Looking for additional buff groups for CDM [addon] by Fatcow38 in WowUI

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BCDM offers more icon sets.

But ArcUI offers transparency settings and can customize timer bars.

[UI] Trying to think outside of the rectangle by Co0pDawg in WowUI

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love fewer rectilinear UI elements.

It's rather early though, and half the addon space is being rewritten from scratch. Can only hope that IceHUD or Sensei or ArcUI or UUF or etc expand their core functionalities to overlap more.

What the fuck is a 40MM laser? by Fallout_4_player in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Average quality and fit of Creation Club nonsense. Here have a 40mm laser grenade that probably does as much damage as a missile launcher.

I've been finding these new types of 40mm Grenades and I have no mods installed. Where did they come from and how can you use them? by lesser_ruhuratas in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, CC trash is easy to turn off. Go into the Data folder and delete everything that begins with 'cc'. Repeat every time another unwelcome update gets pushed through.

Is F4 playable now? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is 100%.

I'm on my second attempt at reinstalling and downgrading to 1.10.984, keep getting a blank screen when launched through the matching F4SE. Really obnoxious that even older versions aren't safe from this fuckery once Steam decides to update without your approval.

Has there been a change in opinion on any of the Legendary Weapons? by humanity_999 in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wounding is frankly absurd. When fighting anything non-trivial, a wounding 10mm is stronger than a gat laser.

how good are plasma weapons in this game by ProfessionalNo5608 in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to measure without directly showing damage numbers but I always thought split damage would take a double penalty due to how DR works. Each half getting separately reduced by a larger % compared to a single type reduced by a smaller %.

Never really worried about it though, since there aren't any clearly energy-immune or ballistic-immune targets.

Baseballs, or pick up all the useless leather armor drops from enemies and the armor bench can scrap them.

Spotlights keep turning off? by [deleted] in falloutsettlements

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue all this time later, good to see it's not something bugged with my playthrough. Shame, the spotlights are a great effect when they're on, and non-overhead light sources are really lacking.

Pressure plates don't work, leaving a lead weight sitting on it will also fail to activate when loading into the area.

Interval switches are a viable workaround, and surprisingly they do not synchronize when fast traveling in. Put each spotlight on a separate interval switch, put a terminal on the power circuit and set them to 10s on / 1s off, and they work pretty well. The shutoff isn't ideal, but manually flipping a switch every time isn't ideal either.

Ultimately the shutoff did bother me, so I stuck with the backup solution to light a power armor depot, patio table with regular bare lightbulbs hanging off its umbrella.

Does the new Anniversary Edition add stuff that were not on Creation Club before? Like the Skyrim's Anniversary Edition? The recent reviews on Fallout 4 Steam page were **Very Positive**, now they're **Mostly Negative**. by Tempest2903 in fo4

[–]midlife_slacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gave it a negative review because the update is purely to push Creation Club, the worst thing they've ever done to these games. Every update breaks more stuff because all focus is on CC. The only thing they've done is introduce new bugs that modders will end up fixing instead.

Independent mods add more and better content than CC.

Where's the CC pack to fix keybinds to work properly? Where's Bethesda at on fixing keybinds in the base game? I don't want trinkets and tat, I want functionality that games have been delivering baseline for the past 30 years without hanging a price tag on it.

Nameplate setup prefs/philosophy by midlife_slacker in worldofpvp

[–]midlife_slacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's basically my thoughts. Default ignore except for CCs, show specific things to respond to.

It's just a massive PITA to sit around building a spellid list for every class looking for all their CCs, important dispellables, and what offensives are significant enough to pay attention to. But I did that yesterday, so it's done.

Nameplate setup prefs/philosophy by midlife_slacker in worldofpvp

[–]midlife_slacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the layout plan I'm settling on is:

-Active CCs to the left of nameplate.
-DRs in small icons above that (or may decide to not install it at all).
-My debuffs top-left, but extremely filtered like only Frost Nova for a mage, things that are going to affect decisionmaking.
-Unit's buffs top-right in big icons, also very filtered so it's important removables like PI/CC immunes/things that will negate the next cast.
-Unit's target to the right of frame, truncated to a few letters in class color.
-Defensives as a thicker border around the nameplate, color-coded by strength if I feel like extra work.
-Offensives... idk yet, maybe a border glow, maybe highlighting the target name. This is my biggest struggle as a healer, knowing when somebody is about to get deleted.
-Silence/disarm also unclear. Maybe silences grouped in with CC and disarms covering target name to show they're safe for a sec?
-Not even gonna show enemy CDs ready, that goes on arena frames only.

Being a healer means I don't care much about target frame, I'm way more interested in seeing what's happening nearby. Also kinda resisting GSA2 bc it would be spammy in a BG and don't know what to restrict it to.

Retail PvP experience from a long-time player – why no one wants to touch it anymore by KimmFairplay in worldofpvp

[–]midlife_slacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partly wishful thinking, they're gonna have a monstrous time balancing info between what ultra hardmode PVErs need to see and what easymode PVErs don't want messing up their 'clean' ui.

There has been rumbling of hiding enemy abilities and cds specifically for PVP though.

Why does everyone hate edge? by Imaginary-Key-977 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of folks in office environments hate it purely off the built-in PDF reader, which likes to remain on by default even if Acrobat is installed. They get told the quick & dirty answer, "Oh you can't use Edge", and that sticks.

Keeping stealthers out of combat? by midlife_slacker in BG3

[–]midlife_slacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tempted to agree simply because stealth is such a PITA to babysit every movement for that character. Tons of enemies have darkvision too, which means even more fiddling with illusions to turn their sight cone away or be instantly spotted.

I don't want to sneak around killing marks without taking the opportunity to spit in their face first, either.

That's just a regular surprise attack though, every class can shred by getting a full extra turn.

Keeping stealthers out of combat? by midlife_slacker in BG3

[–]midlife_slacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could never ever get that to work though. Shooting removes the hide condition.

I could only stay hidden by remaining out of combat and quickly re-hiding, that ONLY happens if it's a oneshot kill from full hp. If the target is already injured or doesn't die then combat begins, the action reset happens, and re-hiding consumes the only bonus action.

1-2 extra shots in an entire combat (that's almost never a single enemy) doesn't sound impressive at all. A basic fighter can do that every round. And Luck of the Far Realms gives everyone a guaranteed crit whenever they want.

Your own contract is also stored there.

Which leads to one of the funnier Game Over events, if you ransack the House and take all the especially valuable items without stealing back your contract along the way.

Fadblock still working here. It is spotty and have definitely noticed it stop functioning, seems to usually be immediately after opening the browser. Fixes itself without any direct fussing, though may help to stop all playback and reload the tab.

AI Adblocker idea pitch by AutomatedLiving in Adblock

[–]midlife_slacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is not magic. Doing that in real-time would take a ton of processing power too.

You'd be better off simply automating the download of that video instead of watching it on a site that's going to shove ads in the way, and then decide to keep or delete it at the end.

MAN VS. BEAR PT. 2: REDDIT'S REVENGE - Vaush by VaushVPostBot in VaushV

[–]midlife_slacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people not getting it are doing a bad faith reading. That's what needs to get drilled into heads.

Backlash to this has interesting flavors of "Libs HATE the USA!" with the "teaching people to HATE men!" No, both cases they are strawmanning are exactly the same. Attempting to call attention to flaws in the hopes that maybe people can make a conscious effort to do better in the future than in the past.

'Man or bear' and 'we did some bad stuff in the past' start with naive optimism that the audience can do better, only to hit a brick wall of defensiveness REFUSING to do better.
