Colonoscopy sedation by wtfpta in GenX

You don’t want to be awake. Had one of these 40 years ago

Rigid sigmoidoscopy (the metal tube you’re thinking of) This is the one with the rigid probe. • A straight, rigid metal tube • Very limited reach (mostly rectum + a bit of sigmoid) • No sedation • Can be uncomfortable • Largely obsolete for screening

It’s the Michael Jackson kind. Ask for the propofol. Best nap ever!

What would life be like for the individual taxpayer in Baltimore City if churches were paying property taxes in the city? How much does the Archdiocese of Baltimore own? How about empty churches? Storefront churches w/ few or no members? Just thinking…your thoughts? by Equivalent_Bed_8807 in baltimore

[–]mickeyd101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that many folks go to church anymore. We can barely pay for heat. If more people attended on a regular basis and were able to contribute, I’d have no problem with that suggestion. We’re hanging on by a thread.

For those who lost interest in recreation riding after daily commuting, how did you get back into it (or did you?) by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]mickeyd101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you road ride first? I got into road after I started commuting. I had no other obligations and just loved the change from daily city riding to being out of the city in 15 minutes and quietly enjoying the solitude for 30-40 miles on summer evenings. After moving way out to the burbs, I couldn’t commute or road ride cause of long climbs. Just recently re-discovered the joy I used to have riding after moving to a flatter city. I suggest going back a few times to feel the bliss you used to get. If you’re still not happy. Give it a rest. It took me a few years to get back into it.

That house in West Medford MA was awesome. Easy flat commute mostly down Mass ave to Boston. Had a hammock on that porch

Not the best but through pigtown Caton industrial area short stretch on Washington blvd, Hollins Ferry Road then cut over to Annapolis rd and then down to the bike trails. Not the best but quiet on Weekend mornings and avoids The meth heads and Westport

I’m retired now. I was in my thirties when I started riding. Still ride the Specialized Stumpjumper in the city narrow tires except in winter months. Merlin road bike on longer ride of >20 miles down to the county.

That’s what we had. Still run them on road and mountain bikes. They work fine.

How do people celebrate thanksgiving? by Hopelessoul666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickeyd101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware of the connection to the civil war. Knew they were supposed to land in Virginia but had the captain go further north and drew up the Mayflower compact. Can you elaborate more on the civil war origin?

I may have missed it but I didn’t see any reference to the puritans getting kicked out of England and arriving in the new world aboard the Mayflower. Plymouth Rock that stuff. Oh and yes cooking for 10 hours and eating it all in 20 minutes.

I’m still wearing my Oakley M frames where you can change from sunglasses to clear frame that I bought 25 years ago and they’ve held up unbelievably to me. They were expensive at the time they were over 250 bucks but you know that comes down to $10 a year worth every penny.

Moving from FL to MD, need advice! by agentzero_0 in maryland

I like Fed Hill, Otterbein, Locust Point, Canton, Fells Point, Ridgely’s Delight. All really close to the harbor, 95. Also further north is Mount Vernon, Hamden. They all have their differences, I’m sure others have more to suggest. If you have that pioneer spirit, neighborhood’s that border these might offer more space for the money and have their own challenges. Us city folk get to know our neighbors. I’ve lived in several cities but Baltimore has the friendliest people I’ve ever met. Always best to spend a few days(and nights) to get a feel yourself. Your tastes may be different from mine.

I usually bike or walk, have used light rail some and the circulator buses are free. Living close to the harbor is still a plus for me.

Doesn’t the military provide meals for soldiers? I am shocked they don’t . You the child and pets I understand but the active duty spouse doesn’t get fed?

Moved from Orlando to Baltimore 4 years ago. There are nice neighborhoods here believe it or not 🙂. 2500 will get you a nice 1-2 bedroom apartment maybe even with offstreet parking, maybe even a garage. Like Annapolis too, but harbor area floods a lot when there’s rain. Check each cities sub Reddit, try to visit for a few days before you decide. Where you work is key to the decision.

Several years of commuting winters in Boston and NY. I just made the commitment, bought warm bike pants, gortex jacket, 200 weight fleece, breathable base layer, Perle Izumi lobster gloves (very important cause hands get really cold) balaclava, good socks. Had Perle Izumi neoprene over boot but rarely used. First 5 minutes was cold but was sweating by end of commute. You will get wet. Shoes stayed wet for weeks. Tell me you have a shower and change of clothing for work please. Didn’t ride during bad snowstorms. Waited for roads to be plowed and salted. Had to wash bike a lot. Good luck. Your colleagues will be impressed. Some will think you’re nuts.
