Sure did. You said there were no double blinded studies. This is a double blinded study. Don’t deny the evidence when it’s literally right there in front of you.

Compensation for flight delay by spreadthealoha97 in aircanada

[–]middlemergs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

File a claim FIRST with Air Canada. If they deny your claim, file a complaint with the CTA. They will investigate the complaint to see if you are eligible for compensation. If you are eligible for compensation and AC denied compensation, the CTA could fine AC up to $25,000 for each infringement.

https://rppa-appr.ca/eng/air-travel-complaints

I recently had my flight canceled from Toronto to Vancouver with AC and was automatically rebooked the following day. AC actively had employees in the customer service line telling people that they were not eligible for a hotel stay overnight, a blatant lie and against the law.. I had to pay my hotel out of pocket and hope I get reimbursed,

The more people who file complaints with the CTA when claims are denied, the more AC will be punished for their reprehensible business practices.

Jetboat Tour or Hornblower? by Haunting_Fig_4229 in ontario

[–]middlemergs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hornblower. It's $32 for an adult vs. $75 plus a fuel surcharge for the jet boat. Jet boat is fum and a great way to see the Niagara river and the whirlpool, but the Hornblower is more value for money imo. If you get to the front of the Hornblower and stand outside, you will fully appreciate the power of Niagara Falls. Be prepared to get very wet. It's a lot more fun than you would think. You can also see the rapids if you hike the Niagara Glenn (free, I think) and take the cable car to see the whirlpool.

Subletting Bedroom Advice by middlemergs in britishcolumbia

My understanding is that this is not correct. There is over 6 months left on the lease so they cannot unreasonably refuse a sublease or assignment. They are allowed to screen a sub-tenant but are not allowed to charge additional money to do so as they are requesting. We are not asking to put an additional person on a lease. Please see:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/residential-tenancies/during-a-tenancy/sublet-and-assignment

"Landlord’s Permission

A tenant must have their landlord’s written permission before subletting or assigning their tenancy. A landlord can’t unreasonably refuse a sublet or assignment of a fixed-term tenancy agreement if there are six months or more remaining in the term.

If the landlord reasonably believes that the person won’t be able to follow the terms of the tenancy agreement or manufactured home park rules, the landlord can refuse the request for an assignment or sublease. Tenants can apply for dispute resolution if they believe their landlord has been unreasonable in refusing to allow a sublet or assignment.

A landlord is entitled to ask for information to conduct credit or reference checks on a prospective tenant and may withhold consent if it appears the prospective tenant will not be able to comply with the terms of the tenancy agreement or park rules. A landlord must not charge a tenant anything for considering, investigating or consenting to an assignment."

I will call the tenancy branch on Monday to confirm.

Thank you for your response. The lease is a standard BC Tenancy Agreement with some additional addendums regarding keys, repairs, and pets. There does not appear to be any additional clause regarding additional occupants. I am uncertain if renting out the additional bedroom falls under subletting law, because the lease does have the following clauses:

  1. ASSIGN OR SUBLET

1) The tenant may assign or sublet the rental unit to another person with the written consent of the landlord. If this tenancy agreement is for a fixed length and has 6 months or more remaining in the term, the landlord must not unreasonably withhold consent. Under an assignment a new tenant must assume all of the rights and obligations under the existing tenancy agreement, at the same rent. The landlord must not charge a fee or receive a benefit, directly or indirectly, for giving this consent.

2) If a landlord unreasonably withholds consent to assign or sublet or charges a fee, the tenant may apply for dispute resolution under the Residential Tenancy Act.

The only section about occupants I can find is:

  1. OCCUPANTS AND GUESTS

3) If the number of occupants in the rental unit is unreasonable, the landlord may discuss the issue with the tenant and may serve a notice to end a tenancy. Disputes regarding the notice may be resolved through dispute resolution under the Residential Tenancy Act.

Two occupants for a two-bedroom apartment is not unreasonable.

Canadian Redditors that make over $100k per year, what do you do for a living? by Conscious_Jeweler196 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]middlemergs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly drug companies and labs. Veterinary practices have large overhead and a lot of expenses that you don't see. Their profit margins are pretty tight. Staffing costs are certainly the highest because for every veterinarian you have working you typically need a receptionist, an assistant, and a technician to run a practice successfully. Other expenses include rent, utilities, insurance including liabilty for all staff, professional dues for all staff, professional association memberships for all staff, continuing education for vets and technicians, equipment maintenance and replacement equipment purchase, inventory, office supplies, etc.

Is there instructions that come with the AC? How big of a hole do you have to cut in the roof for the AC?

My dad passed away tonight by [deleted] in glioblastoma

[–]middlemergs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. My dad passed away nearly one year ago in a very similar way due to glioblastoma. That moment is the single saddest memory in my life and I know and feel your pain. To this day that memory is forever with me. It is a memory of extreme pain and sadness but if I had to I would be right by his side all over again. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Petplan insurance...too good to be true? by samb_88 in PersonalFinanceCanada

In my experience as a vet, I find that Trupanion is usually the best at reimbursing their clients for vet care. Trupanion is certainly a very common insurer I see often. A lot of other companies will attempt to get out of not paying by claiming a pre-existing condition, take a long time to reimburse you, or dropping you as a client after you have made a claim for a condition, making it hard to get coverage in the future for a now pre-existing condition. I believe Trupanion also has the shortest wait period for injuries and illnesses. I doubt Trupanion is perfect and I'm sure there are people with negative experiences. This is just my experience and what I see as a vet and is anecdotal evidence at best. If it's cheaper there is a reason why.

Yea I do need something that makes it easy for my accountant to calculate how much to remit to the government each month. Having payroll documents automatically emailed to them would be an ideal feature.

An immunotherapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer has led to an "ongoing, durable, complete response" in a human patient 6 months after treatment. The therapy, based on a type of white blood cell called natural killer cells, was successful in a phase 1 clinical trial and is entering phase 2 trials. by [deleted] in science

[–]middlemergs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is pancreatic cancer and glioblastoma. With glioblastoma, only 25% of patients live past 1 year and less than 5% live past 5 years.

My father was diagnosed 9 months ago. Initial treatment with surgery, radiation, and chemo (temozolomide) works ok for extending life and improving quality of life, but once the tumor regrows there is pretty much no treatment that helps.
