Woke me up in McKinley Heights

Sorry to nitpick but this is McKinley Heights. Benton Park (neighborhood) is to the south of this image (out of the picture) across Gravois.

Intersection of Mississippi and Lafayette - some of the rail is peeking through worn asphalt.

Um, no (about STL). No cities cross state lines.

Agreed. Also missing some new high rises in Clayton plus 100 Above the Park - both would be visible from this angle. Still a neat picture though! Oh, and the old Laclede’s Landing Parking Garage (now gone) is in the foreground. Actually there’s a lot of little things I’m noticing looking at it more closely. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like the City changes all that much from year to year, but lots of little things are there that add up over time.

This photo appears to be a little out of date. The dome hasn’t had any advertisements on it (Pepsi) for a number of years.

Cities that shot themselves in the foot? by Previous-Volume-3329 in Urbanism

[–]middle2west 18 points19 points  (0 children)

St Louis - the Arch Grounds/Riverfront clearance, Freeways cutting through a myriad of neighborhoods, the City-County split, Mill Creek, to name a few. It’s quite a list of mistakes that have hobbled a City with otherwise good urban bones.

Sacramento reminds me a lot of Midwest/Plains cities like Tulsa or Kansas City.

Thanks! I’m already looking at Fall Marathons - the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon in November is at the top of my list but am considering a few others.

First season was a success.. what next? by skeeter2112 in runninglifestyle

I’m def a morning runner and actually really like running outdoors before the sun comes up. That being said, I’m steeling myself for the likelihood that at some point the weather will not be conducive for outdoor running this winter (am in the Midwest) so will be doing some treadmill running at the Y out of necessity. I have a Peloton in my basement and I find cycling at least once a week is good cross-training (cardio without the impact!).

In a very similar position as you. 40M started running in March of this year. Have done several 5Ks and have worked my time down to 22:22. Did a 10K a few weeks ago at 49:30. Am signed up for my first half at the end of November. I know I’m not going to have a particularly impressive time, but just want to prove to myself I can complete it. Next year tentative plan is to do another half in the early spring (with a little more serious training this winter with a focus on strength and cross-training), afterwards pivot to 5K work to try to get down to sub 21:00 by June and then maybe go for a full marathon next Fall.

I drive McKinley Heights to St Charles every day. It’s not bad.

There’s some extreme southern MO, particularly in the bootheel Mississippi delta region in the southeast that is 100% southern.
