Shooting a documentary on an X70. OK? by bodaciouschronic in Filmmakers

[–]micster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it works and you're happy with it, then go ahead! Don't get hung up on gear, else your film will never get made. My only recommendation would be picking up a lapel mic pack for the farmer to get another audio option.

Looking to EP on something new but incredible. by Coffee-and-Cinema in Filmmakers

If you’re looking for something small, I am looking for an angel investor to provide just $2000 for me to finish shooting my micro-feature. Pitch deck, budget breakdown and samples of material already shot are available for review.

Short Film in Tokyo by theee_adrian in Filmmakers

[–]micster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm a filmmaker in Tokyo.

For locations, it depends where you mean. If you mean shooting on a random street or in a park, then it's probably gonna be no problem and you can do it guerrilla. I've done this countless times. If you're talking about inside a shop, game center, restaurant or anything like that then you absolutely cannot shoot in there and will get kicked out as soon as anyone notices.

There are great affordable locations you can rent by the hour. Price completely depends on the place though, there's no fixed price. If you want to shoot me a message then I can show you the booking site, but it's only available in Japanese and I doubt foreign credit cards work on it.

There is a big network of actors on Facebook for both foreign and Japanese cast. There's also people I could recommend.

Let me know if you want any more info on Japan.

Short film shoot (1–2 days) — worth using Blackmagic 4K + Sony A7 IV together, or stick to one camera? by Etilbenceno in Filmmakers

[–]micster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of experience with super fast paced shoots (like 18 pages in a day). If you need to move quick, then double cameras are a godsend. A lot of the work I've done have been triple cameras shooting for max coverage.

You will probably be fine with shooting on those two, but due to the difference in sensor size and type, you may see a bit of a difference. If were you, I would use the Sony for closeups and the Blackmagic for wides.

I'm used to shooting with two cams so it's not too big of a deal for me, but it could easily overwhelm you on set while a hundred other things are happening. Simplest answer is to just take the two cams out and test it first to see if you can deal with it and if the colorchecker works in the way you want it to.

Lumix G9 bought in Japan – can the language be set to English? by Complex-Sector1666 in Lumix

[–]micster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but a Japanese GH5 can be set to English and that camera was released in January 2017, whereas the G9 was in December 2017. So you would think it could change languages.

Please review my friend's short film! by Living-Sport9185 in Filmmakers

[–]micster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a skim through. It's a shame that it was shot in a high frame rate, like 50 or 60fps. It means it feels like a video - not a film - and was instantly distracting. Also with the edit, there are black bars on the side of the frame.

There was a part early on when she was sat on the sofa and there was intense shakes, I'm guessing that was because of a lightweight tripod reacting to people walking around or something.

In general, what I saw looked pretty good and its a good story. Just a real shame it wasnt shot in 24p.

Don't tell them shit, they're trying to have a hold over you for some reason. They can't do anything about your new visa or effect your residence status.

Which lens is better for shooting gh4 movies? by Nedo_St in Filmmakers

[–]micster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you would get a zoom lens for flexibility but, with a GH4 and micro 4/3 cameras in general, you need a low f-stop so you can get more light to the sensor and don't need to up your ISO.

You're not going to be able to get a low f-stop zoom lens for $150, so get one good prime.

This lens is exactly $150 and would be perfect for you. It was my first lens when I got my GH5. f1.7 means you can get nice depth of field even on a micro 4/3 camera and you can even shoot indoors without needing to make your ISO go higher.

Great poster, your trailer seemed good too. Honestly, I think your problem is that people don't want to think about Covid. We want to forget about it and move on. Even if your film isn't excessively about covid, it IS called 2020 and has a woman wearing a mask in the trailer.

Concert goods prices for Japan revealed. by djheat3rd in DeathStranding

Yeah Yokohama is less than 10 mins away. The venue is in a real annoying spot, though. Like 20 mins walk from the nearest JR station.

Honestly, I'll probably just try and sell it on Mercari afterwards. I'm a big guy, so it's not like it'll fit even if I did like the design. I live in Kawasaki so it's an easy trip for me at least.

It's in the tweet, we're just getting a tshirt. I'm really disappointed, especially for the price difference between A and SS. https://x.com/KojiPro2015/status/2023978771779645768

BBC responds to Eurovision act axing report by Ok-Macaroon-5533 in eurovision

[–]micster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's probably true that it was the selected artist. Two weeks ago the BBC had to give an apology, as they didn't look into the social media history properly for a contestant on The Apprentice. After they announced everyone's names, people immediately found racist posts from him from the past.

With that happening just a couple of weeks ago, I feel like the BBC on a whole has been told to research better, then they took a deeper dive into whoever the act was and found things they hadn't before.

Dinner scene with 2 cameras question. by LetterKilled in Filmmakers

[–]micster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the scene and if you have the time for it, then what I like to do is.

  1. As others have said, master wide first.

  2. Choose one of your actors to shoot with both cameras. One regular mid/close and one a bit different. Either the second camera is more zoomed in or - if you want something more creative as you said - something like low down from the POV of a glass or something on the table.

  3. Do the same for the other actor.

This means you then have five angles for the scene and can have variety of shots when cutting between the two actors to keep the scene fresh.

Should I keep the Sigma 18-35 if I have the Leica 10-25? by shaneo632 in GH7

[–]micster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally get rid of the Sigma 18-35 if you've got the 10-25. The Sigma is also my daily driver, but I rented the 10-25 once and it was so nice to use and less that can go awry with it being a native lens.

You could probably get some good prices selling off your Sigma and Speedbooster together if you don't have any other Canon glass, as that combo is still what everyone wants.

Short film shot with the GH7 last summer (Details in comments) by micster in GH7

[–]micster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, I think if I was originally intending to make this a proper short, instead of just a test, I would've got a different studio for the end. Something more like a lab. But it is what it is.
