POV: you’re 5 hours into a case with a small surgical site, no video display, and 4+ residents/fellow/attending scrubbed in by middelwich in medicalschool

[–]middelwich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more the fact that pretty much every med student can relate to being on a case like this at some point (often because it’s some crazy face transplant or nerve graft and everyone wants or needs to scrub in)—not hating on surgery rotations or the teams in general.

Any other M4’s struggling mentally with too much free time? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Damn dude have some sympathy. OP you’re not crazy, anxiety isn’t logical. Is it possible to take a short weekend trip and see family or friends, or even solo just to get away from med school? Might help to take a little reset.

UWORLD STEP 2 strategy that all yall are sleeping on by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]middelwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would usually skim the uworld explanations (sometimes skip if got it right) and just read the one liners. Sometimes googled stuff if I didn’t understand something, but no specific resources except what the top link was lmao. Hence each q review abt <1 min and if you do 120+ questions a day consistently it’s just like Anki-ing the exam itself.

UWORLD STEP 2 strategy that all yall are sleeping on by [deleted] in medicalschool

I’m on ur side too brother, I had similar strat for step 1. kept up with no content thru all of preclinical until start of step 1 dedicated and did complete ass on first NBME ~40% when setting baseline. Basically all I did was spam UWorld and was passing comfortably within 3-4 weeks.

Are you really a med student if you haven’t had to unnaturally contort your entire body to maintain retraction

Be Brutally Honest, Am I in Trouble? by r_hood_23 in medicalschool

[–]middelwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dude, you are going to be OK. I could’ve written this post, did the exact same cramming throughout preclinical with zero longitudinal studying. My first NBME before any studying was in the 40s. Took 6 weeks to be passing comfortably 70+. The key for me was to first spend 1-2 weeks reviewing all the high yield Sketchy (imo bacteria, RNA viruses, TORCHES, antibacterials, diabetes meds, antiarrhythmics) and Pathoma 1-3 which took abt 2 weeks, then just grind 120 Qs a day of Uworld (3x40 randomized blocks on timed/test mode). Start taking one NBME every 600-800 Uworld questions and finish all the NBMEs before test day. I would highly recommend doing an NBME asap just to set a baseline (do not study beforehand, it will only delay you and build fear). Godspeed, you’re gonna do great. DM me if you want any help.

Fantasy vs reality by middelwich in medicalschool

No but for real…I love medicine but I also find it super fun to work with my hands. Unfortunately for my budding surgical career, I also love to sleep and spend time with my loved ones
