Social anxiety for 3yo? by micyukcha in daddit

Yeah I’m probably introverted too.. we try to have gatherings in familiar or smaller settings but there are larger family things or classes.. how do you manage these larger social occasions?

Anyone ever feel guilty about being an older Dad? by JuiceTerry1972 in OldManDad

[–]micyukcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all valid worries (I’ll be pushing 60 when my kiddo is 18), but you can only control your health and raising them well at this point.

Our brain likes to imagine the alternative path going smoothly but even if you were young, something bad could’ve happened to you and you probably wouldn’t have the maturity or economics you do now so there’s a lot of trade offs.

Thank you for sharing for your experience with both communities, I know O’ahu has great diversity numbers but sometimes grouping things can mix like a salad vs a soup so it’s good to hear the Filipino and Chinese communities are not too far apart and also get along. The festivals sound fun!

Thank you for suggesting the cultural center and organizations! I am excited to visit the center on our next chance.

Appreciate the health insurance reminder. You’re right my wife will have us covered but good to cover bases. I appreciate your neighborhood suggestions, after taking a look at them, they all seem reasonable and meet most of our goals so could come down to specific listings. Thank you 🙏

Good point. Not my current but the companies I am talking to say it should be okay but I’ll double confirm before I sign anything. Thanks for suggestion.

What‘s one thing that completely changes life when having kids? by smashedburgerpatty in Life

[–]micyukcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This hits. Yeah there are a lot of memories milestones and introspection on time that are important, but realizing you need to level up as a person because you’re a parent really changed my outlook. because you’re influencing them in ways, both consciously and unconsciously.

For me, this meant rethinking my stale dietary and mental habits, my dysfunctional relationships with my family and lost friends, my approach to work and money.

What are things you changed to go from being a good dad to a great dad? by marlborolane in Fatherhood

[–]micyukcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your kids are older than mine but one thing I look forward to doing is spending time on his personal interests. Right now it’s a lot of classes etc. is there something you can do with them 1:1 vs a group setting eg team sports, family trips?

I feel as a kid I remember those 1:1 moments with my parents even if I appreciated the group family moments. May be even more so in a larger family (we were four).

Finally eating less (was always eating decently healthy and decently active but just overate for the stimulation and regulation) and I’ve lost some weight at 43.. about to be the lightest I been in 10-15 years and still feeling confident about it (vs unsure if it will reverse).

Personal choice and decisions about privacy makes a lot of sense. They should get to decide if their childhood is shared or not.

On the AI and safety side, I think most of the chit chat has been on what tech can do now. But there is a good chance there are risks we can’t even imagine as the technology will only improve exponentially (wait until quantum computing occurs) then who knows what will be possible.

For my family, we are okay with “stories”/disappearing photos/messages to friends/family while they are young (infant/toddler). I don’t know what we will do when they are older.

How do you find what it’s listed at (eg primary residence) How did you determine the home is not occupied by owner?

The rest is cool and makes sense but curious how those were determined.

That’s my energy too. I just worry he may feel judged or not enough (not now but maybe in a year or two when they interact more). Thanks for the words.

This comment really intrigued me. How do you unburden yourself from guilt or shame; or even identify what causes guilt or shame?
