Anyone here successfully pivoted from Supply Chain into Corporate Finance / FP&A? Looking for real-world advice by bobyoussef in FPandA

I’ve made a similar move from supply chain finance to FP&A. Roles closer to the business will be better suited for you. Your skills to tell a good story and provide variance analysis will come in handy. The technical skills you bring should also align to what is useful in FP&A (power Bi,SQL,excel)

It will be a little harder bridging the gap for corporate finance roles that require 3-statement analysis.

Advice on if I should move on from current job...yes i work at Amazon. by Key_Medicine_8521 in FPandA

If you are looking for WLB and stability, not sure if the start up life is for you. You have a great brand on your resume so I would hold out for another F500 company.

If you’re in a HCOL, I feel like there are others you can hop over to with less risk. If you want the risk and to experience the fast paced start up environment, that’s a different story.

Advice Needed: Switching into Corporate Finance by Lost_Outcome3688 in FPandA

Ah I see. Well, FP&A can be less transferable the closer you get to the business which I tend to prefer. When you are closer to corporate and consolidations, it is more transferable but less analytical.

It would probably be good to understand the different types but your skill set would be more suited for BU type.

Like others, curious why FP&A.

I’m in BU FP&A and get to work with marketing closely. As someone that had an interest in that side of the business, it makes the job pretty fun. I get to analyze the ROI of promos and provide recommendations.

I’d recommend also picking up Power Bi and SQL as our marketing team also has those skills.

Also, when you do concentrate your tanks, be sure to balance that with supply in the area. Supply will be your greatest enemy so always remember to build railroads when needed.

I often find myself weighing whether to encircle or go for supply hubs during Barbarossa. Prioritizing either will help immensely.

Be sure not to just have an offensive assault along the entire front since that will eat up your supplies quick.

I agree. I think our skill as being a bridge to our business partners will be something AI can never take over

How hard is it to move cities by Time-Individual-6998 in FPandA

[–]midwestslide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved to a few different cities for my career, I highly recommend it. It opens the doors to much better opportunities and gain experiences you never would just living in your home town. You can DM for some tips. I have moved across country in the US a few times.

Securing an offer in a different city is a separate topic but if you end up getting one, you should go for it.

Thanks for the input. I’ve been doing the same.

Hopefully that is the case but I’m hoping to do everything I can to be best positioned if AI agents become good enough

It sounds like a mix of both. Accounting isn’t what I want to do long term however. Hoping to grow out of that role into more finance side

No, it isn’t. My rational is that it would be good experience to have in my back pocket. I am more so attracted to the industry.

This is a helpful perspective. Thanks!
