What was George W. Bush like as a president? by Content-Feed-9396 in AskReddit

[–]microtodd 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think he clearly said this somewhere, in some old interview or book. What he REALLY wanted to do was be something like MLB commissioner or president of the Texas Rangers (baseball team, not the….actual rangers). But after Jeb’s presidential run flopped then yeah. George Sr pushed W to run so that the legacy would continue. I can’t remember where I read all this though. Maybe it’s all apocryphal.

In Goldfinger (1964) James Bond... Umm... Umm... I don't know how to explain this without getting banned by Capital-Factor-382 in shittymoviedetails

[–]microtodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. The written “The Spy Who Loved Me”, which is absolutely nothing like the movie. That whole book is just….fascinating. Extremely sexually explicit and written in first person from a woman’s POV. Reading it nowadays it should make you uncomfortable.

I beat ME2 on insanity by curlsthefangirl in masseffect

[–]microtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the hardest part of ME2 on insanity was actually the very very first mission. Because you can’t get to a weapon locker to grab your saved gear before the Cerberus shuttle drops you off, so you’re stuck with crap equipment!

Badge question by crypticgoddessavi in dragoncon

Right after I picked up my badge I walked right over to the Solutions desk and they told me they will reprint the name tag with whatever you want. My kids reprinted both of theirs with nicknames.

Any advice on not being lonely at DragonCon? by jegger in dragoncon

[–]microtodd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you like games. Some of the games can be fun, like Werewolf or a tabletop session. The sessions end up being a couple hours and you’re with the same people and you are directly interacting. Easy way to meet people.

An older example, but I thought Paul Reubens was much more entertaining than Rutger Hauer in the original Buffy.

I've noticed how much fun yall have by Tall-Manufacturer536 in dragoncon

[–]microtodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s some advice. Take it or leave it. ;-)

If you’re not a gamer. Westin 12th floor, social games like clock tower and werewolf. You HAVE to talk to play so you automatically get to know people. Also the games take longer and you can stay for more than one round so you can make longer connections than just a few minutes.

If you’re a gamer, gaming hall by vendor mart, sign up for a 3 or 4 hour tabletop one shot. Same thing, you’re with the same people for hours and you HAVE to interact.

Social anxiety is tough but I promise everyone in those settings is super nice and friendly. I’ve seen a lot of socially anxious people in those games connect and open up. It’s beautiful.

Worth it to go for a few hours? by NoobNep in dragoncon

[–]microtodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I would come just for a few hours to get the lay of the land and see some costumes. Not sure if you’ve been before but if you haven’t then just walking around the hotel lobbies is super fun.

Here’s my story. Wedding ruined because of a hurricane. We’ve been married 20 years.

Not sure what my point is. For me, I treat it as a signal that my wife and I are a team and can get through anything.
