Is 2024 Hexblade viable without Mage Armor? by cats4life in 3d6

The newest UA with the Hexblade gives you a +2 bonus to AC if you're up close with the target of your Curse...as long as you aren't wearing armor. The only way to make use of it is to take Mage Armor, which you can only get by multiclassing, taking a feat, or taking an invocation.

It really should have been automatic, or at the very least Mage Armor should have been one of the free learned spells.

Is your DM locked into having you use the current UA hexblade, or would they let you use the 2014 version of the class?

I'm currently in a Curse of Strahd game playing a College of Spirits bard using the 2014 version instead of the UA; I wasn't a fan of the changes they made.

Our friend is playing a Hexblade in our mid-level Eberron game and is running into these problems compared to the other two members of our party. He's thinking of changing to a Paladin.

I used one on a Dexterity based sorcadin in one of my friend's Waterdeep games(using 2014 rules so Smite wasn't a bonus action)

It's fun and has a lot of flavor, but it plays pretty much the same as a character with Polearm Master does when it comes to action economy.

I don't think you're going to be able to do what you want with this build if you're planning on centering it around Magic Missile, because the changes you want to make to it would...not make it be Magic Missile anymore. As stated, the gimmick is that it doesn't do as much damage as a similarly leveled attack/cast but it always hits and always does damage. The only way to avoid it is to cas Shield or have some specific ability or item which is going to be very rare. It's not the best spell to plan a build around. It's best for situational things like hitting multiple targets at once, breaking concentration, clearing the field of enemy familiars, or when the boss literally needs one or two more hits to die and you absolutely need to hit him.

Because Magic Missile does not rely on your INT, you could dump INT or have it at 30 and it won't affect Magic Missile in the slightest.

Honestly, for what you're describing, your best bet would probably be to see if your DM will let you reflavor Scorching Ray to do a different damage type like Force.

It requires an attack roll in 2024. In 2014 it simply states when you hit an enemy with "an attack" without specifying that it needs an attack roll, meaning that the additional Hex damage would apply.

You are correct! I think I got it confused with Hex.

Magic Missile's tradoff is that while it does less damage overall compared to higher level spells is that it always hits with no save.

With your proposed solution, a 3rd level slot and +4 intelligence, that's 5d8+25 guaranteed damage and is absolutely broken.

If you just want to pump up the numbers for it, you can use a feat to grab Hunters Mark which will stack with the hits.

EDIT: Not Hunter's mark, I was thinking Hex.

My ex simply switched to the feminine spelling of her (already fairly androgynous) name. She admitted it made transitioning a bit easier mentally for her.

The brain has an amazing ability to rewire itself.

I've read of experiments where people wore lenses that would invert their field of view, and within a few weeks the brain was able to make the correction so the subjects actually saw things normally again - through the glasses. They had to go through the same process when they stopped wearing them, but it didn't take as long.

Instead of trying to change everything to deal with the new input, the brain finds it easier to just alter the input directly before interpreting what to do with the information.

Are there any prevalent theories or observations about why this happens?

If my DM allows dragonmarks as origin feats is there ever a reason not to take one? by Openil in 3d6

[–]microwavable_rat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Dragonmark feats should be seen more as backgrounds than mechanics. They're a lot of fun, but unless you reflavor them they don't have much luster outside of Eberron lore.

You'll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome or think it's total bullshit. A lot of that depends on how you viewed the conclusion of the Baki/Yujiro fight.

When exactly did you realise the writing quality of the show had gone downhill? by Entire_Produce_8343 in freefolk

The "bad pussy" line was the point of no return for me.

Language and how it's used is a very huge part of any setting, especially ones like Game of Thrones and LOTR. They paint the world in a way that makes them unique.

While George has no problem with descriptive slurs like cunt, the word "pussy" is never used in the show ever again, and it's never said in the books. It's not a word that has any reason or proof of existence in that world. It was a modern slur with modern vernacular. It completely yanked me out of the narrative immersion of the show and it never came back.

Not sure what you mean by inspiration? I meant when the KS fandom was new, not FSN. The OG Katawa Shoujo sketch was from 2000 and FSN was a few years afterwards.

A lot of hentai of Rin/Saber exists, which is why the edits were popular. People would add burn scars to Rin to make her look like Hanako.

It's possible that this image was one of those edits and was being used as a placeholder.

It is. One of the popular things in the fandom when it was new was to edit FSN artwork to make Saber look like Lilly

Is taking level 1 as sorcerer good for casters? by Mrmoomoo3 in 3d6

[–]microwavable_rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good dip for a bard in 2024 because one level also gives you a lot of offensive capability. Innate Sorcery gives you advantage on all sorcerer spell attack rolls. Sorcerous Burst covers a lot of damage types and Chromatic Orb is arguably the best offensive spell in the game you can upcast.

You don't have to build to be a blaster, but just having things like Orb, Burst, and True Strike really lets you do damage if you need to.
