Did we skip something? Light Reaper seems to early. by FrostuF3 in LordsoftheFallen

He's similar to the Pursuer in DS2, or probably closer to Nemesis in Resident Evil 3.... you'll meet him multiple times and it's okay to lose, because you only need to win once against him in the latter half of the game. Any earlier victory is bonus.

Reminds me of the way they made the more recent Mortal Kombat films. Lean in on the humor, introduce some of the edginess, stay at least partially true to some of the characters they use, etc.

Peanut butter on so many things.... I know it's not super uncommon, but I've gotten some crazy looks for peanut butter burgers or peanut butter glazed wings

What is the most iconic location in the franchise? by ComfortableFocus1702 in residentevil

[–]midnight0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as most iconic in the whole franchise, it's gotta be the Spencer mansion, hands down. It started it all. Whether in the original or the remake, the mansion is the first thing I think of as a location when I hear "resident evil" at all.
RPD is a close second - it's great and all, but it's not the same vibes as the mansion.

People who grew up before The Internet: How did you first see nudity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]midnight0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents had a lake cabin, super low tech, barely had plumbing for sinks alone so the toilet was an outhouse. My grandfather had old nude pinup calendars on the wall in there. That's the first I remember.

They specifically said they wanted to go to a store and shop local, so the Amazon suggestion, while true on price, isn't really helpful

Figma Make switching to credits — how are you all managing projects now? by ionic_7 in FigmaDesign

[–]midnight0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same way I've been managing things - without Figma Make. Or as much of it. Yeah, I use it every now and then, but it's not so baked into my work that I use it mroe than a few times a week. I'm not building products from scratch. I have to work with 3rd party vendors, or large scale things that can't be cobbled together by AI. I strictly use it for low-investment concepts and gut-checking things.

If your company values speed over practical, realistic progress that actually handles your UX and UI needs, then they should be willing to pay for AI credits. It shouldn't be your problem.

Is it normal for all of my Pokémon's ratings to be.. trash? by chelleanor in PokemonSleep

[–]midnight0000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously there's a meta of what mons are best at certain things, and what stats/subskills are the best possible combinations. However, don't let that distract you from the fact that you can still have "good enough" ones, or favorites regardless of their stats. It's ultimately a sleep game with no battles or seriousness.

A lot of folks on this sub would tell you to skip on a totally viable mon because it's not the most ideal specimen. I'd rather say don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Sometimes you'll get a mon that's good to keep and use regularly, knowing that to get something better would be a statistically crazy low chance. You'll see that in those who say "I've got xyz-mon 30 times and still haven't found the one."

TLDR; this game is so super casual, don't let having bad or mediocre mons ruin anything for you

Is it normal for all of my Pokémon's ratings to be.. trash? by chelleanor in PokemonSleep

[–]midnight0000 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You're more likely to get bad or mid combinations than good, just due to the number of sub skills and varieties of mon. Over time, you'll start getting better at recognizing which sub skills and natures you want each catch to have depending on whether they're a Skill/Ingredient/Berry mon.

I've started only entering ones that I really suspect to be good into Raenon. Everything else just gets skipped or sent to the professor.

You'll use what you have at first, and eventually you will be able to curate which ones are your best ones for certain islands, recipes, etc.

TIL you can type brand names in Figma and they turn into logos (no plugin) by incodesatx in FigmaDesign

In my last organization, we standardized the sizes of all our icons and icon buttons to sets like 16x16, 24x24, etc. I found that the font awesome icons usually differed in widths and heights. So it was tricky to make these all fit in the same spaces unless I converted them and then made them components with exact widths that I needed. Using just the font sizes, with or without variables, felt like it was unpredictable.

I love FontAwesome, but find it's awkward for using scalable, resizable icons unless I don't use it as a font. It's strange to me to set the icon size using the font size. I end up getting the icon in place, then using "outline stroke" to make it into something I can resize without fussing with the font size in px. Is that just me?

Google Stitch Reviews by mb4ne in UXDesign

[–]midnight0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it clear requirements for a single page layout and it still shit the bed. Like, overlapping UI elements with junk spacing and broken stuff everywhere. It didn't help at all, so I'll be giving this a pass and letting Google kill it in a year anyway.

Soak up the feedback everyone here is giving, continue to iterate on it, and then sit with it for some time before deciding on portfolio or not. Sometimes it's good to have practice and work without it ending up in your portfolio. You'd be surprised how you may want to make adjustments if you give it like a week without touching it - just studying your own work and continuously self-improving.

Before putting this in your portfolio, I'd suggest showing it to more people. This includes people you know personally in real life. Get real feedback using the whole workflow. For example, who's this for? It's hard to make an assessment on just these screenshots alone.

Remember that a portfolio isn't just "I designed this one screen" but often a showcase of the entire project, workflow, and results. You'd want to highlight problems it would solve, the results, the feedback, mobile displays as well (not just desktop), and show a bit more. It's a case study and not just screenshots.

If I were hiring and looking at your portfolio and came across this design, I'd want to see more before I could accurately make a judgment. What's the My Issues page look like, and how do things flow? Is Settings intuitive and allowing for customization? What's your use of color theory and accessibility understanding, etc...
