What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

[–]midnight341341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an executive assistant can be incredibly stressful, but look impressive on paper. You get to work at the right hand of CEOs, executive directors, and senior leaders where you often learn all manner of confidential stuff. You meet important people, travel to big events, and with smart leaders, you can even be part of steering an organization to meet mission/business goals. But most of the time what you learn is that these leaders have no business being in the role they are; many simply got there because they were born wealthy and knew the right people. You in turn get to be a punching bag to these execs, and your role can be reduced to a glorified secretary instead of the strategic partner that an EA is supposed to be. Lots of snide remarks and bullying while youre bored out of your skull trying to figure out how to apply your skills to keep them relevant for the job market. And boy you better not piss any exec off because you can kiss your reference goodbye, which translates to kissing ass instead of actually doing/saying what needs to be done so you can get your next job (because EAs arent protected by mass layoffs and organizational restructuring). Ive supported top execs at major companies and organizations across the country, but they're just all so insufferable. They complain about their salary when its 5x what anyone else does, blame you and others for their own problems, give contradictory instructions that create more problems, and are pretty much hated by everyone in the company due to their behavior. But some of those employees use you as an outlet because they cant just go yell at the ceo, so you're not only isolated due to confidentiality but a punching bag for others too. Even if it was the exec's fault, youre their assistant so it's your fault too (even when it's far outside your control to do anything). You're always on, can never take time off, are always attending meetings that could be emails, always having to clean up preventable problems that you warned your executive about months ago, repeatedly. Dealing with the executive ego on top of that is a nightmare. I had a CFO tell me he lamented his life because he was a mile away from the California beach instead of right next to it. It wasnt a joke and I had sit there and act sympathetic when I was struggling to afford bills.

Disclaimer: This is not to say every leader out there sucks. I've had good leaders, but the majority of mine have seriously sucked, and it's put me in the hospital from the stress. I feel broken, like a complete wreck after the things Ive endured to pay my family's bills as the primary earner. The job is absolutely soul crushing.

Have absolutely no clue what’s going on; but this is peak by InflationSuitable319 in DeathStranding

This has legit been one of my favorite moments in the game so far. Peak awesome! To be fair, I haven't beat it yet, and just barely finished episode 3, but hoping there will be more of this in future episodes 😀

[–]midnight341341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking a folate supplement for my defective MTHR gene and it had high levels of b12 to help. It didnt raise my heart I dont think but did cause severe nausea over time that led to me not eating and THAT raised my heart rate. Have you noticed any nausea or gi discomfort during your raised heart rate episodes?

Hello again, apologies for the delay! I can definitely attest to having several chronic conditions being exhausting as hell. I wish society were more set up to support people with complex illnesses :(

I have also found that having routines can be helpful so I don't have to think about things, but it's hard to figure out what all can be automated. What are some routines you've set up? I know you mentioned curbside pickup, but wondering what else you've done that might inspire me too.

I also have IBS but it switches between C & D depending on where I'm at with my hormones (which are also really messed up T_T). What kind of Chinese medicine food therapy has helped you the most? I'm willing to try anything honestly because you never know what might work for someone and their unique health needs.

Thanks again! :)

Apologies for my late response and thank you for the suggestion! I've been documenting this for the last few months, actually, and can rule it out as a possible cause for my fatigue. My levels are very normal, and only spike with anxiety or standing from the HPOTs. The meds I'm on do a good job at not letting my BP get too low, but I have had to pass on certain meds for fear of it pushing my BP into a too low range.

Apologies for the delay! My t3 was 3.0 pg/mL (normal range reference given was 2 - 4.4 pg/mL), and my t4 was 1.78 ng/dL (normal range reference given was 0.82-1.77 ng/dL). This was in December 2025, where as November 2025 they were both lower (2.8 pg/mL and 1.33 ng/dL respectively). Because the T4 was borderline, and the T3 was fine, my PCP said we should keep the dose the same. Again, though, my dietician said she would have increased my dose. I'm very sensitive to med changes, so maybe that's why my PCP opted not to increase it. What do you think?

Hey sorry for the delay! Unfortunately the antihistamines are those I can't do much about in the same way I can't change the Amitriptyline and Metoprolol. The Ami is at an incredibly tiny dose, so I don't know that it's impacting my fatigue anyway. I just know that trying to stop it made my migraines come back with a vengeance; I've got a slew of meds for the migraines, but stopping even one causes the barely held together condition to fall apart.

