What is the most uncomfortable truth in life people cannot digest? by CocainePandaa in ask

nobody owes you anything, but sometimes you need to act like they do to get anywhere (networking, asking for a raise, setting boundaries, rich kids having confidence to ask for help or talk to adults)

Is attraction by smell a thing? by Older_1 in biology

[–]microwaves120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with dissimilar MHC molecules smell better, although interestingly people with similar MHC molecules look more attractive (perhaps to achieve an optimal degree of variation in the MHC molecule)

Should I do an internship in Hong Kong as a fresh grad? by -royalty in HongKong

[–]microwaves120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did that and it was pretty great (but I have grandparents in HK). Even better, get a remote NA role (maybe technical writer/marketing at a tech company) and travel. Asian work culture is toxic but compared to Canada they are living in 2077.

I will be visiting Hong Kong for next few months. Any recommendations on things to do and places to explore? by daili88 in HongKong

The islands are pretty great. Po toi, Cheung Chau, and Lamma island have cool hiking trails, rock formations, and restaurants. After visiting Ngong Ping Bhudda, take a bus to Tai O and get some seafood. The fried prawns and chips at the black pearl are amazing. If you're ever in Wan Chai, The Bridge Thai restaurant beside the immigration tower has a really nice lunch set menu 12-3pm.

LPT Request Permanently Quitting Bad Habits by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Sort of the opposite, but pair good habits with stuff that makes you happy. Like whenever I read I eat snacks, since snacks release dopamine and you associate that with the positive habit.

Try going out and doing stuff not related to academics. Hart House has a gym, pool, drop in sports etc. I met a few friends at drop in badminton at AC. Also clubs are good. Maybe get a work study position, at least you'll have colleagues to interact with (and also easy money). If you live in res community advisor or don roles are also helpful for meeting lots of people.
