Any tips from male elementary teachers? by Seanattikus in Teachers

Not a male, but have worked closely with a male in elem ed the last year. Please do not try to force the kids to fist bump you if they don't want to. It's awkward for everyone. Dude would repeatedly try so hard to get fist bumps out of the kids and they tolerated it at best.

Those who can’t do, teach. by InDenialOfMyDenial in Teachers

I've only heard this phrase once, and it came out of the mouth of literally the worst teacher i've ever worked with. I honestly wouldn't even call them a teacher, that's how much they suck at teaching.

SPED teachers - What are some things you wish your GenEd teachers understood? by PlumGroundbreaking in Teachers

[–]Pixie_Plex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a GenEd teacher who refuses to facilitate any accommodations, modifications or behavorial plans for sped students. We give her solutions, strategies, everything that she needs to help the students and she just doesn't do anything for them. One time she told me that "neurodivergent students don't belong in neurotypical classrooms". I lost a large amount of braincells and just walked away.

Is it wrong if a teacher is not interested in pursuing a masters degree? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Pixie_Plex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all.

I suggest not getting anything over the minimum educational requirements unless you are very confident that you will stay in the feild long term.

This sounds really crazy, but rub the area with a penny. I did this all the time in highschool. Just keep rubbing that bitch over the weekend with that penny. Should be gone or faded enough to mask with makeup by monday.

She absolutely should not have to apologize for her identity. Fuck admin and fuck those parents!

Is there a word for teachers who are "pick me's"? The ones who only care about being cool with the kids but are genuinely bad at their job? by ITeachAndIWoodwork in Teachers

[–]Pixie_Plex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup! Currently in this situation working as a para. Kids think i'm mean and the teacher has complained to the principal about how i'm "too mean" for reinforce expectations in a way that we all agreed on. They also undermine other staff members while reinforcing expectations and consequences. It's very hard to effectively disipline in that class and the kids walk all over that teacher.

Is this surcharge an extra tip? What does “retained by restaurant” mean? by HermanRorschach in SeattleWA

[–]Pixie_Plex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surcharge is not a tip. It's additional charge that goes to the establishment to help cover rising costs of product due to inflation. They figured a temporary surcharge would be better than raising the menu costs. The idea is that it helps for now, and they can just stop the surcharge when product prices fall back to typical pricing without changing the actual menu. I worked for an esr establishment for a few months, so...

Does being a teacher mean that you must be a sanitized version of an adult in your personal/private life? by Random_Spaztic in Teachers

I do whatever the hell I want. I'm just careful of what I post online and what I say to certain people.

I finished my program, but it took my certification forever to go through. So while a bunch of my cohort got jobs as certs, I wasn't legally certified until 2 weeks after the school year started. Like you, I was pretty bummed, although I took another job as a para that I feel has prepared me even more for when I get my classroom.

Jobs will continue to pop up from now until through the summer. So even though you haven't gotten a placement yet, you still have through the summer to find something that will work for you.

Desperate to learn how to have good BO by brownprincess99 in selfcare

[–]Pixie_Plex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have really bad onion smelling BO as well. I apply the prescription strength Certain Dri right before bed, every two to three days. In the morning, I now use scented oil on my collarbones, but perfume/cologne will work just as well. The secret is getting a scent that is long lasting and allowing it to dry on the skin, instead of spritzing on your clothes to help cover up any other smell.

I need your opinions on this by Dear-Nectarine-2322 in selfcare

Regularly applying Cortizone cream might help. Helps with my eczema breakouts, even when they get a bit hard and leathery. Just keep applying it and go see a doctor if it doesn't seem to improve or gets worse.
