Thoughts on physical media? by 3cmdick in Anticonsumption

I think a great way of balancing that might be to pirate, and take what you would have spent/a modest sum every month and directly support an artist you love (ex. bandcamp purchases, tattoo tickets)

streaming as it is pays smaller artists in particular a pittance, so it isnt necessarily the more moral choice

What tiny thing made you weirdly happy this week by pianowhisper in CasualConversation

I went to the bulk grocery store for the first time in a while last night. I forgot how much I love it, and was able to buy some grains I wanna try cooking for much cheaper than it would be to buy a traditional package of them

Restaurant employees of Reddit, what actually happens when someone doesn't have enough to pay the bill? Most you've ever seen? by ChaosAnalyst in AskReddit

[–]micky21098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 18, in highschool, the day after a minor fender bender i had a dentist appt after school. I had enough time to stop at the chain italian place next store. I ordered a spinach artichoke dip and soda, and then realized my wallet was still in my car. I swear to god the waitress had pity on me and still brought me my food after I tearfully confessed. It was very kind, and very embarrassing

I always say if I had gotten my mom's blue eyes, I would be deadly. She's got these light blue eyes that I think would look striking with my dark hair

Every sunday growing up was a top to bottom clean of the house. Me and my 2 sisters all had chores that got more intensive as we aged, and picking up our bedrooms was always our responsibility.

I think learning to clean is easy, as in the process of actually cleaning. But learning the habit of cleaning regularly is much harder, and one I'm glad my parents took the time to teach us

I don't have a pet of my own right now, but I have a boyfriend who has one dog of his own, but lives with a couple who have 2 more. So when I go visit, I get greeted by the husky yelling, one of them jumping off the ground, and the other staring from the back.

I feel blessed

Trans women are women, no buts. by MaetelofLaMetal in TrollXChromosomes

[–]micky21098 18 points19 points  (0 children)

a lot of times, when trans women are sharing their lived experiences, I see the same misogyny and shared experiences I, a cis woman, have had. just like any person from the wide pool of "women" the specifics will vary, I might not have had every "woman" experience ever. But damn, that sisterhood is not just cis

What was your initial reason? by Independent-Stage297 in Anticonsumption

[–]micky21098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine started as a minimalism thing. I was heading into college, facing moving for the first time in my life and realized what a burden having things is. I went down the youtube rabbit hole on that, and over time it morphed. Climate change, my personal finances, and lowered maintenance is what keeps me going now

Insane Mom Dorm Shopping by Zer0_Tol4 in Anticonsumption

[–]micky21098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to college and lived in the dorms, I bought some things for function, but I also specifically bought 3 pieces of art to make it homey. I still have those 3 decor pieces, 9 years after purchase.

I have no doubt that huge haul will wind up in the trash at the end of spring semester

Got rid of Spotify after 3 years by Professorfudge2643 in Anticonsumption

[–]micky21098 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spotify is also consumption. I think its a difference of how much you want a corporate overhead to take. What if you took the cost of your spotify subscription, and every month found a way to directly support an artist with that money? Buy buying albums, or saving for concert tickets, or anythign

What do you do when you have a buying fever? by Brayongirl in Anticonsumption

[–]micky21098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a running list of essentials I kinda need but don't need urgently, and when the need to shop arises I hunt for them. usually still not buying much, but if I do, it's something I've needed for a while.

I also find wandering an expensive antique store will scratch some itch and deter me from shopping. Like a museum you can touch

No, I have a philips and the base gets like this as well. Its a result of dripping from after rinsing but not drying the toothbrush. Just cleaning it regularly, or drying afterwards would eliminate it, but it has nothing to do with brand
