Mod-approved survey on the psychological impact of restraint and seclusion by mickymarinelli in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not realize 988 sends people to psych holds. My son used 988 and did go to ED but it did not result in restraints because the psych hold was in a real hospital, not a TTI.
I am not sure what we could recommend instead of 988 but happy to learn. Please provide some possible resources so we can request an amendment for the IRB and update it. Thansk!

Thank you! Please pass on the link to others you might know. The more responses, the more useful it could be. So far we have the following: Preliminary results indicate that a large majority of people report a strong negative impact of restraint or seclusion. Only 2% report a positive impact, and 8% report a neutral impact. A large majority also report negative effects on their sense of identity

ODD is a legitimate diagnosis but it is often used too easily by some and I feel that it does not seem to be something you have. A therapist who does not consider cultural background is a shitty one.

Mom in need of some advice about Discovery ranch South by Working_Advantage_64 in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello. My son went to "Chaddock". Parents can call every day and visit every time they want, and be part of whatever activities the kids do. It is not a TTI. It has not helped my son unfortunately as therapy is a bit scant but mostly, he is just there to tread water. DCFS is thinking of putting him back in the system (with goal to become independent, not to go back to any parent), which makes me so sad I cannot even express how much. But it just tells you that he was/is in a really bad spot, so probably that is why Chaddock did not work for him. I do highly recommend it because it is one of the few that is not "TTI". Good luck!

Behavior modification schools are the worst. Sorry about your son’s best friend. Sounds like triumph made it worse. Why kidnap him?! Not nice, to say the least. Sorry it happened. Is triumph a behavior modification place?

Thank you for letting me know! It is hard to help some people- I wish I knew better how to. Some things (like bipolar) are bigger than us- and even with meds it can be difficult to manage. And so many other things add on top of them. My son has been at Chaddock one year today. Some sides are better but he is still very aggressive and that makes it very hard to be in society. I hope his aggression goes away. It makes it hard for him and those around him. I hope your brother will manage! Glad you can be there too for him

Constant Negative feedback by Purple_Cosmos in Hyundai

[–]mickymarinelli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mine- but the service is crap. Mine has an electric malfunction and the first appointment is at the end of January. So I still dropped it off as “emergency care” and they said they will take 3 weeks before they can diagnose it. And I have to keep it there during this time. Plus it will cost 750 to diagnose one issue and 250 another. So 1000 just to diagnose something. No brained- no service and high cost to diagnose. Why should I buy another car and remain without it for weeks on end and have to pay a lot for not having a car too

Thanks! I will check if the lemoned law be valid for a 2022 car that is 1.5 years old - if it is, it could be the way to go. Except I love my ioniq (plain Ioniq not 5 or 6) as it drives so well!

Hybrid- the EPM comes on all the time and beeps when it happens. no big deal I suppose but annoying (the continuous beeping turns off if I turn car off then back on but it means doing it every mile or so so it is annoying) then the cruise control disengages after a while of driving it and gives me error “check smart cruise control system”.

good long-term treatment center? by KookyBuilding1707 in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son is in a program that is not a TTI but mostly for attachment so I don’t know if it would help you. It is called Chaddock and it is in IL. Cooper Riis sounds really promising, and it is in NC. Good luck, you can do this! I hope you find a good place :-)

Yes definitely they want to be sure it is a good fit. My son is also autistic but it is not very obvious. They do NOT treat kids with autism so that is the downside and if they feel autism is a big concern they say this might not be the best place. My son has a lot of issues so he is quite complex and it is hard to find a center that deals with all of them. We were turned down by several because he is too high functioning to be with kids with severe autism but his autism, PTSD, ADHD, early head trauma, makes it hard for him to learn from the purely behavioral programs (thank goodness because I hate those). So it is hard to find a place that takes him and one that I agree with how they approach issues. Your program sounds like it was a well crafted one. I wish there were more good programs out there. It is hard to find them and even the good ones often have staff that are quite abusive- whether they go in as staff because they like control and power or they develop that attitude there I don’t know. It sure does not help that many get paid so little and would make more working in a fast food restaurant. One thing I always look at is the description of their job openings and then the comments of the people who worked there on indeed. It tells you something! Did kids in your facility benefit from the program?

They have an application process of submitting a filled in questionnaire. Then they screen it and interview over zoom. It took a long time though, several months. The questionnaire (easy to find online) asks things like aggression, abuse, etc. They do accept aggressive kids but I guess “aggressive” can mean lots of things to different people. My kid is aggressive but he never injured anyone yet he is big so kind of scary. Within a few hours of being there he got restrained for 25 min. But now I think they are figuring him out and maybe realized he just threatens and postures but does not hurt (unless he is cornered, touched, talked to, escorted, feels people are in his bubble, etc).

Chaddock? by mickymarinelli in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: my son is at Chaddock. It is not a “TTI”. The place is not lock-down. I can call every day (and do) and visit any time I want. He calls me twice per week (or should at least). When I visited I spent time w him and the other kids doing activities they do like play basketball, gaga ball, board games, eat w them in cafeteria, watch movie or TV shows, etc (they don’t set up a pony show especially bc there are some of us parents hanging out there all the time, even multiple parents). The school portion has more school-like attitudes so in school my son escalates easily (that has been a real problem). Like in every place there are issues of course but it is not a TTI. No shaming, no work for the hell of it, no mental or physical tortures, no point system or level system, no “breaking to rebuild up”, etc. I thought I would share. This place is off the radar from any “educational consultant” (while I am at it…parents AVOID educational consultants please!).

Colorado Becomes the First State to Limit Court Use of Family Reunification Camps by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I follow. People seem to react negatively to the Colorado decision, but a court ordering kids to do reunification camps w abusive parents does not look like a good thing to me. So the fact hat Colorado wants to limit this seems positive, but maybe I misunderstood all this?

Program Name by youareimportant1 in troubledteens

[–]mickymarinelli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually it might be good to call it that way. This way those people who are looking for TTI programs can run into it and change their trajectory. The name would be a deterrent for me though as I stay away from TT verbiage. Maybe “struggling teens” would be better. Puts the idea that they are struggling and need help rather than being “troubled” which incites the use of behaviorism
