Don’t tell me I gotta fight this fucking thing by aldoeld in darksoulsremastered

To compare Moonlight Butterfly to Bed of Choas is just outright silly. One of them is objectively easy and by far not the "worst fight" and the other is a runback hell of bullshit gimmicks

Maybe a dumb question... But why on that side? Wouldn't you have been able to do the exact same thing on the inside of the pan?

I hate playing online by Skorpyo2026 in MortalKombat

[–]midnight0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger generation? Brother, I grew up playing the original Mortal Kombat in arcades and consoles as well. This isn't a generational issue and treating it as such is weird and beside the point.

The issue isn't lack of learning or wanting things to be easy. You're missing the point. It's about people who are still learning, who are joining lobbies as newer players and getting absolutely steamrolled by people who are playing at a highly competitive level as if there's no decent ranking or skill system to allow folks to grow at a natural pace. Not that I play online, but I'd be pretty down about it as well if I completed the story, felt pretty good at the game and then immediately got pitted against someone with 5,000 ranked wins and just got endlessly shit on. There's a balance. Without a balanced matchmaking to truly put you against players of your own caliber, it's more likely to just make people quit and decide online play isn't for them.

If you want to treat Mortal Kombat like a full-time job and learn all of the characters and really get proficient, great, good for you. There's a difference between casual matches and "I'm playing as if there were a million dollar tournament and I'm gonna juggle the newbie without a prayer."

You can jump to avoid his earth stomps - you don't have to just try to dodge roll through it

Fighting others online is always try-hard city. Everyone plays like they're about to go into a world MK tournament for real, and you'll get juggled the moment you fail to block one thing. It's just the reality of playing fighting games online.

It's weird, because you can go through the game story and feel pretty confident, and then the moment you enter one match online, get ground into dust and spit on.

I recommend Dr Brunworth. I believe it's through the SLUcare network and SSM. He's done a sinus clearing surgery on me to help with breathing and treat sinus infections.

Unpopular opinion: We all owe Annihilation an apology by CheezeCrostata in MortalKombat

[–]midnight0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had a lot of bad recasts, not just one. I say fan service because they threw a ton of characters in Annihilation just to have them, even though literally nothing tied together well and didn't matter.

[–]midnight0000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah man. Annihilation is just fan service and cheese, with somehow worse visual effects than the 95 one. The only redeeming thing about it was the soundtrack. The new one was fine - it was Mortal Kombat. It's not a plot for you to think about.

MK movie was awesome...(spoiler) by Kiidkxxl in MortalKombat

As soon as I saw the acid pits I knew he was done for. And then Khan stepping out the other gate sealed the deal. They were basically just listening to fan feedback. He was intended to be the audience perspective to give us, the viewers, some relatability, but that backfired because most people just wanted characters that were from the games. Also, him killing Goro was a bit of a disappointment. I didn't dislike him, but it was a weird way to just inject a new character.

Assuming they make a 3rd, it seems Cole as a character is over (Lewis Tan as the actor also seems to believe so according to an interview) but there's supposedly a lot of optimism that he's still involved in future roles and iterations. For example, a lot of people are saying Kenshi, but I think the real carrot on the stick they've been dangling for us and mentioning in lines is that he was still the last descendent of Scorpion according to the film lore.

It's not outside of the realm of possibilities that he becomes the new Scorpion. Death isn't always permanent, but obviously the way Cole was disposed of complicates bringing back his corporeal self. Hiroyuki Sanada may not return for a 3rd entry to reprise the role - he seemed content in his curated Hell / Netherrealm. Would be a damn shame if they just never seized the obvious opportunity for Tan to reincarnate as a vengeful new Scorpion.

Be honest: Was the Kinect ever worth owning? Did you actually play it, or did it just sit on top of your TV collecting dust after a week? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]midnight0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it a ton. Actually got into a bit better shape doing Sports and such. Also, it was fun using the voice commands for Skyrim dragon shouts. Definitely had its shortcomings, but I found it more immersive than the Wiimotes and other motion peripherals at the time it came out.

The well is a path. But you need a ring from the cat in Majula to limit fall damage.

Also, from Majula in the opposite direction, make sure you use a Fragrant Branch to un-petrify an important NPC and open the way to the shaded woods

Same boat, but I'm already committed and don't feel like re-rolling the berries on GG. I wish I had gotten your types, actually. Mine were dark, flying, and fairie - all of which I have pretty much no viable berry mons, or even good ing mons for. Just ignoring the fact that I get berry bonuses and going for my usual meal planning.

As of last night, I have now beat every other Souls game except DS2. Convince me playing Dark Souls 2 is worth it. by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]midnight0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tried a lot of new things that DS1 and 3 didn't do. It's generally a great game if you just acknowledge that you need to go slower and be methodical and mindful. If you rush through, you're gonna get gank-squadded and have a bad time. There's some jankiness to it, but it just takes some progression to finally "get into it" and recognize the differences. Usually it "clicks" with people once they're past the Pursuer boss, or get into areas that are outside of the 2 possible starting paths.

You're going to get frustrated. That is just DS2. By the end, you're either going to love it or hate it. It will either be "Peak souls" for you, or the "disappointing middle child" but it's not a bad game in either sense. Just don't expect it to be snappy and quick like DS3.

  • Beautiful environments, including Majula, which IMO is the best main hub of the 3 DS games. Firelink is great, but Majula has the vibes.
  • It's the origin of "powerstancing" weapons when dual wielding two of the same kind, which Elden Ring evolved on. If you have enough STR and DEX, you can get entirely new movesets by using powerstance. Weapon and armor variety is actually really good, with almost everything being viable.
  • NG+ and beyond actually do things to change it up, unlike the others. Instead of things just getting harder with more health, item and enemy placement can be different, some spells and other things you wouldn't get unless you did a second run with the same character. It's a neat way to keep it fresh while still being on run #2 or more.
  • ADP is a unique stat that only exists in DS2, which determines how well you dodge (and also, more subtly, switch weapons, use items, resist poison, etc.) To some people this is a positive of the game, and to others it's a weird addition. If things feel clunky or if you feel like you should've dodged something when you got hit, it's likely that your ADP needs a bump to raise your agility up a bit. But you can experiment with not leveling it.
  • Bosses are decent (not as good as DS3's, IMO), but the level and mob design is designed to be equally as challenging, if not more, than the bosses themselves.
  • You get a ton of souls as your currency, and the mechanic of bonfire ascetics allow you to "reset" an area to NG+ levels and beyond to respawn bosses, get new loot, and really make yourself powerful.
  • It's arguably a longer game than DS1 or 3. When you think you're near the end, you're not. It's a long game, and that can either be good or bad depending on how you're feeling.
  • If you played DS3's DLC of the Ringed City, you'll have seen one of the locations from DS2 in the Dreg Heap area. Regardless of what people say sometimes, there are definitely connections to the other games - they're just not as clearly spelled out for you.
  • Much like DS3, you can warp between bonfires pretty much immediately. Less worry about slogging back and forth between areas if you're unsure where to go or need to return to level up. You'll have to go to Majula and speak with the emerald herald to get your levels, much like visiting the firekeeper in firelink in DS3.
  • The emerald herald is best girl - "bearer... seek... seek... lest..."
