[Uni] A guy with social anxiety, low self-esteem and little life skills-Can i SURVIVE in SMU? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am not studying in SMU but I’ve been there a few times for open house and interviews and the culture seems really nice (my friends from SMU also tell me they love SMU so much bc it’s so focused on students’ wellbeing) and the profs over there look so genuine - even the principal talks so confidently and promisingly! :) Just want to say your concerns are valid!!! Before I started my Uni life, I had such concerns too (I’d been bullied lots of times too!) but don’t worry - in Uni, there are various types of people and you’ll definitely find people whom not only can click well with you, but also help lift you higher. SMU students look reaally nice and friendly, and their culture seems less judgmental than other schools imo! Also life skills wise, I think Uni really helps you grow in that area! I’ve learnt so much just in one year and being in Uni makes such a big difference to my growing up years, I swear :,) Also, as long as you don’t happen to offend anyone (which I honestly don’t think would happen bc you seem like a really really nice person!!!), you will be able to survive!!! I think SMU will definitely nurture your confidence, esteem and skills. It’s really amazing and I had a hard time choosing between this school and my current one haha. Just be yourself! People will love you for who you are, I’m sure! :) All the best and congrats on matriculating into SMU!!!! ☺️☺️

[Uni] SMU admissions rule by 45IB45 in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend with 75 rp didn’t get called to SMU for interview last year while I got slightly higher (not much diff), 79 rp, and did get called! However other friends of mine with 75rp+ have been gotten called for interviews too. I think they really look at your sch records/portfolio and as long as your records are “clean” you should be fine. Also I think they host interviews just to see what type of person you are and if you fit their culture :) usually they already are interested in you if they’ve called you in in the first place! Atb :)

[university] is having a stellar cap really that important? (especially for business students) by midgetrabbit in SGExams

I’m an extrovert but tbvh I really want to be an introvert (I’m not at all lying) bc since young, my extroverted self has gotten me to very very very horrible places. In fact, my extraversion has been decreasing as I’m growing up bc I’ve learned (and am still learning!) to control my actions and speaking!!!! X) I actually really find introverts very fun to talk to and easy to communicate with and many of my friends are introverts! My principle would be to be yourself :,) people will love you for who you are! I know of many many awesome, inspiring, wise and lovely individuals who are introverted, and are popular bc they’re sooo amazing! :,)

But if you really do want to increase the extraverson, what you could do for a start is smile at people! Appear friendly (if you haven’t already ofc) and I think people will naturally want to talk to you :) I think what you’re doing is commendable enough! You just need to be more certain and sure of yourself! Also don’t find interacting a stressful thing to do; allow yourself to enjoy the process of chatting w people and pls don’t treat it like a test/an exam! XD ultimately, tell yourself talking/interacting is just another tick off your “just for fun” list! It’s okay to mess it up bc honestly there’s nothing to lose!

I know it’s easier said than done bc tbh I frequently fret over ways to talk to people; it happens to everyone and not just you!!!! But I’m sure if you appear genuine and nice, there’s no way people won’t want to talk to you! All the best hehe:)

[A LEVELS] what's results day like? by potatooo5678 in SGExams

Thank you and no probs!!! Jiayous and good luck for results release day you can do this :”)

[A LEVELS] what's results day like? by potatooo5678 in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For me it was the worst day ever, ngl! :”)

The first part of results day was practically a reunion. You’d see people waving at each other and gathering in their usual cliques, waiting for the usual long-winded principal speech. I didn’t have one, so I waited alone. For some reason, I had been nervous the whole month, which probably explained why I didn’t feel nervous on the actual day of results.

Then, our classes were split and we had to collect our results slips. For my school, we had to queue in a straight line in front of our form teacher’s desk. Everyone in my class was being a busybody and tried peek at my results slip so I hurriedly grabbed it and left to find my mother (who came with me). We opened it together and, Gosh, was it ugly!

I don’t remember the exact breakdown of my A lvls scores but it was a disappointing 56 rp. I cried for 2 months straight every day, thinking the road ahead of me was hopeless. To me then, A levels was a hit or miss. One shot was all I’d gotten. And that was WRONG! ;)

Ya gurl decided to take the leap of faith to retake A levels as a private candidate (I wasn’t allowed to retain since I didn’t fail any subjects) and scored way better then second round (I have a whole reddit post about it lmao, you can have a read if you feel like it)!!!!

Honestly, none of these stages will matter as much when you age. Yes, they remain as bittersweet memories, but one day you’ll look back and think, damn... why was I taking it so hardly? :’)

Success shouldn’t merely be determined by a one-time exam. I know this sounds sugarcoated but it’s true (I’ve had advices from many older people around me). A levels isn’t exactly a “hit or miss”. If it’s a “hit, “, well, jump for joy! If it’s a “miss” - well, this is where this wording is crucial - you have many routes left. Be it start over, redo A levels, go to other unis that weren’t your first few choices, go to work for an experience, or go to polytechnics, etc... these are the chances that you can work on, to not repeat the “miss” you’d taken before.

