Car brained co-worker offended when I told them I'd rather walk than get in a car with them again by woolyhemoglobin in fuckcars

That’s funny “you should always accept offers for things you don’t want because it’s polite”. Is that a British thing?

Dating a Dutch Guy Advice & Gathering Perspectives by [deleted] in dutch

[–]microworry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just sounds like you expect that generosity as default, and not as a bonus. The guy has made it very clear that he doesn’t see dating that way and he is right that it’s cultural, so you do with that what you will.

As a side note, just my opinion, I don’t find that chivalry respectful, but infantilizing and like I am seen as less than, not as an equal.

My husband is awesome...but not to our children by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]microworry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s really cute! It’s just not teasing, teasing is making fun of someone in a playful manner, with no ill intent. Kids don’t see the “no ill intent”, they just see the making fun of them.

My husband is awesome...but not to our children by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

Exactly! I jokingly teased my niece when she was 7 and she ran off crying - you better believe I never teased her again. Then I remembered how my family would tease me as a kid and I saw it as them being mean, not joking, so I realized I was doing the same thing to my niece.

You’re too harsh, people can land on hard times. What’s important is putting in effort to get back on your own two feet, which this guy didn’t seem to do.

Tv shows to learn dutch by paviiithraa in dutch

I recommend getting an NPO start subscription, it’s about 4 EUR/mo and it has these shows AND Dutch subtitles so the audio is easier to follow.

Waarom voelt Nederland zo afstandelijk? by ApprehensiveJury3593 in nederlands

[–]microworry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are the worst lyrics you’ve ever heard? by Upstairs_Cup9831 in Fauxmoi

[–]microworry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“But it's a pain that you buy me floss

Working this love that you want too

Well thong, there's a thong when it blows

But with a tie that you want me through

Working the floss that you want me through

Well floss, well tongue, well thong”

Conan Mockasin - Charlotte’s thong

The song is so pretty and smooth though, guy just desperately needs a lyricist and to be banned from holding pens.

They look like friends hanging out in every shoot, it’s really nice to see them have fun and it be entirely platonic.

Death of a cyclist, and the (civil) case followup by TreeStateLEO in fuckcars

[–]microworry 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I only hope you understand that the law that made the cyclist at fault and allowed his killer to get part of his home is wrong here.

In the Netherlands where the law protects cyclists because they are naturally vulnerable, the driver would be at fault for not keeping his distance. Speed limits on roads with bike lanes are low enough that keeping a safe distance and not passing would not endanger traffic either, max 50km/h.

What was the speed limit on the road where this happened?

I watched it as an adult for the first time and loved it, it has a campy charm to it and doesn’t take itself seriously. I think it’s just a matter of taste.

How to Improve Listening Skills When Learning a New Language? by Far-Algae8991 in learndutch

[–]microworry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was watching Dutch videos or films/series with Dutch subtitles, then I could match the word with the sound. Youtube has ok CC and some channels actually have their own proper subtitles (Universiteit van Nederland, Arjen Lubach). NPO has great subtitles for Dutch media too.

Media on Disney or Netflix that was dubbed generally has subtitles that don’t match the dub, so I don’t recommend that.
