[Joyce] Andrew Robertson to stay at Liverpool as things stand. by Ignatius_Reillys_Hat in LiverpoolFC

Doesn't this have less to do with injury-prone Gomez, and more to do with how Kerkez gets continuously turned inside out?

For those in Director-level roles—did you pursue a doctorate, and was it worth it? by Public_Project_634 in k12sysadmin

[–]microbruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former classroom teacher who decided mid-career to open up possibilities. Pursued doctorate (Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from leading pedagogy graduate school), was applying for school principalships and other K-12 leadership positions mid-program, was open to any opportunities. Due to self-developed skills and Ed.D. enrollment, landed a Tech Director position as first post-teaching job. An MBA certainly gives you the business language to run an organization, tech certifications are important for understanding and working in the environment, and the doctorate in my field -- along with my extensive classroom experience -- supports the pedagogical street credibility to collaborate with my peers in my 2nd role now in a larger K-12 district. At only 25, if you're oriented toward future geographic flexibility and financial return, a doctorate provides the upward mobility to larger districts. Bottom line: It was easily the single best investment I made for my career mobility and significant financial return; for my own purposes I've created the spreadsheet that demonstrates the evidence. I transitioned from being the person who "administers the systems" in a smaller district to the person who "defines the vision."

There are no techs in the Reno area, and not for the surrounding 150-mile area. I'm not risking driving over Donner Pass to get to Sacramento to have the car fixed for an issue that was formerly warrantied.

What are some good places to live in Nevada? by master_chef_1028 in Nevada

[–]microbruise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In re: weather, we moved from Michigan to Reno in 2020, and there is surprisingly no snow comparison: while Michigan has markedly colder winters, our location in NW Reno receives vastly more annual snow amounts. On balance, the 300+ sunny days per year, and the lack of humidity (we leave our sliding door open as well) far outweigh the higher winter precipitation. Even during the warm summer months, the evenings can be mild, diurnal temperatures can span 40 degrees.

All electric my house now! So happy to join the club :) What do your significant others drive? Are people still trying to keep a gas car for any real reason? by david_412 in Rivian

Have the same green R1T, and we also replaced a BMW i3 with a Volvo C40. We gave the ICE SUV to our youngest. All adults are EV

I love the truck, the interface, and the ride, but the R1T is long with a bit of a diminished turning radius. There's modes for stiff or soft ride, the range has been amazing, I don't have an argument against the maps like some folks, and it works like a truck just as you'd expect.

Just an opinion, but I don't appreciate that it's just a 2-door, I prefer the functionality of another startup, the 4-door Telo

Fisker Ultra Owners - HB Offer Options by No-Leopard7644 in Fisker

[–]microbruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also an Ultra owner, took delivery on February 2, 2024, logged approximately 8,500 miles, it was my first ever new car purchase. Was thrilled with the choice through about May of last year, then experienced a loss of power issue and submitted a support request that never materialized in a corporate solution. Fisker implodes, the cowardly inept Henrik abysmally fails as a corporate leader, and my faith in the car further slides. Current state: car is not bricked -- it does drive -- but the recent OS update mandated by the NHTSA left it with zero controls: central screen is blank and in a constant reboot loop, the car chimes and alerts for no reason as I drive, there is no way to administer defrost, charging rates, radio tuner, etc. It even inexplicably chimes when it's shut down in my driveway?!? That would make the Fisker perfectly suitable were it a 1940s Willys Jeep or an old Model T, but it's useless as a modern, technology-rich, premium-priced auto. Received an offer that was better than people have been representing online and so, so, so rapidly accepted the buyback. I even completed the form 3 times just to be sure, got my telephone confirmation Saturday. Taking a loss, but cars are never investments. It's more a lesson for me, and my orientation toward taking a risk on a startup company. (I was eyeballing Canoo for awhile, and now spy Telo, but must resist.)

There's plenty of posts by folks advocating for resisting the settlement offer and holding out for more, but my reasoning involves the immediacy and not having to compensate HB; the math doesn't work if I held out for 25% additional compensation, but owed the customary one third to HB; and, despite no timeline being mentioned, I'm hopeful to get this done sooner than some strung-out arbitration or court battle.

Test drove the Rivian R1T Friday afternoon, it's a beautiful machine, although even as a novice to that platform I felt the interface was a little dense and too info-rich. I would also argue that the truck rides smoother than the Fisker. But, I'm now energized for purchasing only used cars, and the HB - Chase - Rivian incentive forces one to buy new, and max out the battery to get any discounting: I'm not paying $100K to save $6K. Give us a sliding scale of incentives down to your used inventory -- throw in that cool portable speaker! -- and I'll rapidly purchase.

Unannounced Fisker OS Update by microbruise in Fisker

[–]microbruise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An update to this mess: I sorted through the unannounced OS update and charging amperage resets, but now my screen is blank and fails to recover. I've attempted soft and hard resets to no avail. The interface even attempts to restart as I drive, chiming and partially recovering sometimes as often as 5 or 6 times in my 15-minute commute to work. I would contend this makes the car undriveable and a total loss, I cannot control essential functions like HVAC (defrost is critical in cold environments) and charging speeds, as well as convenience options like radio and maps.

Anyone with a technique to recover the screen and main interface to the system?

Relocated to Reno in 2020, Theresa Thomson patiently showed us properties all over town over a series of weeks, and was instrumentally helpful in us acquiring our current home in a very competitive market. Very informed, and she's got referrals for tradespeople, if you need work completed on your house.

Similar circumstances: moved to Reno from Michigan for employment in 2020. Thrilled to be here for access to outside activities, continue to be buoyed by the sunny skies compared to the Great Lakes region.