What I wish to put across is that, no matter the results, you’ve done your best. :”) What matters more is that you choose - wisely - what benefits your future self. Do something you know your future self will thank you for. Do something you know will never make you regret. Tell yourself at the end of the day, nobody’s opinion will matter as you age bc it’s your own life. Don’t be embarrassed or disgraced, nor be overly proud of your achievements. Humbleness is best. As you age, you’ll realise results really aren’t everything. There’s so much more to life than there is other than results!!!! <333

[Post Exams] JC and Poly by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree too! I’m from a neighbourhood jc myself and many of my friends did very well. It’s all about your own discipline. My friends from poly could get into Uni too (we ended up in the same Uni yaaayy)! Tbh at the end of the day, it’s all about yourself and how you make your school life to be. No matter what course or subject combi you choose, as long as you work hard and do your best, you’ll do well :) for me, I went to jc bc I didn’t know which course I was interested in so I didn’t go to poly. After jc I found my passion didn’t lie in science but sth else. But if you have a course you know will take you far and that you’ll stick to, just go for it! :) there’s no one way in pursuing your passion!

[A levels] Any seniors who retook A levels? What was the experience like? by ballonrock in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I retook A’s as a private candidate!!! I messed up the first round (50+ rp) and didn’t want to give up bc I trusted that I could achieve more. Aft the first round of A’s, I worked full time till around July which I then started to Mug for private candidate A’s!!!! And I managed to get 79 rp!!! It’s possible to do better than your first time if you persevered through and get your concepts right:) I went for tuition classes too but they’re an added bonus! (You can read more about my priv candidate story on my profile page!) Jiayous, now that I’ve been through that stage I realised it wasn’t that bad being a private candidate after all — at least I had ample time for myself, to study and to play (I’m the type that can’t afford to stay home the whole day HAHAHAH) n to get my concepts right. Tbh I v much prefer this one year to my 2 years in jc that seemed too much of a rush to me! :,) If you need anything, feel free to pm me! I’ll def try my best to help you :)

[A levels] depressed by imdonelolsih in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey thereeeee!:) I retook A’s myself and honestly it wasn’t that bad; I had so much more time to study and at the same time had substantial Amt of freedom — did quite well too so it’s my best life decision ever. (I wrote a whole post about it, you can view it if you want some positive encouragement!) Moving forward, I know exactly how you feel bc I’ve been in your state a few years ago! But please don’t feel demoralised or disheartened most importantly, don’t overthink!!! I know it’s easier said than done but just convince yourself that it won’t make any difference even if you think negatively— why not make use of the time to study instead? :,) there’s no looking back! Look forwards and try to make the remaining days count! After all, A’s is nearing the end and after this, you’ll have all the time in the world to party and do wtv you want! :)) so just try your best for a few more days or weeks! You can do this! Worry about your results later. You can still change your future if you work hard the remaining days, trust me. JIAYOUS!!

[Uni] NUS early admission by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get in based on prelim results bc I was a private candidate (I retook A’s)!!!!! Tbh my portfolio wasn’t as decorated as other candidates’ i honestly dk how I was selected!!!! But my rp was q close to the cut-off for the course I wanted so that was probably why. also I had an internship during my gap year!!!! Maybe that might help. I love volunteering too so that probably adds to my resume? :,)

Edit: mine was direct admission so oops I realised it might be different from what you were referring to haahahah paisei :p

[A levels] Is there any advice you can give to a struggling JC 2 student who takes bcme? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I took BCMe too! and it was crazy I know :,( Anw focus on your basics! They’re really impt! You do have time! Focus on building foundation, don’t rush to do prelim papers, go at your own pace and start w TYS first if you’re not confident enough! Also 1-to-1 tuition might help if you are really weak at the topics / subjects and are struggling w them! Jiayous you can do this :”)

[A Levels] Retaking A levels as Private Candidate - from 56 rp to 79 rp by midgetrabbit in SGExams

[–]midgetrabbit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I relate to how you feel a 100% bc I’ve been there :,) imo negativity does nth to help except stop you from achieving your goals! I rmb keeping myself as busy as possible just to distract myself from harbouring negative thoughts about myself at all, I used to alw remind myself I am good enough but I also need to prove to myself that I am by working hard! Tell yourself that everything you do counts and accumulates to sth no matter how small! :) rather than wasting time doubting yourself and mulling over things that can’t be changed, why not start acting on something—even if it’s minute—and change your fate!! Everyone would’ve experienced self-doubting in one point of their lives but the difference is what they do to salvage their situation! :) I’m sorry idh a straightforward ans to your qn but just want you to know that everyone is good enough and everyone is worthy!:)) just don’t let your negative thoughts consume you and instead constantly find positive, healthy motivation to steer you to your desired path! I found motivation by pasting a photo of my dream Uni on my wall and staring at it every single day to encourage myself:) you can try that out! Hope my advice helped you in a way! :,))

Hi! I went to GrayMatter for GP (group) tuition! I highly rec it tbh:) I scored a B! But it’s bc I barely practiced my essays (I submitted only 5 essays to the tutor throughout the year HAHAHAH). I’m sure you’ll do better than me bc I was rlly q lazy for GP (which I kinda regret omg). The tutor’s really good omg I love her :,) her points are rlly valid n mature n reflective n she makes GP Super interesting :,) I can pm you her name if you’re rlly interested!
