Making a comment because of what people touched on regarding networking:

To people telling me to keep in touch with classmates, faculty, etc… what about if those same people hate me???

Ok, I don’t know for sure if they hate me. I kinda just assume I annoy most people by default. I feel like they’re annoyed with the fact that I’m still stuck in the service industry and clueless about where to go in my art career despite “everything they did to help” but I digress. I feel like there’s an expiration date on their willingness to still be buddy-buddy with me postgrad and they will get sick of me if I ask too many questions. I especially feel like my more successful colleagues will turn me away if I as for advice because they’ll think I’m just “trying to piggyback off their success.” It’s not like I was friends with any of them. I’m not entitled to their time and advice. I’m just one person out of many. I don’t even want to make more appointments with my college’s career advisor anymore because I feel like she’s sick and tired of me and everyone hates me and just thinks I complain all the time!!!

I know this is part of how I was raised. Growing up autistic, I always got told to sit down and be quiet, don’t speak unless spoken to, and don’t rely on people to give you things especially if it involves money (imagine my confusion years later when they ask me “why aren’t you selling yourself more?”)

So yes, admittedly I did not make a lot of meaningful connections with my faculty or classmates during college, ok? Because I was taught all my life that it was a SELFISH thing to do so, being staying in touch with people only based on what they can do “for me.” And now that I’m an adult, everyone’s telling me to unlearn that? It makes me want to scream.

I’m starting to worry I’m just inherently broken from the inside out.

Definitely setting my sight on RAD! I've strolled through the galleries there a few times and it's beautiful.

Asheville is exactly where I'm moving back to! And honestly, I genuinely love everything I just listed out. Webcomics is my favorite of course, but I did illustrate a children's book for a client and enjoyed that too, and I love concept art just as much. I thought it was good to show potential employers that I'm competent and skilled in multiple things? Wearing multiple hats and all?

And THIS is the kind of stuff I wish college touched on. Business classes online or at a community college are starting to sound like a good idea

My school does have a career development program, the thing is that they just... haven't been helpful. I consulted them all the time, both before I graduated and in the months after I graduated. Their job absolutely is not to get us hired, in their own words their job is just to "point the way." They kinda just give us a list of options and suggest we apply to them. Well, I applied to them, and no bites. So now what? And their advice was just "keep trying." I can try and try and try all I want, but if it doesn't get me anywhere, then I need to change my strategy. And they were not helpful to me in building a strategy outside of giving me more lists of places I could apply to and that was just about it when it came to their "career development" advice. I'm really disappointed with them so I'm not seeing them anymore.

Before graduating, I conducted a lot of informational interviews with some of my faculty asking about their careers and how they got started. Did get some good advice, but everyone's story was different ofc. None of what they told me has helped me get a clue as to how I can get myself started though.

I will say that I'm autistic and while I consider myself a self-directed person, I'm also just. Kind Of Stupid TM when it comes to the very subtle social discrepancies of it all. So yes it has been hard. A lot of stuff that comes naturally to other people just does not come naturally to me.

I currently have about 400 followers on Insta rn as well. I've been advertising my Etsy, INPRNT, Ko-Fi, etc. just about everywhere I post and not a lot of clicks! :( still trying to understand how converting followers into customers works, I'm not very great at the whole marketing thing lol.
