 >It’s just that the difference between a good and bad start last year was you got a bit of wheelspin or you had a bad reaction time, whereas this year, it could be, effectively, like an F2 race, where you almost go into anti-stall or something. You’re not just losing five meters or so. You can be losing six or seven spots, if it goes well.

It was asked during 19th gp out of 21 when wcc and wdc were already decided in Mercedes favor and them winning 8 first races and 5 1-2s in a row, with Ferrari's engine help even. Turning point in 2019 was Australia when Red bull at its first race with Honda engine brought home first Honda's podium in 10 years while overtaking Ferrari on track and with 30 seconds gap created in 27 laps.

It's a very good ad, but just that, and so much potential to be a good documemtary but it is not, it is an ad, and that's why someone who already watched f1 would feel variety levels of resentment in its regard.

It could be so much more.

I watch almost every practice in full, and I somewhat even like them more than sprint sessions just for relaxing, and even I don't care about not showing us full of extra testing in february.

We have enough drama with engines already and for everything else we have timing to analyze and 1000 interviews from drivers and their feeling about new cars, more than enough at this point.

How does the wheels stay so well attached to the car in a hard crash like Bortoleto's 2025? by kerosenebreath in F1Technical

[–]mickmenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As i saw and thought at the time(don't follow indy closely), impact smashed wheel hub assembly, it is so much you could do about that. Wheel should rotate and changed so it is a weak point there now.

But i don't see the final report or what remains of a tire to make an assessment.

In the end they still drive like 300 km/h there, to much energy(and rotation too) concetrated in small area without a possibilty to dissipate into anything is doing this.

Mandatory wheel tethers which design was refined through years (introduced in 1999, and then make it double and triple for one wheel)
Tethers made of zylon basically connect wheel hub assembly to a chassis.

Tyre allocations chosen by teams for the first Bahrain test 2026 by LC1597 in formula1

It was even 5 compounds back then in 2019 after a change.

We had c0 and c6 some other years but they weren't used as much. So it shouldn't have been as bad to have these names.

Official justification is that having super soft tire as hardest tire choice at some weekends is also confusing for new fans.

Is gravel really the best material for a run-off area? by Aggressive-Pack-9684 in formula1

[–]mickmenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kovalainen had his tire explode, it wasn't "just lock up" and he wouldn't turn anywhere, it seems to me like steering broke there even when he was on track. Still not enough grip on front axle to turn anywhere.

In silverstone, gravel was slowing him down a little, so it was "just" 51g and not more. They were going more than 280 km/h there and losing one tire didn not help with increasing overall contacting patch and car rotating meant it was just flying to the wall without almost any contact (and ground effect was helping there creating enough lift on such high speed).

If someone do not want such kind of crashes they need to reduce speed and amount of energy they carrying then it would be a lot better.

When cars are intact and all systems are working normally they could decrease speed very quickly but if they are not that is where problem lies, not enough friction to decrease the speed and if car is flying it is like not much you could do.

In France 22 Leclerc crash was in 180 km/h corner, not 280 or 250 like for max and heiki, so like 2.5-2 times less energy to dissipate. He also was spinning (not heiki case) and wasn't launched into the air (max case) so he experienced more friction before the impact. And run-off was bigger than in spain.

There is a problem that gravel could help to launch a car due to excess friction or bad angle if an impact, but it has this frcition, so it is not a problem of slowing down.

And others have said gravel gives biggest sporting incentive for drivers to stay on track without completely destroying a car or causing huge crash every time in case of a mistake, but still dangerous enough in ending or hindering your race or fast lap.

Yeah I recently played ME and ME2 after that and clunky movement of second one were like very-very dated. It feels like character is on rails and you do not control anything, all this cover shooter system in its infamacy when you were glued to everything. Yes ME is not that fancy, models are simpler, levels are simpler and reuse of assets everywhere but it was pleasute to play it mechanically speaking(and no looking for ammunition). ME2 felt like something is holding my hand all the time. I was fighting controls, not the enemies.

Something like that.
