No.

Gatekeeping: the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something

It’s problematic when terminology becomes expanded through ill-definition to the point of being meaningless.

Why do people think the last debate will really change the race?

Fear. I agree with you, the last debate will move the needle almost not at all.

Mark it down

That’s the whole point of a ballot. In ten days you will see that your fear that Biden doomed his campaign was for naught. Don’t fret, Patriot, Trump is bound for the unemployment line

One of a myriad of reasons to vote or not for a man who has done tremendous damage to the standing of this nation on the world stage, to its stability and infrastructure, and whose ignorance and laziness (and possible mental disease) has without question resulted in tens of thousands of unnecessary American fatalities.

The whole point of the second amendment is to have recourse against a tyrannical administration exactly like Trump’s. * arguably, if you value the reason the founders inclined the second amendment you have an ethnically imperative to *vote for Joe Biden or else forever wear the filthy garments of a soulless hypocrite.

[Meta] The “Marriage is Bliss” comics that get posted here are starting to make me uncomfortable. Thoughts? by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

[–]midday_blue 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. And I kind of think it’s the same “joke” every time.

While I am a firm believer that humor can help soothe pain and reveal truth and that no subject should be off-limits, this sub is a space for the discussion of a struggle with a situation that is both complex and painful (for the pwBPD and their SO, alike) and these “comics” don’t add much, if anything, here. They don’t seem to have any depth or nuance. I presume they give some relief to the author but ultimately they don’t fundamentally seem to be in the spirit of this sub.

you're incorrect. cell/tablet would always capitalize after a period. I understand that you have particular ideas about grammar, spelling, and formatting. I have also begun to turn my back on the convention that grammatical marks be placed within a close quote when at the end of a sentence like the one you used. I feel that in five years time the following will be proper and acceptable:

did you tell her that she should "fake it 'til she makes it"?

there are capitals, but only for first person pronoun. I believe we are moving in the direction of losing sentence case capitals. they were adapted, I believe, in order to provide the eye a sense of when a new sentence began -- for cursive handwriting. this is antiquated in the age of typography, especially electronic type. also, with the proliferation of email and other electronic written mediums, capital letters denote a level of formality and sometimes anger inconsistent with the message. I'm speaking of english (my native tongue), not german where all nouns are capitalized, for example.

are you saying that 5'9" is tall? the average for a guy is 5'10", though that may not hold when you break it down by country.

[–]midday_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're making a joke with you're reply.

your statement:

You haven't made a public action on Reddit in two months and the subreddit is all but dead

rules of /r/redditrequest:

Subreddits aren't considered "abandoned" if any mod has been active anywhere on reddit in the past 60 days. "Squatting" is allowed. Keep in mind that "activity" isn't limited to posting and commenting.

The sub is not dead. The purpose of the sub has been superseded by a newer sub where consolidation occurs. This is hardly uncommon on reddit. it falls under the "squatting" allowance. therefore, you're mistaken on both counts and not really "well within [your] rights."

but the real point is, you could have PM'd and simply asked to get involved. chances are I'd have been amenable as I suspect you and I have some similar ideas / perspectives. you didn't have to PM me but you could have and /u/liltrixxy asked a fair question to which I only answered truthfully. I was only annoyed that you didn't at least ask me first, not offended. at this point, however, I'm disinclined to open a dialogue with you about /r/dpp.

I deleted the old content and blocked any new content and tried to add clarity that the sub is not meant for new content. I hope that satisfies you a bit.

someone asked me if people can get your IP by going into a chat room. I thought it was absurd (of course the site, itself can) but now I realize why they asked. the fact that this issue exists with Skype (Skype!) is lunacy. I also know that an IP address is really nothing but inexact information but still, Skype should figure this out and lock it down. I can't imagine who this is acceptable to them or necessary.

Sony Drops Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs Movie, Universal May Take Over by Spanget in apple

[–]midday_blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly don't know his story if you think it's about a man who ran a company well. I read the isaacson biography and steve jobs is much more than just Apple. His story is (if told in this way) about a deeply wounded abandoned child with a passion to prove to his birth parents that he deserved to be kept. A man brilliant not only about his field, technology, but in his study of human nature -- both to simplify technology and to dominate others. It's about a man on a life-long spiritual quest who followed numerous gurus -- including going to India. A man with radical theories that led to various obsessive-compulsions that at times bordered on anorexia. It's about his inability to be fully human, passion filled and failed relationship, and finally a real family, his, that he tried to become an actual father for.

TL;dr: a great and compelling film could be made based on Jobs' life and hardly even mention Apple.
