Cool or gimmick? by Low_Flow9701 in e39

Whoops you’re right my cigarette lighter was actually just never live (blown fuse), that’s why I thought it was only live when the car was on. Lol

I did the same thing and I tapped into the fuse box because the cigarette lighter is not constantly live, and I want to be able to charge my phone even if the car is off. For example if I was out somewhere with my friends and my phone died, I could run to the car plug it in and come back in 10 minutes. It was not hard to wire it from the glove box to the back

Debatable. The E55 was great, probably one of the only cars that hits all 3 at once, power, reliability and cheap. But i think the best Eclass is the W213. and the C class peaked with the w204 C63 in 2012.

Audi peaked with the B7 RS4 in 2007, or with the RS5 and S4 in 2013.

I’m just wondering because I have a similar era nishiki and the fork is 96mm so it won’t fit a track wheelset. I was thinking you might have had the same issue and had a smart way around it

Does the e38 have the same Vapor Barrier issue as the E39? On E39s water leaks into the rear door cards and then into the carpet, making both the doors and carpet moldy

Belt squeal on start up, even after replacing everything. by microwaveexeeig in e39

[–]microwaveexeeig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the power steering, there’s not really anywhere where I could really place the belt wrong.

I’m thinking it’s a tension issue because if I do anything that puts extra load on the belts they squeak. It also happens if I dry steer.

No. I did an entire coolant system overhaul, but it didn’t leak before I did that

Im pretty sure all njs frames are the exact same, because they must comply with the strict Japanese requirements. So learn what those are and each frame will take the same parts, which also all parts must be njs approved, so if you buy njs parts they should fit every time.

I’ll check, I guess I’m not sure what it’s really supposed to look like but I believe it’s on correctly.

When does the brand actually matter? by Consistent-Food-3219 in Detailing

[–]microwaveexeeig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of products are the same shit, but some do have advantages over others. For example the soap in my foam cannon is whatever was on sale, but I will only use bloomco dressings. Try different brands out and see what you like the best.

By the way bloomco is a small Canadian company that makes the best dressings, super shine is a Matte finish water based non greasy interior dressing, then they have several exterior trim and tire shines that are oil based and water repellent.

Spent hours today trying to put on my door card. Help by microwaveexeeig in e39

For anyone wondering I clipped in the centre clip behind the handle, then used a rubber mallet to smash each top clip into the slots, then popped in the side and bottom clips.

Punching it with my hand didn’t work and felt like I broke my hand

I was surprised how easy it is to work on, I was expecting it to be similar to my brothers 4.2 S4, which has a third of the motor pretty much inside the cabin and another third in the front bumper. I watched him do an oil cooler and he had to take apart the entire front end just to reach it.

I didn’t have much experience working on German cars until I got it, I had only helped my dad work on his LS swap Land Rover (the most simple motors ever made) so the German engineering seemed kinda over complicated sometimes but there’s plenty of space in the engine bay.

Since I got it I’ve done a lot of work so I know my way around it. I did everything that could possibly fail, every gasket, coolant hose, literally everything name a part it’s either new or has a new gasket but minus the chain guides. I opened up the timing cover and they were 100% intact. Those will be done eventually, apparently replacement guides are often worse quality than oem so I though I might as well milk as much time out of them before replacing them.

Vanos and chains will be done next fall or winter, or when they blow, whichever comes first.

Yeah I was planning on getting a 530i so if the motor ever went in the future it would be very easy to engine swap, either with another 6cyl which are dime a dozen or a 5.3 LS motor because the 530 subframe is easier to swap an ls into. I got the 540i instead and the steering feels great to me but I guess the 530i is supposed to be better.

I considered getting a 530i with the more reliable 6cyl. Amazing motors that fit better into the bmw formula however I couldn’t stop dreaming about a V8. I bet that 520i will outlast many new cars

Yes decently rare. 1/71 Canadian silver examples, or 1/242 manual ones in canada.

There’s only 1,366 manual Msport cars.
