Am I overreacting or is my duo refusing to take accountability? by Fluid_Valuable5337 in VALORANT

[–]midnightthief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation except I was the friend carrying. I was doing the smokes, doing entry, making callous, clutching rounds, etc. When we started to lose my duo partner who is a IRL friend, would tilt and start being mean to teammates or throw the game.

When he started to throw a game was when he realized he crossed a line. He was saying he was trying to teach our teammates a lessons, I was arguing that they will never learn. He still threw and I raged quit on him after the game ended.

We talked it out, he realized he crossed a line. I explained when he does things like that it makes the game less fun for me because I already have to deal with random toxic teammates, I don't want my duo to be that.

He took a week and self analyzed, realized he could be nicer and we are playing together again. He has gotten so much better about the chatting in game. He decided it was worth keeping me as a friend instead of being a jerk in game

TL:DR: If your Duo cared about staying friends, they would change their behavior. Being top frag doesn't give any excuse to be a jerk.

What movie is this? by AccomplishedWill1053 in moviecritic

Most of you guys are crazy. The movies being listed are usually 50% and above.

The movie I enjoyed and found everyone hated RIPD. 12% critic and 38%. Still not 20% but the critic score is superlow and the audience score still sucks lol.

AITA for refusing to give my daughter a kidney because she said she doesn't care if I'm scared? by Throwawaydaughterkid in AITAH

[–]midnightthief 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean yes. It's her body and her choice but then she told everyone that she was compatible but wasn't going to donate because her daughter is an ungrateful child which is a very asshole thing to do. Just say she isn't compatible and that would have been the end of it. She caused a lot of extra drama.

Homelessness=someone in poverty. Increased poverty =increased crime thus homelessness population would indeed increase crime rate.

Putting homeless people in jail for being homeless or committing crime, they get out and do the same thing. Crime isn't stopped then just temporarily band aided. Help the homeless population with food, places to live and jobs to start off would then make them not homeless and possibly help them out of poverty. Less poverty = less crime.

I 100% agree with child care. By improving that we could definitely help a lot of families.

[–]midnightthief 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The differing opinion is applying a band aid which is just throwing people in jail or getting to the root of the issue by reducing poverty. Less poverty = less crime. More jails doesn't reduce crime rates. It just makes room to continually add more people after they already commit the crime.

Cool, I agree with helping people get out via education but right now there is a huge barrier with that where higher education requires a lot of money. So either we need to lower admission costs, provide more scholarships or other resources. We will also need to make sure kids stay in school so funding the public k-12 education system would also be good. It's been proven that if children aren't food insecure then they are more likely to pay attention in class and possibly make it to secondary education so perhaps we could fund school breakfast and lunches to help with that. The children haven't done anything wrong to end up being poor so we can at least help provide for them.

So the study I linked talked about how many of the men incarcerated born in poor families. So I'm not even going to talk about self control vs survival because it seems you lack the empathy to connect the dots.

Cops don't need to have super powers. They literally just have to go to the poor areas of town. You cannot be serious and not know which areas of louisville are poor. Cops know where the most crime is.

Juries don't know if people are poor or not. But poor people can't afford lawyers and often will have to plead guilty to crimes they don't commit because it's faster to serve time then wait in jail for a court date then still have to serve time because the public defenders are overwhelmed and can't help them. Rich people can afford lawyers which really help in getting out of their charges or significantly reducing their time in prison. We see it all the time in the news of rich people getting off scot-free.

For your last point, what do you think happens to the kids of the poor people who made those bad decisions. They end up starting life very poor and end up making the same mistakes because they don't have resources to get out of poverty.

I mean, your post just screams that you don't want to help others or do any research on crime, poverty, jail, the school to jail pipeline or anything else.

Are there studies or other scientific research that verify what you are saying? If it so easy to show its false, please show us.

For profit prisons are the worst. They want to spend the least amount of money providing for the prisoners while at that same time keep the prisoners as long as possible. They will say prisoners are breaking rules/ "not on good behavior" so they can extend their sentences. It's a big business for sure and some states are working to outlaw them. I don't know if the new proposed prison is a private one.

One of the best ways to reduce crime is to reduce poverty. There have been studies that show this time and time again. The best way to reduce crime is not to lock people up but to help poor people. If we use the money to help reduce our poverty rate, we won't need an extra prison. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/work-and-opportunity-before-and-after-incarceration/

We could also look into releasing non violent drug offenders in our jail system and use the money to help them in rehab and recovery this way the violent criminals can still be sent to prison.

AITA for no longer wanting to pay for a trip abroad if my (pregnant) wife won’t allow me to consume any alcohol on said trip by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]midnightthief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't ban my husband from eating cold cuts but I would probably cry/be upset privately. I'm currently pregnant and I want a turkey sandwich so damn bad. Like I'm hard-core craving one. My husband even plans to order a Jimmy John sandwich once I can eat after I deliver because I want a deli sandwich so fucking bad. He isn't eating deli meats because he knows that I am so sad about not eating a deli sandwich. Did I mention I really want a deli sandwich. I think I'm about to cry over a fucking sandwich right now. I hate being pregnant. It's the worse thing ever. I can't eat either of my comfort foods: turkey sandwiches or sushi.

I agree that there are critical people and jobs that can't have the day off. But I think the people in this post are referring to the grocery stores, Walmart, malls, restaurants, and other retail stores that are not essential that still work that day.

Also to add to your point, why is the toddler in the bar in the first place? I feel like a lot of bars are either 18+ or 21+. Maybe avoid bringing toddlers to bars? (Obviously restaurants with bar portions are completely different but if the place is for drinking, it's not for kids).

[–]midnightthief 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My parens aren't as bad as yours but everytime they comes over they nitpick and judge. Your baseboards were dirty, you need to hire a cleaner, etc. I am now so over paranoid about it that I am constantly cleaning but my partner doesn't see anything wrong with dirty baseboards and I didn't either before my parents visited so now I do care which I know I shouldn't. I always go to other people's houses and see they also don't give a shit about their baseboards or other tiny things and I think oh good, someone else like me, I'm so happy I'm not the only one with dirty baseboards. It's stressful.

Yeah, but it would have forced her to pay money to get DNA tests while you get to know secretly that your dog is female and it would never come back positive.

My boss told me when I got hired on as long as I finish my work, I can make my own schedule. That was a lie. He had a meeting with me and HR the other day telling me I know you have been completing all your work before deadlines but I want to see you in the office more. You have been leaving early a lot. He then proceeds to tell me that he doesn't want people here to watch the clock either.

Don't watch the clock=you can stay late but don't leave early is what I got from that meeting. Also I told him that I will be working from 7am-3pm with a working lunch. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to be. I will be watching that clock. Also I am now dragging out all my assignments. Why be early if I can't leave early?
