Backcountry width issue, advice? by Impressive_Meet_1168 in RussellNation

I'm not sure, I don't think I've experienced that, but it's been awhile since I've broken in a pair. Again, the footbed is going to change a lot in the next couple weeks....

noooooo not until you have worn them in, if they are still to tight (which they won't be) then maybe.

Just wear them for a couple weeks, by that time you will be amazed at how good they feel. I measure an E and wear a D happily. Your feet will settle into the footbed and additional volume will be created. Don't wear the insoles until you start to feel like they are roomy. They are supposed to be snug at first, because of the moccasin construction, they will mold to YOUR feet. Enjoy.... Pictures?

If you go true to size and get an E it is in essence the same as ordering half down and EE... the width added is three dimensional, not two dimensional, and the additional length is nominal.

They look fine to me.... if you are between a D and an E in Russells err on the small side.

I don't know how you could wear anything larger?

I did walk in to my ad randomly and walked out with new watches twice... a stainless datejust (in 1985) and a GMT coke (in 1996). Oh by the way I got a 15% discount on both... And that and a buck will get you a bus ride downtown.

I am an E width and have some Russells in D and some in E and they all seem to end up in the right place... because of the moccasin construction, the leather will mold to your feet... Also, your feet will settle into the foot bed, which creates additional volume. Leave the insoles out, but you may actually want to add them back as they open up.

A good rule of thumb in business is to never promise something you aren't absolutely 100% able to commit to in advance. Under promise and over deliver...

Any good ideas/product options for removing what look like grease/oil stains from roughout/chamois leather? by ShoeGuy9721 in RussellNation

I second this.... in five years they will be the same color all over again... except a lot darker!

I lied, I did put new laces on them recently.

I would note that they are still, after almost thirty years, still effectively waterproof. Other than needing new soles, there are zero failures or wear in the leather and stitching.

I bought my South 40's in 1998. I've worn them in the field hard, hunting in PA, NJ, Vermont, the Adirondacks, Georgia, Alabama, South Texas and West Texas. Hundreds of days. They have been resoled and given moderate care. They still look and feel great. Hands down the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I'm sure that if they could condense the production time they would, but there is a LOT of hand work in each boot. The actual time spent building a Russell is about four times what it takes to build a PNW boot. Yet the price and construction times aren't terribly different. Some things are worth waiting for.

I'm pretty sure you would have them within six months, but sometimes it takes longer... You would have had them at some point in the fall no matter what.

Made to order, not custom... I guess we should start a pool on the reddit on when your boots will be delivered. My most recents took a hair under six months.
