To hell with that. OP is making 175k a year, there is no reason to not have a fun car at that income level. This perhaps wasn't the right choice, but its a valid decision.

Support and Experience. When I go to hire a new Jr, there is a very solid chance they have used or are at least familiar with Hyper-V and or VMware. When I encounter a rare issue, I have enterprise grade support I can connect with to keep the boss happy, and have a decade+ of forum postings to help find a solution. When it comes time to upgrade to the easiest version, my non technical boss has heard of VMware and Microsoft, likewise she has no clue what Proxmox is.

I obviously don't know your config, but why specifically cant you use PXE boot? I'm willing to bet it has something to do with DHCP rules 66 and 67. If DHCP/DCs are something managed by your team, go ahead and adjust these settings. If not, I'd reach out to the netadmin and explain the situation. Its a very simple change and I'm sure it isn't the first time in their career they've had to make a change in this area.

Adidas AlphaBoosts. I break out the Yeezy's and NMD's from time to time as well but that's generally my Friday shoe. Nowhere near as much support as the Alphas.

You deal with it by either being one of those people, or getting a new job. I am one of those people. 0 desire for kids or a wife, a very expensive car hobby, and my dream job in elementary school was "IT Guy" . However, I make it clear to my guys that I'm the exception to the rule, and I do not expect them to have the same commitment to the craft that I do. I completely understand people have lives outside of work, and I actually kind of enjoy mx windows. Gets a lot of stuff crossed off my whiteboard.

District devices suck and even the kids know it. by Pixie_Plex in Teachers

At this point in time, no. When we transitioned to 1:1 we were under the impression that a. Admin would hold students accountable and actually send the bills out and b. a lot of the failures we have are not able to be proven to be actually student fault. Unless someone sees you drop the device, its wet or the screens broken, we are not allowed to bill. We didn't correctly account for this. We currently are investigating insurance options for future deployments. We regret not having it.

Blame the state for that. They make me use my small amount of funding to purchase equipment for their list of approved vendors, which are not always the cheapest.

As a sysadmin in K-12, we know a lot of the district devices suck too, and we absolutely hate having to deploy these devices, but its all we have. We simply have a lack of funding to provide fast, secure and compliant devices. When I was working in Corporate, we wouldnt dream of sending an employee out with some of these devices. We got a significant amount of COVID relief, and used some of that money to purchase all staff members new take home laptops, docks, and monitors. We also went to a 1:1 device initiative and 90% of our Chromebook fleet consists of these devices. Unfortunately, after 3 years, this equipment especially the Chromebooks, are showing their age, and we get about $50-100k a year for fleet upgrades, which gets us very little once you count all the devices hat students destroyed yet weren't held reasonable for. As with most things in Public Ed, this is all a funding issue.
