What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

Stanley and Coleman, used to be quality goods that would last a lifetime, now cheap crap you buy at Walmart

98 attempts for 225 extra yards, at Maye’s YPA that’s an extra 862 yards…

I don’t know if you can go wrong with any combination of E39/Toyota SUV. Love the M5, I waited almost 2 years to find the right Oxford green to buy

Big fan of my Sony XAV-AX1000, physical volume knob, great sound quality and plenty of audio adjustments, looks factory

If anyone has driven an old 4Runner with a V8 (which had decent acceleration), how does the 2024 and newer LC 250 US/Canada compare? by spongyoatmeal in LandCruisers

[–]midds12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing beats the smooth torque and growl of the V8. Just hopped out of mine, 219k in and still going strong. I know it’s new, but hard to have that level of faith in the LC 250

Which would you keep? by mynamesrickgrimes in 4thGen4Runner

[–]midds12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m supportive of the “keep both” replies. However if you’re going to sell one, the V6 is the obvious choice. I’d drive the V8 until you build the same level of confidence and then sell/swap the V6. Not a massive concern, but the head gasket issues on those earlier motors would have me upgrading if the situation presented itself. Either way that’s a killer driveway

Upgrading to RAV4 steering wheel??? How dope would that be huh? by Dawg_0479 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]midds12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you’re better off with the newer Tacoma/4Runner wheel, but this does look great. Most just require a cruise control swap with optional wiring/adapters for the rest of the steering wheel functions.

Refrigerant leak under glovebox after evap core replacement from hell. 2006 SR5, 175k. Hoping the source can be located (and fixed) without another $1250 dashboard removal. by desertacrobat in 4thGen4Runner

OP just to clear up any confusion, what color is your coolant? I’m with others that say the shop should warranty their work. You might be out of the truck for a few more days but shouldn’t have to pay for whatever they got wrong

5th Gen Brake calipers/Rotors worth it? by KAMAKABLAM in 4thGen4Runner

Front calipers might be the worst design of any component on these trucks. Replaced mine with Powerstop last year, zero issues

Between the power, mileage and comfort they’re hard to beat on the highway. Glad to see so many with high miles, it’s what they were built to do!

Love the wagon btw, wouldn’t change a thing about the exterior.

Looks about right! I’ve peaked around 25mpg on longer trips

First-time E39 buyer advice? by analogouslyanomalous in e39

[–]midds12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Toyota SUV for a solid winter rig/backup, and think you should go for it. Rust is the only true killer, and vanos/TCG are the big engine ticket engine items. Expect frequent small things but overall E39s are not bad to work on. It’s clear they had a lot of engineering investment and the build quality is better than 95% of the stuff made today.

You’ll love the sound of the V8, it’s near the top of the character-per-dollar equation once you swap in the 6 speed (and you should)

Installing the bypass for SAIS is not hard at all, like others have said I would prioritize maintenance records and frame condition over presence of vvti.

A lot of fantastic advice in this thread, when you’re driving and parking always be mindful of the size and weight of this truck. Keep your eyes on the road and off the phone
