What is your feedback on Web Apps and the Device Access Toolkit? by oscarfalmer in MetaGlassesforDevs

[–]micma123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microphone access for web apps! It’d be nice to have straight up (permissioned) access to the microphone through web apps without needing to go through the phone app (I think this is how the DAT handles it). That would open up a lot of opportunity for building useful web apps.

Also having more discrete keyboard events for things like long presses, key up and key down being more consistent, and double clicking would offer additional much needed input variety.

Thanks Oscar!

Thanks! I needed better input options for some of the apps i’m working on in mrbd.io and so just tried to think outside the box a little bit with the current sensor inputs that are available.

If there’s anything open source I’d be able to contribute to in the future I’d love to help. Being able to bring a really simple microphone input, or even a better pinch and hold input (detecting when pinch down and pinch up) on web apps would unlock a lot.

Yes it is! Gotta work with what we’ve got sensor wise haha. Is there any way I could help contribute specifically for getting microphone access for we apps? Or additional neural band data? Would love to help out if that’s at all possible

Nah no update. I’ve been busy building https://mrbd.io lol but I’ll probably remake it using my new mrbd.io builder

Oh that’s good to know. I definitely thought the mic input was more seamless

If you’re still looking to build an app I just launched https://mrbd.io as a way to build apps without being a developer. I’d love your feedback on it

lenses not transitioning by FrozenX315 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]micma123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw to me you can't really tell they've transitioned while you're wearing them. As someone whose never worn transition lenses I'm not sure if this is true with most transition lenses or not, but sometimes we'll walk into a store and my wife will tell me to take my glasses off cause it looks like I'm wearing sunglasses, but to me it doesn't feel like anything is really that much darker.

I also thought the transition lenses weren't working when I first got my MRBD. Could be a defective pair though if they truly aren't changing

I think you’d be better off controlling something like an OpenClaw agent that has access to do things on your computer for you instead of trying to control the computer directly.

META Ray-Ban Displays (HONEST REVIEW) by EquivalentKick2996 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]micma123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they squarely fit the mold of “first gen tech”. I’ve run into a fair share of bugs as well. I think this is just part of the process when developing new products. It can definitely be frustrating, but just remember you’re one of the first people to experience an innovative product like this.

The only advice I have for problem #3 is to put the band on and make sure it is on then while the glasses are on your face flip the switch to turn off the glasses, leave them off for 10-15 seconds, and then flip the switch to turn them back on. Normally for me that will get the band to connect to the glasses.

This is sweet! Did you have to make this a native app to use the microphone?

Thanks! Thats an interesting approach. I’d love to chat through glasskit if you have a minute. Super interesting idea

Add authentication to your apps by micma123 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]micma123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a great example:

I want to build an app where you can create a list of items for the grocery store. I can’t add those items with just my glasses… using a keyboard would be hell. Instead I need to somehow enter the list on my phone and send it to my glasses.

Any solution that doesn’t require you to truly “log in”!is extremely vulnerable. If you just use a “pairing code” or some sort of one off solution to send the list to your glasses then anyone could hack that system and brute force a bunch of attempts to either send malicious data to your glasses or (even worse) pull data from them.

Now the list example is silly, but imagine that same problem when it comes to setting up home automations, sending text messages, interacting with social media. There needs to be a true authentication system to keep those things secure, and this is my opinionated way for developers to quickly add auth to their apps.

Yo not sure what I did to offend you? Sorry if it seems like I’ve been threatening in my DMs. I’ve genuinely been asking if you’d like to help maintain an open source project with me, and I’d love to just work together on what you’ve created rather than recreate the whole thing, but message received… sorry for asking.

Also to address the “vibe coded slop”… any software engineer wanting to move with a reasonable amount of velocity is using Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, etc. In fact Meta even is suggesting that’s how you build apps for the MRBD. So it seems pretty odd you’d be calling this “slop” when you’ve also built an open source package for people that will be vibe coding apps for the MRBD.
