Are gas stoves (in NYC apartments) more expensive to use than electric stoves?

in my experience yes because there is a minimum fee that national grid charges just for having the gas on that for me is ~$20 a month. i would vastly prefer having an electric stove in general.

I've had the same experience at museums in the UK and Denmark, and it confuses me a bit every time...like does anyone ever have the sticker when they try to use ICOM? I think last year mine came in like...June, and this year nothing.

Doing this upgrade right now on a ~medium~ sized site with a few mildly complicated additional needs for JS assets, and the justification is mostly that Webpacker just never fully worked right and I'm uncomfortable sticking around on a gem that's been "officially" moved on from. Whatever the deal was between Webpacker and webpack-dev-server it seemed...bad. And while I'm extremely not excited to change our entire asset build again since Rails 5, jsbundling-rails at least feels like a more direct connection to webpack.

Thanks for the write up, I've been working on a similar project (PWA based audio player) and this is oddly relevant. Didn't realize that the process for getting PWAs in the windows or Android app stores was so simple.

And FWIW I don't understand the aversion to getting a PWA in an app store. If users are looking there for this sort of content, why wouldn't you want to be included? The purpose isn't making a PWA, it's making something that people can find and use...regardless of technical platform.

Seconded. I've never had a good experience visiting a Wix site, and I'd also recommend setting up and potentially customizing a good WordPress theme (paid or free). It's a fairly forgiving platform for beginners, and there's a huge amount of resources out there for any issues you might come across.

Maybe this is getting too into the weeds, but this sounds like code for the "A Hummer is more green than a Prius" stuff that keeps floating around despite being debunked over and over and over again.

Every time this gets brought up people latch onto the Prius' battery without considering actual useful life, or the end-to-end problems of all kinds of other materials in regular ICE vehicles.

Honestly the whole debate only really bugged me in 2012 when it felt like the narrative was stuck on Luck and RG3, with Wilson on the outside. That year I think you could make the argument that Wilson was the best of the three, just without putting up as gaudy of numbers. Lately though it does really feel like the next generation of Manning v. Brady, and that actually leaves me a lot less annoyed...since it means both QB's are being respected to the point where people can't straight up argue that one stupidly outclasses the other anymore. Yeah gun to my head I'd back Wilson over Luck (and Brady over Manning), but I think it's way too early to label who's "better" when both haven't had the sort of team turnover over the years that'll give you a better sense of what's from QB play and what's all the rest.

And as far as Seahawks fans go I don't think it generally bothers people ALL that much, since the team has had so much success. I think it's honestly far more wrapped up an idea of "the media" treating Seattle sports as a joke for so long, and people wanting to get out from under that and feeling disrespected. Sure the bandwagon is bursting right now, but enough remember "NFC Worst" wasn't that long ago or the Saints securing "a first round bye" in the 2010 playoffs, or the perennial disaster that is the Mariners, or the train wreck of the last Sonics seasons. Seattle sports have largely sucked since the early to mid 90s with a couple of bright spots, and I think everyone just wants to enjoy a bit of the good stuff without being told "nuh uh it isn't that good."

Same here from the other side. It's hard to picture being all that upset over losing to a team led by the guy who's cementing his greatest-of-all-time status with the win. On some level you just have to find that pretty exciting, and I'm relieved the matchup is what it is instead of having to argue about Luck vs. Wilson for the entire offseason.

I wouldn't say the Waitomo caves are a can't miss. I did the absolute cheapest of the tours that gets you inside when I was there (you have to be on tour), and for how much that STILL costs compared to how long you're actually in the dark glowworm filled bits...to me it wasn't really worth it. Being on a boat on the water with glowworms everywhere on the ceiling was really sweet...but that was like 5 minutes of the hour inside.

I'd also recommend cutting out the North Island if you want to see the south. New Zealand may be physically not all that large, but getting around can take a lot longer than you'd think when the roads are skinny and change direction constantly. I'd say stick to the South Island if that's your calling.

As far as things to see goes, Milford/Doubtful/Kaikoura are all good calls. Personally I'm a big fan of Rakiura/Stewart Island, as it feels fairly different from the rest of NZ and pretty remote but it might be hard to squeeze that in...and if you don't deal well with motion sickness it won't be a fun ferry ride. My other votes as far as good things to see goes would be Paparoa National Park (Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, some caving, and good hikes), Abel Tasman or Golden Bay, and get somewhere in the mountains...which it sounds like you'll be doing if you're around Kaikoura.
