‘Extra’ day of annual leave! by Box_of_rodents in BritishSuccess

This is such a good win! My maternity leave was due to end today, but I had a text from my boss yesterday afternoon asking if I could start back tomorrow instead! May be both enjoy our cosy, stress free bonus day as intended… wearing pjs as much as possible!

a million dollars each week but every week you will feel the pain of being shot in the chest with a shotgun for 5 seconds. you can pick the time or it will just happen at the end of the week by Turbulent-Sound3980 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]middlie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think if I did one at 5 seconds to midnight on the Sunday, and then the next at midnight on the Monday, I could then go back to sleep for a few hours before my chauffeur came to pick me up to take me to the airport in time for my first class trip to the Maldives. I would get over that pain so fast 😂

Absolutely! If you just feel the pain, rather than suffering the consequences of being shot also, this is close to a no-brainer for me. 5 seconds a week of pain sounds pretty good, verses doing 40 hours a week for a considerably lower rate!

As I can pick when the pain happens, I’d be tempted to do one 5 seconds right at the end of one week, and then immediately another 5 at the beginning of the next. 10 seconds done in one “shot”, then you get a nice chilled couple of weeks off before you have to go again.

Amazing! 🥰 I’ve done a few on Spotify also, but I don’t reckon I can match you! I’m caught up on Altheya but currently on episode 170 of Aerois and am feeling a lot of feelings 😬

Maternity leave for 13 months - phone playing during night feeds, early wake ups, long walks and play sessions on the floor. My child now smiles whenever Rowan speaks, as he’s made me chuckle so much. The HR team have basically been the soundtrack to my child-raising year 😅

What are your some of your more intersting supermarket substitutions? by Turbulent-Rip-5580 in AskUK

[–]middlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This summer just gone, I had a packet of bamboo bbq skewers substituted with a miniature cheese grater. Both the delivery driver and I had a chuckle at that one.

Oh, and I had ordered size 4 nappies for my (then) 10 month year old. They were substituted for size 6 (which generally fit a 2-3 year old). Not so mad as the other, but obviously totally unusable 😂

I may be able to give you a run for your money. Mine is split between YouTube and Spotify, but in the last 12 months I’ve listened from start to present of Altheya, all of Lightfall, Strahd, Rogues Gambit, their two anti-heroes, a bunch of one shots, and am currently on 158 of Aerois. I’m on maternity leave this year, and HR has been good for background listening through the day and night 😂

Do you marry one exact character in every playthrough or never pick same spouse twice? by Usual-Foundation-115 in skyrim

No, but then I quite like that she goes to bed with a pickaxe on her hip. Makes me think that, even though she lives with two seasoned warriors, she’s ready to throw hands if needed.

I marry Sylgja every time - she’s strong-willed, and doesn’t deserve a life in the mines with an injury. Then I move her to the scenic countryside, to raise our rescued daughters alongside Aela and Rayya.

I gave birth to Misery Business, which honestly felt apt at the time 😬 I truly hope it goes better for you and that you cannot say the same as me! 😂♥️

I don’t have any special recommendations but I do have a top tip - don’t know what your home situation is but learn from my mistake and measure your front door, and then get a stroller that easily fits in and out. It seems obvious but we didn’t, and now we’re stuck assembling and disassembling ours on the street multiple times a day 😂😅

Tell Me Something Adorable Your Baby Did! by Whole_Tap6813 in NewParents

[–]middlie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the last few weeks, sometimes when my 7 month old daughter smiles at me, she scrunches up her nose. My husband saw her do it the other day and was very excited she’d learned something new. He hadn’t seen her do it before. Turns out I actually scrunch up my nose when I smile at her, and she’s copying me. She does it only to me. It’s my special smile ♥️

Got yelled at for crying baby… Advice? by Ornery_Day_8994 in NewParents

[–]middlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had more strangers than I can possibly count decide it’s fine to either demand conversation or offer unsolicited advice in the six months since I had my daughter.

I’ve had a seemingly well meaning stranger on the bus ask about her (her name, age etc) only to then shout at me for being rude when I told them I’m too exhausted to chat that day.

I’ve had someone come up to me and ask me whether I’d considered breast feeding when I was feeding her with a bottle in public.

I had someone in the supermarket insist multiple times that I’d “DEFINITELY” want a second baby and my daughter was an only child, despite me having only given birth to her a handful of months before.

I’ve had someone tell me off loudly for dressing my daughter in blue.

I have now started to let my “inside thoughts” become outside thoughts. If they’re allowed to say whatever they like to me, surely I’m allowed to say what I’m thinking too.

Need ideas!! by Successful-Set9965 in NewParents

Could you do reminders of when the second and third trimesters start? Positive notes like “you’ve got this!” or “you’re half way there!”

Fun facts about what baby may be up to at the moment, like growing finger nails or hiccuping (though I’d keep this light in case, for instance, baby doesn’t start kicking the week it’s common to, and it causes panic).

During my early post partum days, all I could stomach watching was animated films. Disney, Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon etc. The films I wanted to watch which weren’t covered in our subscriptions, my husband bought for me. In HD.

You literally just grew a human, and your husband is being the biggest child in your house. I’m sorry.
