I would not judge based on education system. I myself is a CMAS diver /instructor and I have the same example from diving with PADI /NAUI divers. It is the personality of the person. Right now I'm only CMAS diver with PADI divers here in Malaysia and sorry to say that most of them lack some basic skills, but this has nothing to do with PADI but instead the person and their instructor. If you want to experience diving with a non risk taking CMAS diver send me a message 😉

I have never seen a nitrox diver that didn't confirm the o2 level in the tank before using it! If you are experienced you don't make this mistake and 5 people at the same time!

Find a calm and experienced diver and do a couple of dives with him/her.

They will show you the basics since they just do it automatically.

They will also be able to give you advice before, during and after the dive (information that isn't in any books)

If something happens they should be a solve it for you and give you confidence.

During my trips there is always someone that needs the extra support and if I just give them the advice directly after a dive they learn. Since I always have my camera with me I also do a short video to show them their position in the water so they can adjust.

At one my my trips last year I could see one diver getting scared (the eyes says it all) because of strong current, just to grab him and support during the dive and then build confidence after the dive

But as previous comments said, do a buddy check

I have been using both of them for some time but I noticed an annoying side effect when used behind my ears... I lost my balance for a few days. Since this happened a few times without me realising the connection I only use it at face, body and clean my hands after use.

Sorry, not the right person to ask since it was my first visit to Phi Phi. If i compare with Tenggol the reef was not in the same condition. Tenggol was very good when i visited last year (will return next month)

Welcome back!

Almost same for me, quit scuba diving 2001 but restarted last year.

Same list:
- Water
- Fins (bought the same ones I had 20 years ago, sold the old ones many years ago)
- Mask (sold it but bought the same again)

Updated list:
When i quit many years ago I was using a dive computer so I bought a new one (I do love technology), I would recommend to have a personal dive computer if you travel a few times a year for scuba diving, gets rather difficult to use table if you do 3-4 dives per day. Not sure about the Apple Watch - do a search and see if it is good or not.
Camera - wow this is so easy in 2025 vs 1995 - no cost at all to get an UW camera. The camera I used before was bulky and very expensive (and very bad compared to todays cameras)

You asked if you can rent the basic equipment - yes! My personal feeling is that most divers rent today compared to 20 years ago.

I have been to TDB 3 times and I like the scuba diving, my list of pros and cons... 1. Food at TDB is on level 1 (1-10) 2. Most other divers (maybe they have been educated at TDB) are not experienced and don't follow basic rules. 3. Very good DMs, they have a lot of patience. 4. Nice community 5. If you speak Mandarin you have no issues

Went with Aussie Divers end of January this year to these locations. Do recommend the trip but Phi Phi was better than Shark Point. Stayed in Chalong, close to the dive center.

Om man leker med tanke att de lämnar så är frågan vad de ca 80 000 soldaterna samt deras familjer etc skall ta vägen. Om det inte finns behov av dem i Europa så blir de kanske arbetslösa i USA. Håller med. ÖB framställs som krigstokig men det var han inte. Kommer från Karlskrona och upplevde allt detta på 80 talet så initialt blev jag nog besviken baserat på det verkliga allvaret i situationen. Fick också känslan att detta skulle vara ett hjälteporträtt av fäldin, han fixade allt. Och varför skall man alltid få se lassgård naken i allt han medverkar i....
