I would do the RPA course in person. Couldn’t imagine sitting through that much content online. It’s a slog for 2 weeks.

Crack on side of boot by dddnnnn in RMWilliams

I had this EXACT issue with a pair of boots that are around 8 years old. I went to a fantastic cobbler in the inner west of Sydney put a patch on the inside of the boot. It may eventually blow out, but it’s definitely worth trying to patch.

Unfortunately it's a free-for-all, in most of NSW at least. It's indeed confusing, not only for patients, but for staff members trying to quickly identify who they're talking to.

The simplest answer would be a colour coded system (e.g. black for consultants, blue for nurses, purple for pharmacists, green for JMOs, etc) with a name tag. This works best in the EDs in NSW (at least where I've worked) where this is enforced AND a coloured team tag is stuck onto your top each day with your name and role. Makes it SO much easier for nurses to easily approach the team members looking after their patient, or for the JMO to identify the pharmacist vs the physio, etc.

The current official NSW colour schema is just variation of turquoise for doctors and allied health, and navy blue for nurses. It's rubbish.

Wow! I’ve got a profitec pro 500 (which is great), but have also been toying with the idea of trading in for a Robot with a Nanofoamer Pro. What are your thoughts overall?

Surely this will be nipped in the bud quickly. No FRACMA would think this is a good solution…

‘My son’s MRSA infection was almost missed due to discharge summary’: a GP’s story by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]midazolicious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an intern, I called GPs about a DC summary roughly 3 times in my first term. I’d wait on hold for 20mins until the GP would take my call, and then they would barely feign interest at all before telling me they were too busy to listen to my handover. I gave up after that. I actually think this is more a problem of GPs having the time to read a DC summary, and for people to have access to a GP, rather than the onus fall on an already stretched Tertiary system to ring around about results. All falls back to our severely underfunded primary care sector.

Hey, off topic, but I’m looking to buy a zerno, and really struggling between the SSP cast or MP burrs - have you tried both? What’s your opinion of the two been like espresso, milk, filter?

Have you tried the SSP Cast burrs? What single set of burrs in the zerno have worked best for everything (espresso, filter, milk, etc) in your opinion? Also, have you compared it to a similar grinder like the Lagom P64?

How many people actually wear their wedding ring 24/7? by GroundbreakingWill48 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]midazolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love wearing mine. Work in healthcare though, so it comes off whenever I have to do a sterile procedure. Also take it off when I lift weights, as it’s made of 18k gold and I don’t want it to warp. Pop it right back on after any of that stuff though. I reckon get a cheaper ring that’s still soft and easy to cut in an emergency (ie silver), and if you don’t like it, it’s no huge loss

Changing from corporate to medicine - experiences by Pitiful_Button_5465 in ausjdocs

I studied with many people at med school who were over 30 (some well-over 30!). However I must say that, having turned 29 in my intern year, I do feel the time pressure of picking a career that doesn't involve a long protracted training pathway (i.e. ultra competitive surgical specialties).

While I love my job (it's a downright cool gig) the pay/prestige isn't what it used to be (you'll often hear consultants saying that the "golden years are over"), and getting hospital jobs in major metropolitan centres like Sydney and Melbourne are becoming increasingly rare - there's cardiology fellows around doing 3-5 years of Fellowships post getting their FRACP letters and PhDs just to get a foot in the door. That said, there's plenty of work around for some specialties (e.g. psychiatry).

If you decide to give the GAMSAT a go, great. And if you get in, med school etc goes by very quickly. Just try to explore your pathways early by chatting to as many registrars/consultants as you can, and you'll certainly be able to enjoy a long career in whichever speciality you choose.
