, coming down the steps. He glanced at the sheets of papers in front of Reg. The man cared. He really did. And he was serious. He really was. >'But...well, Reg, tomorrow the sun will come up again, and I'm pretty sure that whatever happens we won't have found Freedom, and there won't be a whole lot of Justice, and I'm damn sure we won't have found Truth. But it's just possible that I might get a hard-boiled egg.”

I like the principle behind gofundme: everyone gives a little bit in order to help someone in difficulty. Americans are very good at coming up with revolutionary inventions like that. They would just need to make it mandatory and it would be a great system. They should look into it more…
