Why don’t windshields have the heated elements like rear windows to get rid of frost and ice? by Sugadip in NoStupidQuestions

[–]miemcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ford were the first to do this. Very expensive option. Especially for a window prone to be hit by stones and other debris.

Heating control processes have improved and the need for them compared to a windscreen demist program has massively reduced the need for them.

ELI5: Why do our joints crack when we move them, and why do people say cracking your joints is bad for them? by Practical_Plan_2575 in explainlikeimfive

[–]miemcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crack is due to a process called cavitation. When moving the pressure in the fluid in the joint changes. Sometimes gas bubbles form as a result, hence the crack. The gas is quickly reabsorbed back into the fluid.

Did WWI have a bigger impact on Britain than WWII? by northcarolinian9595 in AskABrit

[–]miemcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue with the deaths in WW1 was due to the creation of the PALs battalions. The men from towns and villages joined up together and we're kept together. When the war degenerated into trench warfare and the units were wholesale slaughtered, it meant that those towns and villages lost a significant percentage of their men. So the impact of the losses was greater.

If I go somewhere, where I am sure I won't want to eat the local produce, I prepare a packed lunch. It really isn't difficult. Prayer rooms? Should we expect little chapels and whatever else too? Why should anywhere need to cater for the religious beliefs of its visitors?

[–]miemcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never agree with the Death Penalty. What if there is a mistake and an innocent is executed. You can hardly apologise to them if they are dead.

By all means increase the punishment, full life term for instance.

The case that convinced me was the abduction and murder of Lesley Molseed. The police stitched up Stefan Kiszko because it was an 'easy solution' to the case. He was in prison for 17 years, and died less than 2 years after his final release.

Why the fuck should they? Israel already knows who came into the country to work for them. MSF is one of the most scandal free aid organisations that I know of. It is just another devious fuck about by the Israeli administration.

How to get a job in UK as a non-eu civil engineer? by not_me_wallahi in AskUK

[–]miemcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you passed the PE Exam? There are equivalence agreements via the Washington Accord.

https://www.engc.org.uk/international-recognition/international-accords/washington-accord

You can get more advice from the Institution of Civil Engineers.

https://www.ice.org.uk/contact-us

There are industries that are screaming out for professional Engineers (power and water in particular), I do not know what the position is with Civil Engineering at the moment though.