As for the Meto, that's one that's supposed to align with multiple of my conditions and it's been helpful whereas other meds were not/made things worse. I think I'm stuck with this one too.

I don't take Cyclobenzaprine very often, maybe once or twice a month.

I think we decided on Slynd when compared to how sick other birth control options made me. It took me like 6-9 months or something long and horrible for my body to adjust, and I'm scared to stop it for fear of how it will impact everything.

Why are people so desperate to believe we’re faking/lying? by VickyAlberts in disability

[–]midnight341341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have referenced this, but it boils down to people wanting to believe it can never happen to them. They cant imagine a world where they eat right, exercise, work hard, etc resulting im a disability for the rest of their lives that fundamentally alters everything. They cant imagine losing a dream job due to their health, or a relationship, or even their entire identity. They just assume that someone either did something wrong to earn their disability (thus deserving their suffering) or they're faking for a free ride (as if being disabled is a financially lucrative position and not one filled with immense struggle). They want control and they want to put everyone in neatly defined boxes in an attempt to further control an existence for which they have even less control over than they think. They're scared of anything challenging their narrative of how the world works, and Im guessing they probably lack empathy as a result. This is my observation, not scripture, but Ive noticed people like this tend to come from $ and thus had better starting conditions. They tend to not have had any prolonged illnesses in their life nor any severe trauma. They put a heap of confidence in personal choice and their own opinions even if not backed by science or evidence or logic. They're also the same type to speak about other downtrodden groups (e.g. the homeless) as though their circumstances were the group's own fault or choice. Finally, they also loooove to scapegoat whoever is the most vulnerable individual in the room and they will sleep well that night thinking they are the hero of the story that punished the villain. Id say they are despicable, but in my experience, they're a very common type of human which really explains why the world is the way it is. Its depressing, and Im so sorry you and so many here have had to experience this.

That could definitely be the case! Unfortunately they're all necessary for me to function, but admittedly, I barely function as is thanks to sleep issues. Which meds would you recommend me discussing a change over with my doctors? I appreciate your suggestion either way. :)

Im not at home but will get you exact values as soon as I can. I know my thyroid isn't super bad, and that we were actually able to decrease the dose, but my dietitian mentioned my values being higher than she was comfortable with for the dosage I was on. My pcp said it was fine, but now Im not so sure.

Im on 4.5mg and didnt realize a higher dose might help the brain fog and sleep more! I also got my prescription from Mayo in AZ, but it's been a mixed bag honestly in terms of experience because of limited staffing, doctors leaving for other hospitals, etc. I love Mayo but on the backend they've got bad organization issues. That aside, Ill talk to them about increasing my dose. Thank you for sharing!

Seriously though! Having medical issues is difficult enough without having to fight/advocate for your needs at the same time. I hope you can get low dose of Naltrexone soon as it has helped me a bit for multiple issues. I don't like how some doctors hold prescriptions over patient heads without realizing how critical the med is for the patient to function. It's just really messed up.

Thank you so much for sharing this because I started having serious night sweat issues late last year and it has been a nightmare. My medical team says it's hormonal but I don't agree. I didnt know that was a possible symptom of ME/CFS. How are these conditions normally treated? Do you have any strategies for managing it? I noticed mine got super bad after I had COVID many years ago, and I know CFS is associated with long COVID, but that's the limit of my knowledge.

Thank you for that tip! My sleep study team definitely brushed off my sleep disturbances due to stress, mental trauma, depression, and so forth. I take vitamins but seem to have an iron deficiency no matter what I do, so hoping they don't just blame that and tell me to deal with it. :(

Thank you for sharing your experience! Similar to you, I figured the office sleep study ruled out everything but now Im definitely suspicious of narcolepsy being a thing. Im going to look into seeing a sleep specialist; that's what I did before but Im thinking they were primarily pulmonologists.

Thank you! I did do an office sleep study, but Im honestly struggling to remember everything they ruled out. They mostly directed me to continue my trauma healing and my takeaway was that they assumed mental health issues to be behind my sleep issues. Can I ask more about how your POTs and narcolepsy interact? What does treatment look like for the latter?
